U don't believe New Zealand is a Communist government, and these people own the property they live in. They also abide by the laws of the Nation in which they serve, and have never said they were a totally closed community for investigation type reasons. Having lived in Utah, the Midwestern American "Bible Belt" and in NYC, I've always been utterly appalled by how some local governments seem totally okay with allowing so-called religious freedoms to trump the laws of the land! In Utah and the Bible belt, religious communities (such as the Amish & the FLDS) are allowed to be essentially totally self-governing, to the point that basic laws regarding things like domestic/child abuse laws, child marriage laws and child labor laws are almost 100% ignored when it comes to certain groups. And in NYC, there are communities of ultra-orthodox Jews who are allowed to have basically their own police forces, religious charter schools, courts of law, etc., all using taxpayer money with zero oversight!
And, I have friends in the UK who say that there are similar situations with fundamentalist Muslim communities there: they're able to ignore laws about education, child marriage, domestic abuse and so on whilst using taxpayer money to support their communities.
This is a HUGE problem IMHO in many countries; governments are so terrified of being accused of infringing on "religious freedom" that they more or less give carte blanche to certain communities to openly break laws without any repercussions!
(Oh, and just to be clear- I am NOT implying that ALL Jewish, Muslim or fundamentalist Christian groups do this!! But I do very much think that the few who DO do this make all the other law-abiding & taxpaying members of their faiths look bad to outsiders...which especially in the case of minorities can be extremely dangerous! I know many law-abiding Jews & Muslims who are outraged at the way that fundamentalist groups feed false and dangerous stereotypes that endanger their entire communities!)

Alive and kicking!! You see, when communities like this are open to law enforcement, have their own property, and live in a particular way, that everyone knows and understands, if they're going to live there. I don't think most people understand the truth about this place...if a boy or girl gets married, under the age of 17.. they MUST get their Parents approval!! If they give it, what exactly...is ANYBODY doing wrong, or illegal around there?? Im beginning to think that everyone on UTube and FB, that are making all the negative comments, are far left liberals, that don't understand what they're supposed to believe themselves. Liberals think like Communist. THESE PEOPLE...are living like Communists...if someone lives in a way other than you...you think they should be shut down, or closed. That's not how things are done in Free Countries. The ONLY time that things can be SHUT DOWN...in a free society, is when they are supported, ONLY, by the govt!! And THEN...they must be proven to cause negativity, or break laws in order for the Govt. monies are to be taken away!! I don't think these people get much of any govt help at all. Apparently, they are self supported. In such cases, you can either like them, or keep your mouthed closed, because it appears nothing they do is causing anyone outside of their group, ANY negativity. So, if you don't like what they do...don't watch it or support it. Not that it matters whatsoever, Because they receive nothing from you. It's time folks mind their own business.

@@myrmidonesantipodes6982 I don't think any sort of secular beliefs should be enforced on any group...but, at the same time, I *do* very much think that religious beliefs shouldn't be a pass to simply ignore the laws of whatever nation a group lives in! IMHO, enforcing basic laws isn't forcing "atheistic moral relativism" on anyone...it's just making them live by the same basic legal standards as everyone else. "Religious beliefs" shouldn't trump laws mandating things like laws requiring basic education or laws forbidding domestic abuse, child marriage, child labor, etc.
I think *beliefs* should be 100% unrestricted, but that *actions* must be subject to basic secular laws. Otherwise, you could have groups claiming that honour killing, refusal to provide education or medical treatment to children, child marriage, etc. are totally protected due to "religious beliefs."
And we've seen what happens when groups like the FLDS are allowed total freedom to practice their beliefs: abuse, exploitation and misery. So I don't think I'm better than anyone else, just that there are basic, minimal standards of behavior that *everyone* should be legally expected to abide by. And I don't think abuse or exploitation of ANY kind should be permitted, either by secular OR religious people!

People like this young woman Tarawa, SICKEN me.
First off, I'm not a member of Gloriavale and don't know anyone who is. All I know of them, is what I've watched on independent documentaries.
That being said, it's a relatively small group of 500 people, living a communal life, devoted to a specific lifestyle and communal living, with a fundamental Christian based lifestyle.
It's idiots like this Tarawa who think because they hate a chaste, disciplined lifestyle, that she has a right to make up stories, exaggerate details, and essentially destroy a flourishing community where most of the people are VERY happy.
What she's done, is involved lae enforcement and the court system, to oversee and "regulate" the daily life at Gloriavale. Anyone with a half a brain, sadly knows this isn't going to work and will crumble Gloriavale. Take one look outside this community, at what government has donee with low income recipients, government housing, public schools and curriculum etc etc, compare that to the complete opposite at Gloriavale and you can see its a disaster waiting to happen.
How can anyone expect a group of perhaps even atheists, working in government courts, to oversee and handle daily decisions? The courts don't even understand the concept or lifestyle.!!
The fact is, if people are inhappy, leave! But do NOT lie and exaggerate the details, in attempt to completely destroy this wonderful place that MANY love.
People in the secular world, cannot understand the appeal of living a Godly life. For a woman to submit to her husband. To NOT use birth control etc etc..
These people have made a decision for that life, LEAVE THEM ALONE.
Youngsters who were raised there, are NOT held captive! Anyone can leave, anytime. Just as this backstabbing woman left.
It doesnt matter what you do, or how virtuous it is. When people leave, they make up stories and lie, and are believed because the majority of people have an ax to grind against Christianity to begin with. (Unless its on some wishy washy church with no firm beliefs of anything!)
All you have to do, is LOOK AND LISTEN and see how the people live at Gloriavale, to see their doing something right! That diesnt mean it has to be something youd like, or your cup of tea. But even if its NOT for you, you can tell by watching them these people live better lives than anyone on government assistance, and better more fruitful lives than most of the general population!

      @@cherrytraveller5915 ... You're wrong.
Taking the word of ANY disgruntled former member, of ANY group, as being the "gospel truth" is a FOOLS action. This also applies to most books written on subjects like this, which typically are written with a biased point of view. That may be due to the authors antagonistic view and blatant hatred of any and all religious groups, which we commonly see in the people who tend to write on this topic. Additionally, many of these people writing on these groups are not only anti-religion, but are more specifically anti-Christian. And anyone discussing and writing on ANY of this, and applying a purely secular frame of mind to all it entails, can't even BEGIN to understand ANYTHING these people are doing or understand anything about the way they're living. They simply CANNOT understand. If you're not able to understand that, you're as blind as they are and so be it.
But ANYONE who really wants to understand this, and understand these groups, and understand the people in them, in a fair and unbiased way, can ONLY do that by looking into all of it, while using the SAME frame of mind and mental devotion to their faith, as the people they're "studying". Because to "investigate" it from your own, non-religious point of view, applying secular ways of thinking and trying to rationalize their ways, simply doesn't work. We've seen this over and over and over again in cases nearly identical. Its always the same flawed analysis, due to the same flawed "investigation" methods.
The only thing that changes is the group of people who are always the ones being bashed, ridiculed, and put under a spotlight l, with a host of bad information about them, intentionally meant to turn people in general against them, their way of life and their spiritual beliefs.
