      Midnight Club: Los Angeles has map size and seventh generation graphics going for it over the Midnight Club games from the sixth console generation but I still prefer Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition REMIX since it has four different cities whose combined areas may still be larger than Midnight Club: Los Angeles's map (and I also like that the REMIX edition has a tuner-licensed Ferrari F355).

    • @SteveBrandon
      @SteveBrandon Před 3 lety +3

      @Shadow Knight It's highly-shrunken Los Angeles, though that's in keeping with the city maps in the other games. It has a lot of the real landmarks and the most important streets and intersections but the distances between them are compressed.

    The game didnt sell on low numbers because it was bad, literally no one noticed it came out because there was no ads or anything about it, not even in the rockstar web page. I do agree that bikes are quite broken, but i wouldnt say the cars grip is that bad.

    • @lordeilluminati
      @lordeilluminati Před 3 lety +18

      Yes. Unlike 3 which Rockstar was quite relentless on the marketing material to compete with Underground 2, LA came and went. It received two updates and done. Most Wanted was right around, but the standard was U2. Unless there are some people that worked on one franchise quitting to work on the competition like the movie Antz came around the same time as A Bugs Life with a similar premise, games take around a year at least to be finalised, so the idea was to compete for what it was released and not what it could have become.

      MC1 - Fun game with questionable driving physics but a great atmosphere and soundtrack none the less.
      MC2 - Best Midnight Club game just because of how good the driving, atmosphere, music and characters are.
      MC3:DE - Decent Game but lacked a lot of what made MC2 special so in my opinion it's not as good even though it has actual vehicle customization and licensed cars.
      MC3:DER - Better than the original MC3 just purely because it added Tokyo back into the game which is always a good thing as MC3:DE only had American cities which was a massive letdown compared to MC2.
      MC:LA - Not a very fun game in my opinion purely because of how atrocious the driving physics are compared to all the other MC games (yes even MC1). The story was okay for the most part but having it only set in LA was one of the biggest let downs for me. Yes the LA in this game is way bigger than the one in MC2 but still I find having only one city to drive in for the entire game to get pretty boring.
      MC:LACE - My feelings for this game are still the same as they were for the base game but the expansion which made the map slightly bigger was a welcome addition.
      MC:LAR - This game I actually found to be more enjoyable than the actual LA game. The driving physics in this game are way better and seeing the map of LA from MC2 updated was neat as well. Tokyo was also nice as well but it's already being used twice before this game so another new city instead of Tokyo would of being better in my opinion but overall it was still enjoyable. The story is more streamlined in this version as well but it was still pretty decent for the most part but the complete lack of cutscenes in this version was a letdown.

    Ive been replaying this over the last 2 weeks or so and man.. I completely agree. I have nothing but fond memories from back in 2009 when I played this. I absolutely loved it - considered it one of my absolute favorite racing games. Coming back to it has been something of an awakening. Man. This game has some truly good aspects but then so so so many bad too. I love the customization and the accuracy of the map. Having been to LA many many times - seeing it in this game is/was pretty awesome.
    But then there's the lack of a reset button absolutely killing races, the fucking rubberbanding ai making absolutely atrocious last minute comebacks. The obnoxious "rival" racers constantly talking. The annoying cops that don't really do anything but provide momentary inconvenience and waste your time.
    People like to give it credit for graphics - and they really aren't THAT bad, but there's something about the color/saturation or something that makes it absolutely impossible to see traffic at times. Not to mention the texture pop in.
    Its a good, but seriously flawed game. Definitely over rated too. Everyone seems to look back on it with rose tinted glasses. Myself included

    LA unfortunately had a very troubled development. What is there is good, but you can tell there's not that much content overall and it could use a lot of polish. It is my favourite in the series, but I can't say it is the best due to all of its flaws. Still, it set a bar for car customization that I expect every single street racing game to meet now. And I actually find LA's handling model the most enjoyable out of the whole series. It sticks a nice balance between drifty and grip focused driving where racing lines and throttle control matters, and yet you can still do absolutely impossible turns.

      @@Arexion5293 ...most games have that.
      I think the smartest car mod innovation was Blackbox's "Autosculpt" feature that was used in Carbon, Prostreet and Undercover. That to me was so cool, how you could use sliders to strech and warp selected parts of bumpers, spoilers, exhausts, entire body kits, rims or even the car's stock body to your preference. Don't like certain aspects of a particular aftermarket rim? Just autosculpt it! They even give you these template rims to play around with and make something completely unique. No preset rim sizes - completely dynamic.
      Even when you're editing stock body parts, difusers and splitters could be brought out from bumpers with the use of this feature.
      It was so much better than fitting the same generic race inspired bumpers to every car a la Underground. For example, in Undercover, the Mercedes CLS 63 AMG was featured. Since I didn't think none of the aftermarket kits were fitting to the car, I could adjust the car's stock body to accentuate certain curves or lines to my liking. Or for example, with the Aston Martin DB9, lower the corners of the rear bumper and drop down a diffuser in the center. Without applying an aftermarket one.
      A true shame this feature was lost due to Blackbox being no more. I would love for another game to feature this modification of minute details in a car, such as trim design and colour/material.

      @Arexion5293 Před 2 lety

      @@TheSultan1470 I don't remember interior customization in most games. But indeed, otherwise nowadays this is basically the standard. Sort of, like how in Heat there were many vehicles with ridiculously limited options like the 90's NSX and R32. Having four body kit options per part on every vehicle at minimum shouldn't be too much to ask for nowadays when so many after mark parts exist. Maybe the developers should look into Japan's direction more. TXR games often had better options, since the developers were closer to the Japanese scene.
      While the autosculpt was neat, Carbon and Prostreet had very limited bodykit options. Carbon only gave the same four singular body kits for all, but at least the widebodies were unique for all vehicles.. despite many of them just being packs of bodykits from the previous titles.

    I don't think it's overrated, but the fact that it can still be played on modern consoles means this is the only one most people will come back to who aren't into emulation. That being said, if R* ever decides to make more than one video game a century and revives Midnight Club, I hope they make it as fast as 3 was. MCLA is so boring for the first like 12 hours.
