It really makes my heart happy to see SD40-2's still rocking on the main. That prime mover has an amazing sound to it but have you ever heard one of them crank over? Now that is a sound that one can never forget.
EMD SD40-2 prime mover is one of the best locomotives ever made my Electro-Motive Division/ General Motors. Look at that truck roll down the railroad tracks opposite direction, looks small compared to the train.
SD40s and GP38’s are THE BEST sounding locomotives ever to run the rails! They are what made me a railfan back in the late 1970’s. Amazing times railfanning till about 1999. Once those quiet boring wide cabs came out railfanning fun was over! I haven’t railfanned in 20 years. It’s just a bore to me. I miss the power I saw and heard growing up. Even the variety of colorful box cars 40 years ago made things amazing. It’s such a shame how everything sucks today!
The most Beautiful american Locomotive!!! And even more with the NS colour scheme!!! Beautiful ladies in black!!! 😍😍😍 Super Excellent video Sr!!! 👏👍👏📹👏👍👏
I love the great Norfolk Southern trains. Keep posting them. I live in Bound Brook,NJ and I watch them here and in South Plainfield NJ. They're my favorite trains. Two thumbs way up..
3:29 , imho, is the best out of all these very well done clips. Doesn't get any better than a ex-Conrail and a high hood. Think I've got my new mainline lashup in HO scale. Second best is the CP/ex-BN/CP SD40-2 triple unit lashup.
Beautiful scenery, great power plants "haulin' the mail" wide open with the accompanying sounds to warm the heart, and as usual, all expertly captured and edited by IMO, the best rail videographer on You Tube!
Nice set of Ex Conrail Blue SD40-2 and NS SD40-2 High-Hood. What type of locomotive is it at 7:50? That dark red or maroon colored weard shaped NS locomotive.
About half of Conrail’s roster went to NS at the 1999 breakup. Many have since been retired in the past 20 years but there are probably still several hundred at least. NSDash9.com has a comprehensive roster.
@@tommyhunter1817I think you’ve now turned into a 70s railroad guy. The kind of guy that likes the normal cabs instead of the wide cabs. Even thought both types have the same purpose/role and similar looks.
Here on the Pulaski District in Southwest Virginia (where I live) I only see them on work trains and locals, but even that is becoming more rare. Only once thus far, but I saw a SD70ace running long hood forward on the local a couple years ago. Odd catch and too bad I wasn't able to get a photo or video.

Yes I love those SD40-2 locomotives as well
I love the SD40-2s. 2nd favorite and my first is the EMD AEM-7, 3rd is the Siemens SC-44
The music from these locomotives sounds better then 95% of new music released today.
Very well done! Nothing like that magical EMD sound!
Yes, I missed the sound of the growling 645 prime movers when the locomotives is going at Run 8 going uphill.
Highly agreed!
They sound soooo nice under load. Thanks for posting !
Those old girls are still hustling freight and making money!! What a great video production. Awesome footage.
That last clip was amazing
Love the sound of these superstar engines working hard. That wonderful horn. They look great. What a nice job! Thank you!
Love the SD40-2'S. I have them in N scale and HO🤙🤙🤙

I like how RS3L's have that kind of *gulp* sound at the end...every one is different.
Great video!
The first clip is actually an ex-N&W unit with an RS5T
Love these EMDs & those tanker trains
You definitely hit a home run with this video on these locomotive!
The RS5T on that first unit ... slice of heaven...

Did I see a conrail sd 40 ??? Glad to see they are still around
Back in 2010, I think they are all gone now, even the SD40-2 high hoods 😕
OKS !!! Nice catches !!! Thanks for sharing & looking for more & As always KEEP IT SAFE !!!
Gotta love those Rs5t horns on them!
How can you not love that?

Great video!
the shot at 9:20 was the best
What a great video. Some awesome horn action and a neat little surprise at 7:45.
All EMD! ALL NOTCH 8! One of the best Railfan videos I’ve ever seen💯🙏🏿
Nice presentation.👍👍
That first RS3L was something incredible, perfectly tuned.
SD40 are my favorite locomotives.
Sd70 have bathroom in nose
I salute you sir! Well done. Not a moment of click-bait or filler. Can't wait for part 2!
Ahh yes, a beautiful loco!
Excellent video.!
Wow love the sound 645 engines in run 8. You even got 5910 my favorite SD40-2 and my u tube handles.
Sound is beautiful nice
Absolutely love this! Great upload :)
As always, a combination of great videography and great locomotives that makes for a great video!
Nice Catch
Sweet video bud, again! The crossing in Richland, PA has got to be my favorite. So much great action there and also notch 8!
This is an astonishing collection of rail action and with great scenic photography! An awesome mix there! Superb job all the way around!
Love the videos. You shoot videos in some of the same spots that I sit at to watch for trains. Good video quality and shots. Enjoy them all.
4:38 - something about CP SD40's, you can really hear those turbos... could listen to a lashup of those pass by for days.
“… and, they have some Soot, too - they’re sho’nuff trains, all right.”
Nice set of Ex Conrail Blue SD40-2 and NS SD40-2 High-Hood. What type of locomotive is it at 7:50? That dark red or maroon colored weard shaped NS locomotive.
Very nice !!!
great catch as usual ,greetings from suffolk uk big ns fan, take care, very enjoyable!!
I wish they used these more.
Well done!
We need more standard cabs…
Old school emd power bad ass
NS 3201 sd40-2 is Southern's first high hood of that model the last being 3328 now they have chopped noses (facelift) Southern Pacific fan here👌
Nice vid
Incredible shots of awesome scenery and great use of the natural light to highlight the action and surrounding scenery.
Great! Greeting from Germany
SD40's seem to travel in a pack, where there is one, there is another close by, NS SD40's are no exception.
Super Video 🇮🇳
Great video and love that sound! Are there still many SD40-2 locos being used on the main?
on 2:45 -1-ns 3423 sd40-2.-2- ns 3053- -3-ns 3373 sd40-2
Show👏👏👏
Love the ex-Oakway at 5:52.
Wnat in the world is that second loco at 7:49??? Never seen one like that before.
Is that Conrail unit still on the roster?
Did you bass boost these clips? It sounds like the bass is heavier. Also the 4:00 time stamp may be incorrect
What camera did you use back in 2009? Fantastic quality!
Lucky you, gets to smell the NJ -> OH trash train, #63V !
Is that white box on a roof and air conditioning unit?
acts2211 Yes Air conditioning unit
Wish we could have one of these over in the uk,no American diesal engines in the uk,shame
How many Conrail heritage units does NS have?
About half of Conrail’s roster went to NS at the 1999 breakup. Many have since been retired in the past 20 years but there are probably still several hundred at least. NSDash9.com has a comprehensive roster.
Con Rail ! Yes .
Are the grey Conrail cars, stone cars?
Norfolk Southern at 9:36 out in the middle of no where .
40-2's are how locomotives SHOULD look.
Bruh. All locomotives from EMD and GE (both normal and wide cab) have similar looks and that’s how they are.
@@smackingjack425awesome3 uh, nope.

Don’t know much about trains, so is this rare?
Yeah it is pretty rare that these locomotives are still running they were built I believe in the very early 70s
Here on the Pulaski District in Southwest Virginia (where I live) I only see them on work trains and locals, but even that is becoming more rare. @11:41 needs a helper? Seriously!??
DNR5586 that’s a local, it has engines on both sides so it can access spur tracks that go in different directions.
Makes sense, I just thought it looked funny.
