The Gloriavale Christian Community is a small and isolated Christian community located at Haupiri on the West Coast of the South Island in New Zealand, and it has an estimated population of over 500. It has operated on a property owned by a registered charity since 2008.

I knew the Gloriavale founder Hopeful Christian personally. Did drive with him a couple of times to Christchurch. He was a harsh man and always right in his own eyes. He did drive often like a mad man, going 140 kms per hour in 80 km zone, and I thought we are going to crash. He did swear if things did not go his way, and I was really surprised how this man could be a leader in the community.

I really loved this I also made contact with them and they welcomed me in aswell but I got a spooky feeling not being strong in my own faith I was concerned my intentions may have been scewed. Thabkypu for this was great 👍

This is really well-made, and should have more views! Some friends and I flew down from Auckland in 2018 for the community show, I have an inkling I know which elders gave you guys the induction haha. We had a little tour after the show and met some of the teachers at the school, both of whom have now actually left the community. The place seemed tranquil, but I got major North Korea vibes the whole time.
No hunting lodge for us though! We rented a freezing cold cabin in Moana :P

Update on the businesses that you have mentioned here. Moo Chews cut ties after the first court case hit the employment court. The Air West cost is no longer owned by Gloriavale. At some point they sold it and it is now owned by another company that is based in Franz Joseph. I found that out by chance as I was staying in Franz Joseph. There are a few other business that are under the radar that a lot of us are unaware of. Things like the sphagnum moss which is converted to the liners of baskets that get used in the hanging flowers. That was and probably is still a huge business. They have many eggs in many baskets.
Really amazing editing & storytelling! Was the old-timey music that played while you guys were in the cabin added in, or was it played int he cabin by Gloriavale?

I’ve always been interested in Gloriavale’s community and their way of life as I’m sure a lot of people are, wouldn’t be surprised if I saw this clip on the likes of ‘Sunday’ or smth, I feel like I have so many questions for you about your time there 😂
Gloriavale is a terrible oppressive cult, very strict controlled by it's leaders. It has very little to do with Christianity, because many things it's founder Neville Cooper did teach them, were sinful corrupt and wrong. For example he did teach the people there to masturbate. That is why the most people who leave the community, go wild and are not prepared to live a normal christian life.

Thanks for shedding light on Gloriavale's business operations. Video is relevant in light of the two Employment Court cases against Gloriavale which found that former members with employees rather than volunteers.

And I'm not a Christian anymore but I fully respect other people's religious or spiritual beliefs falling as they're not emergent interpretation, promoting hate , violence on infringing on the rights of others. There is a new documentary out now called escaping utopia. It is from the people that have left. The woman you have at the start of you video who talked about whether she would leave with her husband was in the documentary. It is three episodes long. In it she mentions what Gloriavale did to keep her and her husband apart. Three is only four of Hopeful children by his first still in the community. One of his daughters husband has been forced out that much I figured out from Facebook.

And seems there's a lot of racism against maori people and other POC amongst members of the community based on what you're describing

A lot of cults have a uniform. I'd love to bring a trailer full of clothes there and offer them to them but they'd either shun them as sinful or be afraid of being ejected from Gloriavale because they wore normal clothes.

Pretty stupid of you to shit on the fact that 15 yr old built your lodge. After all my research and the work they invest themselves in early, they seem pretty competent to me as far as carpenters etc. What is your Yelp review?
They use spiritual blackmail teaching the members that if they don't follow the "rules" or instructions of the leaders, they will be kicked out of the community with no means of support and only the clothes they are wearing and on top of that they will burn in hell. The leaders emotionally blackmail and brainwash the members and threaten them with eternal damnation unless they tow the line. They weren't employed as paid workers, they were virtually brainwashed, indentured slaves. Because they may be competent carpenters does not mean the leaders are, or the cult is a good thing. What is your Yelp comment? There is good and bad in everyone and it's obvious this cult has more bad than good. Maybe you could join the cult and do a documentary? Would love to hear what your research came up with.
