- A large crowd follows the procession honouring local hero Sergeant Cyril Edward Gourley V.C. The route beginning at Hoylake Town Hall, past the Hoylake Sailing Club on the promenade, by the Royal Liverpool Golf Club, the Children’s Convalescent home ending at the Public Hall, West Kirby. In West Kirby .Sergeant Gourley stands with local dignitaries. Sergeant Gourley was awarded Victoria Cross by HM King Georg V at Buckingham Palace 16th March 1918. The award was for conspicuous bravery when in command of a team of howitzers during the Battle of Cambrai in 1917.Cyril died in 1982 and is buried at Grange Cemetery ,West Kirby.(1918) Colorized 2021

Perhaps whoever did the titles wasn't from the area
