  • Can you sponsor your boyfriend or girlfriend to Canada?
In order to be considered eligible to sponsor your non-Canadian boyfriend or girlfriend to Canada, you need to show that:
1️⃣ You are at least 18 years old.
2️⃣ You’re a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or a person registered under the Canadian Indian Act.
3️⃣ You can provide the basic needs of any persons you want to sponsor.
✅ If you have all of these 3 checked, the next step is to see if they fall under the common-law partner category or the conjugal partner category.
To sponsor your partner as a common-law partner, they must be:
1️⃣ At least 18 years old.
2️⃣ You have been living together for at least 1 year.
3️⃣ Prove your relationship is genuine.
What if my boyfriend or girlfriend does not qualify?
If your relationship does not qualify as common-law, you will not be able to bring them to Canada. However, here are some other options for them to come to Canada. They can:
1️⃣ Apply for a visitor visa
2️⃣ Apply for a work permit
3️⃣ Apply for a study permit

Okay but what if that person is a disabled person I'm disabled I have a service dog I rent a house and I live in Michigan and I am self-employed and I do get government assistance and that is a concern we have of whether or not is worth my boyfriend sponsoring me and he lives in Canada or me sponsoring him here in the US my family is all for it we do have somewhat of an age Gap but we love each other we want to get married we want to live together yes I live on my own and I run to my parents while being on disability as well as I am self-employed I don't make a lot through self-employed if you tried to work part-time you're going to be capped by the government which doesn't help disabled people at all. Our concern is whether it's worth him sponsoring me or me sponsoring him if we do decide to make everything official and I would get some government assistance if we stayed in my country us and that might be a problem if I were to move to Canada as a disabled woman I'm concerned because all the way I could run out this place because it would come into my name if I did get married the financial reality is a bit concerning because of who's in power in the government right now in the cost of living in Canada and the inflation. However in the US the inflation yes we have it but there are more understanding things to help out couples with a person who is disabled while the other person is not disabled if we choose to go that route and he becomes a citizen or gets dual citizenship from Canada to the US I'm trying to figure out which is worth it because I don't want to be a burden to my boyfriend if we move to Canada and yet I know how costly to live in Canada but it's more affordable here I already have a house that I rent while he lives with his mother because of financial burdens of the housing crisis it's kind of like what do we do it's going to be difficult because I am disabled and yes I do self employment and that's not like a part-time job or full-time job and it's hard to get a job anyways because I require a service animal but we're just concerned how can I will treat me in the process and whether it's where is Camp sponsoring me in the Canada or me sponsoring him in the US. If I sponsor him the US my family and his family are going to help us out however I see it more as a financial burden as me being disabled to try to do it in Canada and us moving to Canada I like your thoughts on that
