The best advice I can give is to be truthful but very mindful when filling out the FAFSA form.
For example, for students with divorced parents, you only report the income of the parent that the student stayed with the most during the previous year... NOT the parent who earns more.
If the student stayed just one more day with the lower earning parent, it could mean the difference between tens of thousands of dollars per year in aid vs. $0.
