I have been in Singapore for more than 10 years and I have never shopped at the wet market before but after watching your video Iâm so inspired to try! Thanks for capturing your adventure, now I kind of know what to expect inside and wow things are really affordable there.
haha poor Nor, macik so embarrassed to mistake you for being filipino.. but she was so cute and helpful with giving you those tips. and your food looks delicious! And loving your videos as usual Georgia!
Daunting even for a Singaporean. Some wet markets like the one at Empress Road has stall owners who speak English and can suggest recipes for the meats you buy from them! And then you head to the other stalls to pick up the rest of the ingredients.
what's nice about wet markets, is that there is a level of initiation to it. sometimes mothers will introduce their kids to the grocers, and vice versa (the grocer's kids to customers). it ensures the next generation of doing business but also gives it a human touch. many end up being friends over the years. when my grandma passed, the grocers and mongers attended her funeral.
Lived in Singapore 1991-1995 on West Coast Drive, Jurong East and Clementi is where we always shopped (NTUC Fairprice) l cannot believe you have lived in Singapore so long and you never shop at Wet market!! It's the only place we shopped for fresh ingredients as Cold storage was way over priced and lm Australian, certainly wasn't sensory overload for me and my Family.
oooooooo the food looks so good! How about another wet market trip next time but Georgia (and perhaps try some bargaining too :D) will do the cooking for Nor hahaha!
Omg... you just went to the famous Jurong west market. That market is always crowded, thatâs why you are overly stimulated and overwhelmed. You should try going to this market on eve of Chinese New Year like 6-7am!
Norâs kitchen is super pretty đ And itâs so cool you get to visit the wet market! Ps Georgia, idm if Nor appears on your channel once in a while đ
Such refreshing content!! Have to say it's really funny how I discovered your channel when I was living in the UK a couple years back - kinda felt like we traded places. It brought me so much joy and I felt a little closer to home. I still enjoy it all the same now. Thanks, Georgia!!
Hi Georgia thanks for sharing all this goodie info! We are new expat family from Australia (have been here in sg about a month now) getting lots of useful survival tips from your channel thanks heaps xo
Hello Georgia! Welcome to the west! The food at the hawker in front of the wet market is good too esp the chicken porridge and pancakes :) And more than 20 yrs ago, I bought my first 2 rabbits at the fish shop there :)
The provision store you walked past, Chop Chip Seng, is one of the places I go for things like toiletries, drinks and snacks, their prices are much lower than NTUC's. For example 100 Plus is something like 1.40 for a 1.25L bottle compared to NTUC's $2+ (for a 1.5L though). Might want to take a look in there next time if you are looking for snacks.
I used mint, spring onions, celery leaves, ginger and chili for this recipe! You can also add other herbs like rosemary, cilantro or any herbs that available! All the best trying!
wow, Nor's cooking looks really delicious! I love sambal as well, we order a homemade one from one of my friends :) thanks for taking us along your wet market trip!
I love and miss the feel of hawker markets so much! I never used to visit fairprice or cold storage eventhough they were so close to my house! Thanks Georgia I love your perspective of Singapore.. it's very similar to mine!
Nor has such a nice kitchen - even got oven! I'm always worried about being scammed at the wet market not that anyone actually wants to scam me i just get nervous i'll look stupid :P
A very appropriate vlog for this Covid-19 season in activities that anyone could indulge in to avoid the boredom -> cooking. A pair of Wellington Boots would be useful while sojourning the wet-markets to avoid getting 'fishy' shoes. There're some very good cooking recipe books that you could get from Popular Book shops. Words are an expression of the inner self and cooking is the expression of artistic culinary passion for sustaining life. Good food satisfies your inner self.
We used to have live chickens sold in the wet market, they are all locked in cages, they will kill ,remove the feathers for you after purchasing... but itâs later banned by the government due to bird flu.
Thank you for creating such an informative content for those who plans to move SIN, just an addition maybe it would be great if you inform the detail about price of each, just for us to know. Thank u đ
Only we in North don't joke. Dislike Southerners. Ha! I rent out holiday places to UK people in Europe. Definitely ration, (down to none!,) renting to Londoners. So rude!!!!!
Just a disclaimer in case any overseas viewer sees this... those terrapins (that look like turtles) are being sold as pets.... there are not sold as food...
Nor needs his own You Tube Channel, so great. Food looked delicious

Yes, some stall owners will recognize me when I go to the market/hawker as I used to follow my mom and or dad.

Georgia finally realises how cheap Singapore can be! Hahaha! Will you shopping at the wet market in future?
Omg... you just went to the famous Jurong west market. That market is always crowded, thatâs why you are overly stimulated and overwhelmed. You should try going to this market on eve of Chinese New Year like 6-7am!

This is the real side of Singapore.
Ooo that fish dish is similar to what we call âpepes ikanâ here in Indonesia.. ikan = fish đ€€
Wow the food just makes me droooolllll đ€€đ€€đ€€ I wish I could try those dishes!
When you cook a sumptuous meal and your friends see the amount of food, natural instincts of those friends would say - bojio đ€Ł
What aromatics did Nor use for the fish? Lemon, scallions, ginger, red chillies, mint? Was there anything additional?
it wasn't mint but cilantro, possibly parsley. and wrapped in banana leaves, gives it a sweetness in both taste and aroma.
I used mint, spring onions, celery leaves, ginger and chili for this recipe! You can also add other herbs like rosemary, cilantro or any herbs that available! All the best trying!
Nice vlog! Wholesome content
Where are the farms in Singapore ?

It can get quite overwhelming for the first time in the wet market. Totally different from the ones in Europe and US.
certainly is!
What temperature oven to roast the fish?? And what is the white cream on the soup? Do you mind to tell me?
coconut milk
@@lyhthegreat thanks
@@cheryllim3272 I roasted it at 150 degrees for 45 mins to an hour but depends how hot is your oven! The white cream is coconut milk!

East vs West.... everyone just forgets us Northerners..... grrrrrr....
No issue, the North remembers :p
So far to travel. Iâm at northeast haha
U can find cheap n expensive food here, depending on the place they get it.
Damn, that fish with sambal is the perfect pairing. TBH, everything looks scrumptious.
