A good reminder that failures can lead to success in gardening. I scored an 80 but I'm sure I will still come across these problems again.
110 Hollis
I sure learn a lot from your videos. Insects are my big problem.
The best solution for me regarding insects is to use the very low cost mosquito type netting.
Hi Hollis and Nancy wish me luck. My thumb is very pale green😊
Thanks for the insight. God bless you two.
Thank you Hollis and Nancy! You both are always so good to us. God bless you 💜
You too!!
My score was 110. I have been through it all ,got discouraged and went right back at it. Never give up, home grown food is life.❤
With your bonus question my total score was 90! I just want to thank you because you are the main reason I have learned to garden successfully. Please keep on teaching us through your very detailed videos. I feel like you, Nancy and Bing Bing are a part of my family. ❤ Have a blessed day!
Hello again folks, i have big problem every year , squirrels and groundhogs . Another lovely video. Thank you.
Scored 100...I confess that the hot summer days are tough for me to find motivation. I still get out there and work but not as much as I really need to.
AMEN,AMEN!!
Hi Hollis and Nancys Homestead
Thank you so much for this fun, helpful video. I think it's really cool that you gave Gary's channel as advice to your viewers.
been gardening for eight years. I have zero green thumb, and yet here I am starting another garden this year😂
I'm in the same boat. My thumb is brown
Wife and I know exactly what trying to grow in sand is all about. We are in DeSoto County, FL. on a sand bar pretty much. Doing much better after slowly converting to raised beds for most the veggies. But it has been a struggle. Sweet potatoes and Seminole pumpkins don't mind the sand though so they stay on the ground. Not sure if you ever tried Everglades Tomatoes before but once you get them started, they don't turn off....it's a welcome problem to have. The hurricanes are definitely the most heartbreaking when they come too close. Ian actually flooded our 32 acres and the 180 mph winds took out most of our big oak trees. They said we broke the 100 year flood record for our area by 4ft or more. The plants that did survive went to keeping our hogs alive. When the waters didn't stop rising, I had to cut the fence and let the hogs into the garden. They climbed up on the raised beds to sleep to stay out of the water. Thank God the water never came higher than the bottom step of our house. Many in our area weren't so lucky. The bright side was all the flood waters receded and left behind a lot of rotting vegetation. The pigs self seeded all the crops they had eaten for us and we had alot of surprises popping up all over the yard. Never had so many acorn squash before LOL.
I got an 80, still have a lot of learning to do! But pretty excited since this is my third year growing. Love my gardening! Thank you always for your videos ❤
I got a 60, i lost points mostly because Im gardening on a small scale in a protected backyard garden. I have learned alot over the years, thanks to you and Nancys videos. I hope to follow your example and take on a larger project one day. Thanks for the fun quiz Hollis!
I got a 70. My worst thing is the animals, esp squirrels and deer. Love my garden tho and every spring is a joy. 😊
Hollis, will you please make a detailed video of how you organize your notebook and what kind of information is essential to keep track of. Your organization skills are top notch, and I'd like to do a better job of tracking my successes and failures so I can do a better job of planning for next year's garden. Thanks to you and Nancy for sharing and teaching us all how to be better food growers for our families and friends.
Score was was not what I wanted it to be, but I just got back into gardening this year. going to keep trying and researching all my failures
That was fun, I got 90 . thank you for taking the time to do this.
My animals were trying to help in the garden today and I didn't f word lose my mind🤣😂❤ i can say i at least have a green thumbnail and a quarter finger ❤ still loving it big time.
We love your videos! I would say I got a 80 . I have re-watched so many of your videos. They really help! Blessings to you both
What a what a wonderful video. Thank you so much🎉
Oh boy , 100 was mine . And I also remember the headaches . But the more I failed !! The better I got up .
But I'm still learning. 😊
God bless.
Southeast Texas here .
I scored 100 also😁 I'm here in VA & I've been watching your channel since the time you lived in VA too😍 I've learned so much! Thank you & God bless you🙋
fun quiz. scored 100. i have raised beds and container tables. so never had a weed problem.
Yay! Thanks to you & Nancy and your videos, I made a 100 plus 10 points for the bonus question.😅 Last summer I was careful to pay attention to the heat coz I almost fainted a couple times.
Great video as always if you have issues with ground hogs Next level garden Brian the host lives in California he talks about how he protects his trees and beds from them. As always Hollis and Nancy great Video I got 120 as I have been a gardener for a while last 12 years we have planted something every year and canned and freeze 🥶 as always keep them great videos coming!!❤🎉🎉
Yay, I got a perfect score! I have had to deal with all those issues in my long long gardening journey. It’s astonishing how regular compost additions help most of the problems we face!
Great job!
That was fun! 110 points.
Wow! I did great, Hollis! I amazed myself. Of course, how could I go wrong? I've been watching you since forever! haha My success has much to do with your talents. This was fun. All my best for this years harvest! Love from Ohio.
Great job!
