I had my first hdzero flights yesterday, coming from analog and I have to say I regret not getting into it earlier...
Get yourself a Freestyle 1W. These things are beasts. I’ve been over 10km out with more or less perfect image.
I’m trying to get mines to work but I keep have lost signal on my gps with HDZero on any of my other uarts.
Excellent review and love how you picked up on the benefits of a locked in system. It offers a totally different and appreciated experience to a digital link that doesn't bring fourth the anxiety that comes with a digital link (freezing, stutters, dropped frames or pixelation with full signal but too much details to handle) . Flying both dji and hdzero, I absolutely love my hdzero system (and my dji)
HDzero will become the standard in the coming years, like analog was. Wait until the goggles come out and they introduce an affordable entry level goggle. It's like how people didn't pay much attention to ELRS at the beginning and now look at how popular it is.
You can use the bf OSD as usual via stick commands.
3 km not problem with 200mW and with 1w easy 10 km with 2 truerc patchs one foxeer v4 omni and 1 helical...thanks video friend...Andy

That's some of the cleanest HDZero footage I've ever seen. CZcams's compression really does make a mess of HDZero uploads unless you go 4K. Btw, you can access the BF OSD menu fine with any HDZero VTX (including the 200mW Whoop board). You're probably thinking of smart audio which isn't available, but even that can be configured via special stick commands via a custom HDZero VTX OSD menu.
I'd it can be accessed. What's the benefit of smart audio enabled vtx is what's confusing me?
@@AndyRCchannel indeed, SA on those other boards is probably more for racers so that BF can control the VTX directly to do things like low-power on disarm or configure the VTX CH/band/power via the control link (e.g. using radio knobs or LUA scripts). Most freestylers rarely need this so doing it directly via the HDZero OSD (i.e. bypassing BF) is sufficient.
Hdzero is the most under rated tech in fpv.
I love mine.
The ScoutHD have replaced both my dji and my hdo2's

Thank you for the fair review! This is great! Just to add, my V1 VRX did not like foxeer lollipops at all. I went from lollipops and the internal patches to long singularities and MX-Air single patches from TrueRC and my range hugely increased
its all I have for now, everything else out of stock but it still did well. looking forward to menace antennas :)

From what I've seen HDzero is overall the best out there. But I've also heard 1st en 2nd hand complaints about dropped frames and rebooting modules(mid flight), vtx dying mid flight. Some of them are going back to analog for the time being.
I sooo wish that Skyzone would surprise us all with a non-beta hd fpv system.
It's strange because out of all the HDZero kit I have (4 fully built quads) everything has been rock solid. Even when I accidentally bricked my VRX (totally my fault) I recovered it really easily.
Just for disclosures sake, I bricked my VRX by accidentally using a fatshark 18650 case that I knew was broken but absentmindedly forgot about. Jiggled it during the update and thus mangled the firmware. The unbricking procedure simply involves flicking a hidden switch (using a pair of tweezers through one of the vent holes on the back) and just running it again. Must activate some backup bootloader or something but it works bloody well!

That's CZcams unfortunately. I uploaded it in 4k. It says it's processed as 4k. Still shows 1080 for me :-(

I can't wait for the new goggles as soon as they come out I'm switching everything to HD0.
I have the system and three HD Zero drones. All three drones would drop video and cause crashes. I updated the VRX to the latest update and it appears to have fixed the issue.
Andy, you talk about money, are you familiar with PIP? if you are not already claiming it then do so, it not only provides extra money in itself but bumps up all other benefits, exempts you from council tax and you can also get a flat rate on your water from many company's, wessex water give me unlimited use for £14 a month and i hammer it ha ha.
They like to reject PIP claims a lot to put people off but then award on appeal, they didnt with me but i was expecting them too due to it being so common.
Im permanently signed off sick and on ESA, when i was awarded PIP it literally doubled my ESA in addition to the PIP, plus the other perks i mentioned, it made so much of a difference to my finances.

@@AndyRCchannel Your Rc hobby is one of the grounds you can use in claiming it, the funds allowing hobbys to benefit mental health is a legitimate thing and i put it as a major benefit being granted pip would have on my life.
Another legitimate reason is being able to afford your car were anxiety means you must have your own personal transport, i struggled to run my car before i got it but now dont worry about the drinking problem my V6 has and gladly encourage it with my right foot ha ha.
Do your research before claiming and put in a well thought out application and if you can keep it in your mind that you once done you will probably never speak to the people again, paint yourself in the the worst way you can, a little humiliation is worth it if it secures your application!

@@AndyRCchannel There are several different rates of PIP, i get the lowest which is currently £247.40 every 4 weeks but the huge increase in ESA and the other discounts and exemptions because of it make it worth way more than that. I went from struggling to eat to now being able to afford life plus hobbys plus im saving for when my car eventually needs replacing but i like my car so hope that wont be for a long time!

