    Imagine being one of those "it's only a Mustang if it's a V8" guys who owns one of the Coyote V8's then meets one of these at a stop light. Would pay serious money to see that guy's loser face after that inevitable race.

    • @Sheepdog416
      @Sheepdog416 Před 9 lety +30

      +coinsagE46m3 Sure the ecoboost would win, but even MAP said that the car was a ticking time bomb running 500hp on the stock block. Serious money would have to go into the ecoboost to have it run reliably at 500hp.

    • @coinsagE46m3
      @coinsagE46m3 Před 9 lety +16

      Sheepdog416 That's true, sure, but even if the Ecoboost made even 400whp, which it could (and then some) reliably, it would still trounce the Coyote-powered Mustang by a respectable margin as it would have about 30 more whp and weigh less.

    • @Sheepdog416
      @Sheepdog416 Před 9 lety +18

      +coinsagE46m3 Also true, but I would rather have a stock car that is almost as fast rather than a heavily modded car that's a little bit quicker (imo).

    • @coinsagE46m3
      @coinsagE46m3 Před 9 lety +30

      +Sheepdog416 I would too. I personally would rather have the Coyote - powered Mustang than the EcoBoost any day of the week. I however have mad respect for the tunability of the EcoBoost and recognize just how fast they can get. And I think people that dismiss it simply because it doesn't have a V8, despite the power it can make, are fucking ridiculous.

    • @Sheepdog416
      @Sheepdog416 Před 9 lety +7

      Yeah fair enough! I have a 2015 GT and love the thing. Its definitely insane how much power you can push out of a stock 4cyl though jeez!

  • @JCTiggs1
    @JCTiggs1 Před 7 lety +62

    The Ecoboost Mustang certainly has its place in the market. Where I live there is a $10k price difference between a base Eco vs base GT. Then you need to factor in the added cost of insurance and gas which is also expensive here. My driving is 90% city under 60 km/h. I had a 2011 GT 5.0 and I really couldn't use it anywhere. For someone in my situation who loves the look of the 2015+ design, wants the awesome and refined suspension, and only needs enough power and torque for quick burst here and there, the Ecoboost is a great bang for the buck purchase. Add a Cobb flash tune and the torque easily exceeds the Coyote motor.

    • @carsgunsandguitars
      @carsgunsandguitars Před 2 lety +7

      This is why I chose my 2015 Ecoboost Premium performance package over a GT. The only thing I did was an Ford Racing CAI and MAP intercooler and a Cobb tune and I had a quiet street sleeper that consistently got over 30mpg on road trips for business and was as fast as GT on the street and I only paid $30k for it new. It was cheap to insure, and actually handled better than the GT due to the lighter weight over the front and squared tire size.

    This is just simply awesome. I would've never thought that Ford would release an Ecoboost Mustang but now that they did I've been really interested in getting my hands on one. To see that you've made that much of an improvement in power out of that little 2.3 while still using stock everything engine wise kind of seals the deal for me. My wife works for Ford and I get to enjoy a HUGE discount. Looks like a Stang is in my near future! First call is to MAPerformance.

Real car guys know the 4G63 is an awesome motor for racing/power/co$t and this 2.3T will open alot of eyes up to the setup. half as much rotating parts less friction/cheaper builds and spend the money on boost - less fueling at part throttle and more room underhood. I’m doing the same things right now, getting a big power build set up , for 600whp-900whp , which is different then the set up for under 700whp. Big power set up uses different block and head, lower power set up also uses different block but retains the factory head which is limited to 700whp and even at those lower level your expecting head lift and air flow problems. That why anything above 650-700whp they use the 4 port ecoboost head , and the lower power is the factory head 2.3 TS head. So really depends what your goals are. Stock ecoboost mustang engine can make 400whp reliable. And only need a nx2 turbo and intercooler to be at 400whp. Above that you need to go into building and bigger turbos

I would of thought that since Focus ST Stock motor can hit 500WHP, the 2.3L could get at least 600WHP. Cool to see that these motors can equally put down about the same amount of power. Very excited to see what you guys are doing with this platform. Just ordered your intercooler kit today and cant wait to get that on along with my methanol setup. Going to try a percentage of e85 as well and a smaller pre turbo meth nozzle (in addition to the one at the tb) and see how much power I can squeeze out of the stock turbo. Once its dust, your turbo kit is next on my list ;)

    About to get a track pack performance pack 2018 ecoboost and I'm super excited. I used to own an ND miata but someone ran a red light and totalled it. Wanted to get another fun car and my roommate recently got an s550 ecoboost and let me drive it a bit. It's such a good platform and actually handles incredibly well (honestly imo even better than my miata). How hard would you say it is to tune this car and what would you recommend for a first time owner?

    @Bluelightning23 Před 8 lety +4

    ford, or any ofher manufacture, makes a lower cost and more fuel efficient model for people who may not want the biggest and badest version, and uses parts sufficient enough to serve its purpose. They aren't going to spend more money over engineering the car or it'll cost as much as the one with the bigger engine. Thats why I bought my 2011 v6 fully loaded. It was that or a GT with no options. Its not always about wanting the car with the most power.

    • @daltonwilliams777
      @daltonwilliams777 Před 6 lety

      once a motor has been tested and desinged the cost isnt as expensive as you imagine. yes the birth stage of the motor does cost due to tests and what not but when they redisign like they do every new model it makes since to make a motor more capable of power handling. after its desinged and made the motor goes through a rushed line that creates 100s of motors a day, the cost is minimal to the company. example is bmw. they produces on one line at spartanburg about 900 cars a day. there is two per plant and there is many plants. it goes through a cnc and is made off one program. ford just bumped up the power of the new 2018 ecoboost with simply a new cam and crank added. if they sleeved or designed better piston or stronger block it could easliy make better power with tunning. but stock make a strong and fuel efficent motor

    At the boost pressure they're running, (29 psi if I remember correctly) they're only making 500??? Call me crazy, but aren't there a lot of 2ish liter turbo 4 cylinders making more power at lower boost? Seems a letdown honestly

    • @goodmorning8172
      @goodmorning8172 Před 3 lety

      Those people are using bigger turbos. A bigger turbo can make more power at a lower boost level, but they take longer to spool.
