At the best moment to step aside (over a year ago), they realized he had a better shot than she did. He also knew, if he said he wasn't going to run for re-election, he could not then pass the legislation he needed to win his allies another term. Now if he steps down, his successor will face huge hurdles. They won't be tested or legitimized by state primaries. They'd have months instead of years to campaign. They'd probably have to be willing to run on his platform and largely with his coalition instead of fully forging their own. It's a real bind. So he's trying to salvage it. But he should see from the public's response in the coming days if passing the baton is the best he can do. If his debate performance looks like a fatal mistake for his campaign, I hope he steps aside for a younger successor, ASAP.

I am not black, but saying that imigrants are going to take black jobs is from my perspective is a put down. I remember as a young woman job hunting, I was often told why do I want to go out to work and take a job from a man that needs to support his family. That's a really doubtful proposition. Newsome might look like a plausible alternative until you start peeling back the onion. One, Newsom has never held or run for any sort of office outside the State of California. A state where the Democrats have a supermajority and thus free reign over all aspects of policy, some of which have been okay and some of which have been pretty disastrous. Two, California doesn't look, from a demographic point of view, remotely like the rest of the USA. So, policies which might have traction there because of the composition of the electorate, are non-starters in a lot of other places. Three, you really need to examine Newsom's likeability factor amongst Independents, moderate Republicans, and working class persons before positing him as a plausible candidate. I would submit that as a guy coming from a privileged background, with his slicked back hair and $5000 suits, there's a wide disconnect between Newsom and these voting blocs. Lastly, Newsom is the governor of a state that gets constantly panned by national media for its intrusive policies, constant drain of people and industries, massive taxing of the populace, and ingrained red tape in government. Those are just the facts on the ground and make him, to me, unelectable. If the Democrats want to win, they need to replace Biden with someone like Biden, a moderate Democrat, if there's one remaining. Going the progressive route with someone like Newsome will end in a disaster ala George McGovern in 1972.

I tuned in last night to see a coherent old man show some fight. After the first answer by Biden I turned off and went to bed. He should have been pulled from the debate. @@FTFLCY I think he wants to continue, but he also railroaded himself. He picked a historic VP. Her popularity declined before his did. At the best moment to step aside (over a year ago), they realized he had a better shot than she did.
He also knew, if he said he wasn't going to run for re-election, he could not then pass the legislation he needed to win his allies another term. Now if he steps down, his successor will face huge hurdles. They won't be tested or legitimized by state primaries. They'd have months instead of years to campaign. They'd probably have to be willing to run on his platform and largely with his coalition instead of fully forging their own.
It's a real bind. So he's trying to salvage it. But he should see from the public's response in the coming days if passing the baton is the best he can do. If his debate performance looks like a fatal mistake for his campaign, I hope he steps aside for a younger successor, ASAP.

I am not black, but saying that imigrants are going to take black jobs is from my perspective is a put down. I remember as a young woman job hunting, I was often told why do I want to go out to work and take a job from a man that needs to support his family. As a woman if there was a management job, I would have to help train a man less qualified than me because they did not want to promote a woman into a management position. From my own personal experiences, I felt like Trumps remarks were a throwback to that kind of attitude.

In order to persuade the speaker's ethos...his or her traits..determine whether the audience will accept the arguments of the speaker. Joe simply looked and sounded feeble and confused. People like Clyburn have a lot to answer for. He went with Biden over Bernie... and now he is hanging in there with Biden, presumably, to the end. Biden is done. We all saw it, see it. Swing state voter here. I voted for Biden, will not do it again. I have never nor would ever vote for Trump. Disasters lie ahead no matter who wins. First time I'm not voting in 40 years, unless one of the parties replace their nominee.

I work with people who have schizophrenia. There is one really nice guy who speaks in tangents and I always try to follow his train of thought. I saw that look on Biden’s face throughout the debate. Sad. They over-prepared him to deal with a “normal” person.

Gavin Newsom will definately wipe the floor with Trump
That's a really doubtful proposition. Newsome might look like a plausible alternative until you start peeling back the onion.
One, Newsom has never held or run for any sort of office outside the State of California. A state where the Democrats have a supermajority and thus free reign over all aspects of policy, some of which have been okay and some of which have been pretty disastrous.
Two, California doesn't look, from a demographic point of view, remotely like the rest of the USA. So, policies which might have traction there because of the composition of the electorate, are non-starters in a lot of other places.
Three, you really need to examine Newsom's likeability factor amongst Independents, moderate Republicans, and working class persons before positing him as a plausible candidate. I would submit that as a guy coming from a privileged background, with his slicked back hair and $5000 suits, there's a wide disconnect between Newsom and these voting blocs.
Lastly, Newsom is the governor of a state that gets constantly panned by national media for its intrusive policies, constant drain of people and industries, massive taxing of the populace, and ingrained red tape in government.
Those are just the facts on the ground and make him, to me, unelectable. If the Democrats want to win, they need to replace Biden with someone like Biden, a moderate Democrat, if there's one remaining. Going the progressive route with someone like Newsome will end in a disaster ala George McGovern in 1972.
