I was already in my 30's when I was looking for new music on the internet when I ran into their free demo album 'Beneath the Boardwalk', only to be downloaded. I was blown away by this bunch of 18-year olds from Sheffield singing about 18-year olds'stuff and playing with 18-year old's energy. Energetic 18-year olds that is.
Only later I realized how maturely the songs were crafted, and what a mature live performers they immediately were, while having the maturity to not pose as something they were not. Nothing fake about them and the 20 somethings, 30 somethings and maybe even 40 somethings in the crowd probably appreciated that and wanted to be 18 again and start a band.

And the song is about prostitution!! They wrote it at and the whole of the 1st album ages 17-19. Alex turner and the drummer, Matt Helders (who is also a hip hop dj!) are the geniuses imo. My previous comment mentioned they headlined 2 outta 3 years, they've headlined again since, too. There were 70-100,000 people in that crowd-MEGA!! I saw them at Old trafford cricket ground 37,000 people sold out in 15 minutes for 2 nights in a row in 2005 just after the release of album #2. They had Amy Winehouse, the Coral and supergrass supporting. Supergrass were just behind Blur and Oasis in the 90s-try supergrass 'Alright', 'Mansize Rooster' ooh or deffo 'Caught by the fuzz'. And The Coral 'Dreamin of you' or 'In the morning', they came early 2000s and are from near Liverpool so are Beatles-esque.

The music video for "When the sun goes down" was filmed at park hill flats in Sheffield, just behind the train station. Arctic monkeys came from Parsons cross area that's a few miles away from the city centre. Words like "Mardy bum" is what a mother from Yorkshire would say to her sulking child. The closest "English" word to "Mardy" would be "Sulking", and "Owt" is "Anything" and "Summat" is "Something". Great reaction as usual. Full show reaction live at TRNSMT 2018 would be great, the most epic crowd

  • @briancohenthepfjmassive.4769

Nobody has mentioned that at a festival you get all different sorts of bands and stage's and not everyone will be there because of the Arctic monkeys. Yet nearly everybody knows that song.
My favourite is this house is a circus.

Headlining Glastonbury when they had never even played it before must have been nerve racking but still one of the greatest live performances of all time 🔥 Another one of their greatest live performances is TRNSMT 2018 which I was in attendance for. Funny you mention the Beatles because they actually played Madison Square Garden on the 50th anniversary of the Beatles first appearance on the Ed Sullivan show back in 2014.

Sooo many memories! I saw them just a few weeks after living in Ferrara (Italy). It was my very first concert: 1h 15 mins of jumping and singing along. Unforgettable! Saw them again 11 years after at Lollapalooza Chicago 2018, it was great to see how far they went

The scale of Glastonbury is HUGE about 8 miles around the whole venue. Around 200K attend a year. I think it’s largest and original outdoor green festival in the world. There’s nothing like being smashed and watching your favourite band or artist outdoor with thousands of people ❤️ usually at this time of the evening you’ve lost most or all of your mates you went with, no phone signal and you’ve befriended some drunk strangers in the crowd 😂🍻

More like early songs from The Jam than anything by The Beatles imo. Yeah, a mix of punk, mod, ska and funk. Alex has got a broad Sheffield accent, which is great but you may not understand totally. It's easier to understand if you're from the UK I think. The drummer is kickass!
