Whoooooooww an Avocondo inside an Avocondo!!! Or a safe room inside an Avocondo😂🤣😂I've never seen a wormball in an Avocado pit either!! Avocuddle😍I love it! Great comparison to the animals in Yellowstone! Yay is boo, but both are muddy thumbs😀So many great tips in this video...would be a great one to bookmark for new worm farmers!!🪱🪱🪱
I remember how freaked out I was with every new development when I was new. I hope new worm farmers can feel less upset and enjoy the hobby. 🪱👍🏼😁
@@PlantObsessed Absolutely!!
I’ve only been vermicomposting for a year, and I used to panic when I saw the mites and pot worms. I watched your videos and maybe one other channel, and you welcomed us ‘newbies’, and helped me to learn and understand my bin. I started with 500 red wigglers, now I have two bins in the black Lowe’s cement trays, probably over 2000 worms (if I had to guess-maybe more??) and I have a small bin for a cocoon nursery. I love sifting through the bin and seeing what’s going on. I understand a lot more now thanks to your channel. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🪱
It makes me happy to hear that your worms bins are good and are no longer stressed out by the worm bin ecosystem. Thank you for the kind words.👍🏼🪱😁
Worm on the cob!! 😂😂
Yes, love it🎉👍🏼😃🪱
Hi Ann, I'm always impressed with your worms 🪱 Maybe not worm balls, but definitely worms pools!
Worm cuddles ❤😅❤
Thanks for sharing
❤Peggy❤
Isn't the worm cuddle the sweetest thing? Worm people are the best. 😁👍🏼🪱
@PlantObsessed yes, I must agree,
WE are the best...and a little "cracked!"🤣
Great video as always Ann! I love to listen to your worm knowledge, it has been very helpful and motivating! Til next time, many blessings!
Thank you for the kind words 😃👍🏼🪱
I love how sound your advice is about critters and moisture. It helps counter some of the really misinformed stuff still circulating. If I read someone else saying to put bread and milk in the worm bin then take it out and throw it away to 'remove' critters, my eyes might stay permanently rolled forever lol.
Yes, people are thinking they live in a semi sterile environment but they don't think about the critters in your stomach and skin that keeps us healthy and alive. 👍🏼🪱😁
@@PlantObsessed Absolutely! I'm speaking as someone who has to take antibiotics every day but is frantically chugging yoghurt to try to re-introduce some microbes and stave off antibiotic-caused diarrhoea. We need to start appreciating all the micro and mini friends!
@@franklittle if you can tolerate it also try kimchi. Lots of the good ones in there you can't get in yogurt 👍🏼
@@PlantObsessed Thanks, and yes I'm also eating lots of unpasteurised kimchi and fortunately I love it 😋
Yes Ann, Autumn leaves are great to add with the cardboard. The mites and worms seem to love them and they are so full of minerals.
I grab as many as I can locally and as we live in a highly treed asuburb it's so easy.
I used to worry about my worms being small but I guess it's because I don't feed them worm chow. They still do a great job. Cheers!
I have a plan to gather more leaves this year. Fingers crossed 🪱👍🏼😁
My worms are small too, but I think it's because they're at maximum population so they know there's no room to grow bigger, and they don't need to mature as quickly either. I don't make worm chow, but they're very well fed with other things, so I think it's the space rather than the food. I agree that leaves are excellent food/bedding. I think of cardboard as artificial leaves for when they can't have the real thing 😁.
Hiya Ann always love to see the worm ball. Great working bins as always. Good worms.
Thank you. Seeing them all snuggled together is always cool.😃👍🏼🪱
@04:31 you mentioned how you'd be linking to another video above - but nothing ever pops up on screen. Always nice seeing how generous you are when applying bedding 👍🏻
You are watching on the computer? I have noticed that even end screens are not 100% I will go back in and see what happened. Thank you for the heads up.👍🏼😃🪱
Yes - I watch on a computer :)
Some nice looking worms very healthy 🇳🇿🪱
Thank you 🪱👍🏼😃
To me corn cobs are cocoon condos.
Nice one🪱😃👍🏼
I have a 3-month-old red wiggler bin. I just started a 10-gallon ENC bin with around 150 of the ENCs. I've seen time lapse video using an ENC transparent bin and have seen how they burrow to the top to eat. I use the wedge method with the red wigglers and fluff the bin each week when I feed them. With the night crawlers digging burrows and how I've read they don't' like to be disturbed, I'm planning on not fluffing their bin and just feeding them on the top. I have screened drain holes on the bottom. What do you think?
If the bin is not more than 4 -6 inches deep it is ok not to fluff. If the bin is deeper you might have issues getting oxygen to the whole bin.👍🏼🪱🙂
I call my worms vermites 😂🤣😅
Nice👍🏼🪱😃
have you had experience with maggots? the food i give my worms is sometimes contamined with them and i worry they will overtake if i'm not careful
Real maggots? Yes when I did the meat experiment. Yes you are correct the flies that hatch will take over. If they are tiny white worms they might be pot worms. They don't hatch into anything and are good for the bin. 🪱👍🏼🙂
Have a problems with bsf flies larve in my worm bin, whtever i give to worms are eaten by bsf fly larvae, how to control them and eliminate them
I don't have that problem but I would recommend covering the bin with a screen to keep the flies out. If they can't lay their eggs in there there should not be any larvae. I know picking out the ones you have is an impossible task.🪱🙂👍🏼
@@PlantObsessed ok surely do tht, thanks for the tips 👍
I have an ant problem with bins at the extension center. We have a demonstration garden and the bin is housed under a tree for cooler temps. Any suggestions for combatting ants?
If it is on legs I have heard that petroleum jelly will keep ants off. Maybe someone else can help answer your questions later. 😃👍🏼🪱
I will try the petroleum jelly. 😊
@@PlantObsessed I bought petroleum jelly and will let you know how this turn out. I believe this will help. Many thanks.
@@nanasofia If you're able to mix a bit of cinnamon oil and/or peppermint oil into the petroleum jelly, that will disrupt their pheromone navigation and act as extra deterrent. That's what I do to deter my garden ants from farming aphids on my plants. I've also heard that ants tend to prefer an over-dry worm bin, so adding extra moisture might help if it's not already very moist.
Many thanks. I will give this a try.