The hdo's are a very viable option. The hdmi board was a better quality.

yes you have betaflight osd with the regular stick commands. no need for smart audio to change pids etc. The aspect ratio in the vrx menu doesn't control the camera, it controla the image that is sent to the goggles so you can have a non squished image even on a 4:3 goggle.

what foam do you reccomend for hdo2 goggles? neoprene from banggood? or foam?
i assume that the hawk has a 4:3 camera and you should use it in 4:3. In 16:9 the resolution is lower.

How do you see HDZero for Freestyle and Cinematography use? Is this an option in comparison to DJI/WALKSNAIL or just stick with analog until some newer options?

actually I think if you upload the footage in 4k and watch in 4k its pretty close. then watch youtube on an oled TV and you have something similar.

I think you have to match antennas per "bank" which is Left or Right pairs of SMA's, not "top" and "sides"

I believe the apex ships with the nano V1 (not the original orange one, but the updated black one). Incidentally the V2 nano will be out very soon and it looks incredible

Andy , do you think this hd zero rx can plug into a tv for visually impaired fpv pilots to use without goggles ?
It plugs into anything that has HDMI thats how i recorded the menus
AlbertKim did a demo of this kind of setup using an FPV monitor (with HDMI in) a couple months ago. As AndyRc states, any monitor with HDMI in would work. Just need to jerry-rig a mount to hold receiver module, and point antennas to cover airspace in direction where flying.

You mean the hdzero boxes?

@@adbas6201 the hdzero Vrx will work with anything that has a HDMI input. Such as a big monitor. Those boxes can't be bought they were made specifically for the race event but the vrx can do exactly the same apart from comine hd streams with analogue

The betaflight menue comes up when you put your left stick to the left and your right to the top left, maybe i confuse the sticks, but the corners are the right ones.
Why are there vtx with smart audio and ones with not If the stick command for betaflight osd works anyway ?

The old vtx (original whoop board, race v1) were not able to do so. The community asked for it and we got it in the newer versions.
Allso works with elrs backpack (i never tried it)
I think if you wired the smart audio is just for have the vtx settings in the bf osd rather than normal vtx menu...
And also use the low power mode and all the options that you have when using bf with smart audio
Visionhmd goggles will bring down the cost significantly over the usual name brand FPV goggles.
A new low for youtube? Reported some obvious scammers, but youtube leaves their account up and only deletes their comments.
I mostly report them as "impersonators" and sometimes a second report for scamming. But when I report one that has a 1 year old account and youtube does not delete the account....it makes me wonder if youtube employees are part of this scam.
Yes I was very disappointed with their actions. Spent about an hour talking to one of their reps. This morning got a copy paste email of best practices. They have not deleted their accounts
The stick commands for vtx menu and vtx on/off work without sbus?
Why do some vtx state they have smart audio and some not if the stick command works with all of them? Is it for actual audio?
@AndyRC Actually I was trying to clarify because I don't understand how that would work without sbus. How many wires are connected to your vtx? And which pads? Just tx/rx? I'm going to get to the bottom of this sorcery!!

@@gmivisualsjason3729 Eachine is the de shell as the Skyzone O4X but with 1024x768 screen.
I think there were some colour issues with the ev300o. Don't recall whether it was fixed or not. I'll have a look around EDIT: nope should be fine (though not ideal due to the resolution and display type) but yeah it'll work just fine, you'll just miss out on the colour depth and resolution benefits a bit

Don,t use 90 deg connectors, they give horrible signal loss.
I'm aware that people say this and do tests etc however its also true having the patches so close to the VRX ruins the signal also which the original FS module has them sat inside the module. I flew the fatshark module and the hdzero module side by side and they performed the same?

Man, since DJI sent them a cease and dist order, I wouldn't touch this sytem with a ten foot pole. My speculation is that it's going to get abandoned quick for firmware updates and orphaned to the rubbish bin of history. I'm not even sure why ou would want it... it's just a firmware rip of the DJI system, only kludged to be.. worse? I hate the DJI goggles, but I can't see that these would offer anything better than perhaps different display screens and a smaller form factor. That's not worth going out way on a limb for and risking your investment IMHO.
I would be interested to see this "display box for streaming to CZcams". It's probalby the goggles without the goggles, what I've been asking for, but the same terrible 100ms latency. Get your hands on one and see if you can fly to the video feed to it. If it's stable, if it's not latent as phwwwk. You can fly cinematic to 100ms, but you can't do aerobatics to it.
I very well may djump all my DJI crp for this thing.
I watied for the next gen DJI to come out with HDMI and they failed me twice.
Throw away those goggles, slap this thing on the back of an DHMI TV.
You don't want all that crrp and weight hanging off your face.
Think my mind is made up! Never going dji and fatshark I may hold off on. Hdzero is way I'm going to be going for sure! Wait till the new goggles hit. But now I guess the rdq case got thrown out of court not to sure how much more money I'll drop into it till see what happens.
I think we will do what we always do. Ignore it and fly anyways. That's gonna be me