Hi family 👋🏽 i got a 80 and im a new Gardner from Corsicana Texas born and raised. I enjoyed the test and learned some great tips. God bless you all 🙏🏽 Big Hugs 🫂✝️🙌🏽💜
I scored a 100. THANK YOU for this video. It’s one of the most realistic and encouraging videos on gardening that I’ve seen. Also, you’re probably the only person I’ve seen discuss how weather affects the gardener **separately** from the crops. That is a real thing. For me, I don’t mind the heat but I am not a morning person so in the summer time here in Texas it can already be 90° before I get out to water my plants and they are always mad at me about it. We have drought water restrictions also, though, so I’m not allowed to set up timed irrigation. Happy gardening, y’all!
I scored a 40. I started out gardening last year with a few transplants from a vendor at the farmer's market. This year I want to start seeding and growing more produce to supplement what I buy from the grocery store. Your channel has really inspired me to get serious about gardening and has broadened my excitement and the reality of what's possible when it comes to gardening. I live in an apartment so I'll be continuing with container gardening. Hopefully by the end of this year my score will have improved.🤞🏽I'm a little late to the party but I've started my first seedlings two days ago. Can't wait to see what happens. Thank you Hollis and Nancy for all you do. May you continue to have an overflow of abundance. ❤
Thank you and Nancy for all your videos and information
Our pleasure!
I scored an 90. I haven't ran into inclement weather unless you count the rain splitting my tomatoes.
Woohoo! Gardening 50+ yrs. Finally got a green thumb score. 110.
Scored 100! Thank you for all your videos! You are definitely one of the best out there and one that I rely on for good information.
I scored 100 with the bonus points. Had to take a break from growing squash as well. Trying again this year.
In my old yard with awesome soil & in town where it's a bit warmer and protected, I would have gotten 90 even with squirrels. My gardens looked wonderful! In my not so new yard (15 yrs. now), I am still struggling with poor soil, every animal you mentioned except rats, timing, & more. I got 10. I'll be checking out your previous videos. Thanks!
Love all your videos! ❤ My score was 100 😂 I started gardening 5 years ago but I grow spring, summer and fall so most of the year. I have encountered a lot of setbacks but I just see them as learning opportunities. Keep up the good work. I really enjoy your detailed videos! Some of the best on CZcams for sure! Be blessed 😇
You do great things in your gardens Hollis. All the best to you and Nancy and Bing Bing!
Thank you! You too!
New subscriber here! I love you and Nancy, you are the sweetest couple, and your love for gardening and each other shows in every video. I have been gardening for 30yrs, started out with two indeterminate beefsteak tomato plants and one jalapeno. Have gradually over the years graduated to other vegetables, this year will be my first year growing spaghetti squash and corn in containers. I scored a 60 on your thumb test as 5 of the questions I do not encounter where I live (so far, lol). I am growing my determinate tomatoes and peppers in a pop up greenhouse and have had great success with that. Thank you for all the very practical and heart felt info you give in every video. Wishing everyone a fabulous harvest this and every year!
Terrific video! I never thought about planting before the insects. The bugs & deer are my biggest pests here in South Carolina.
Did great til last question🤪 I can find excuses if weather is too hot or cold!
I highly recommend the Aerogarden with a seed starting tray, it does all the work for you and you get perfect transplants every time. I love the imformation you give us, I've learned alot, thank you!
Gary Pilarchik the rusted garden
I got a 90 because my plants have always fruited because I balance out my fertilizer. Thank you so much for your wisdom, guidance and positive gardening knowledge.
I got 100. Love gardening and love your channel
That is awesome!
Another great video! I'm at 100 but I don't feel I've totally overcome these, just learned to adjust.
I scored 85. I will definitely revisit this video in the future to see if im improving. Perhaps another extra credit question would be dealing with burn out. My garden is my escape to enjoy life and clear my head. When the garden starts stressing me out it can feel quite defeating. Wonderfully thought out video! God bless y'all.
I come from a long line of farmers …I kept telling myself that it’s in your genes , you can do it and kept learning more
I’m still trying… every year I do a little better , and I always try to ask for help from the LORD And thank HIM Also , in JESUS’ Name
I take one crop a season and learn as much as I can about it also
I got an 80, but its been a hard road, I've learned alot from your videos though, so thank you!😊
You got this!
I have enjoyed your videos for several years now. I especially liked the Book Choy tutorial. I followed your lead and have a nice crop going right now. I was wondering if Nancy might share her recipe for the Bok Choy Soup you mentioned.
Thank you for your help❤
Did pretty good on the quiz. This year, I changed up on the soil out here in the desert. If anything gets me out doors in the sun. Everybody should do this. Thanks for all your videos.
Great job!
Best video !
Glad you think so!
Years ago I had the most beautiful garden it has started to produce then the Hell storms Killed it. just saying
I think I received an 80.
Hollis. Seems here in central Louisiana, my squash blooms and the fruit dries up and falls off. I presume the lack of bees is the problem. So now I am keeping an eye on the blooms and trying to pollinate them myself. Is there any other options?
110 but I've been at this for a lot of years
Sheeeeeesh I don't have a green thumb unfortunately 😔
My score was 80 :-)😅
Inclement weather...aka Florida 😂❤ thank god for banana trees and papaya.
So true!
60 🤗
Oh my God. I have all, but the most terrible are the lissards
How come you don't use other plants, ie. herbs or flowers, too deter the insects?
