Insane (stylized as 1NSANE) is an off-road racing game by Invictus and distributed by Codemasters. While in development, it had been provisionally titled Off The Road.
A sequel, Insane 2, was released in January 24, 2012.
Levels are set in real world locations, scattered throughout North America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. The actual design, however, is fictitious. The single player campaign comprises a series of championships in different vehicle classes, where the player unlocks new vehicles and locations, based on their score. Vehicles range from utility vehicles to light buggies and are either fictional or inspired by actual production vehicles. Though the names do not correspond with any actual vehicle, the fact is evident both visually in-game and in the names of the game's files.
Players can drive cars of their choices in either of nine events, which include the Capture the Flag, Jamboree, Gate Hunt, Destruction Zone, Pathfinder, Off-Road Racing, Return the Flag, and Free Roam, which, exclusively, is only available in practice mode.

Suspension animations and car phisics... the reason why i will never forget this game, was fun to play.
I totally agree... What a nice memories i have!
This Game and "Bleifuss Offroad" where amazing!
I used to play this on our lan way back in the days, lots of fun, still looks graphically decent despite its age.
I was going to make a vehicle mod of this game, for the other videogame from Atari, Unrealtournament2007. This game "1NSANE" lacked an MMO hosting feature, only IP address became useful after popularity dropped, do to just that.
I still have a notebook filled with codes for my favourite generated courses/terrain.
1nsane definitely marked my childhood, I could always see that what most caught my attention in this game was its impeccable physics for the time and even today. Someone had to remake this game with current shaders, keeping the realistic physics it already has. I played the first time on a Celeron D 2.6ghz 256mb DDR1 and Via UniChrome Pro IGP 64mb.
My favorite childhood game
The Capture the Flag mode was really really fun. It's kind of weird that not many games nowadays properly use this mode, I remember Quake 3 Arena also had a very fun team based Capture the Flag mode. It's a pitty really.
Anyways, I remember there was a very high hill somewhere on a desert map in this game, and I'd go there in Free Roam and see how many times I could crash the car and still climb up to crash it again, I would place bets with my cousin on who could crash the car more times and still climb up to crash it again.
I loved this game so much, was 13 of 14 years old at the time and listened to my favorite punkbands. 36 now and almost forgot how awesome this was, thanks man!
same story bro
People in
2000: Insane 1 100% Physics - Wow this is unique, realistic, what a quality....amazing. Ultimate realism is amazing.
and 2012: Insane 2 100% Arcade - Wow.....what a fun arcade game. Just fun, not unique, but this is enough for people!
What is the different? Only 12 years! Thanks for Hungarian developers for this incredible physics for the 1. episode! (And Terep 2 game)
Ez tényleg egy magyar játék? 😱
ahhh 1nsane. I was heavily involved in the crawling mods back in the day. The owner of Insane Garage DAV was a very good friend. We made many vehicles and maps.
Where can i download them? Have you some video about that?
After an extensive search trying to remember the name of this game I loved so much as a kid- I have finally found it! Loved this game. Explains my love for BeamNG drive now.
Same as me xD, i was searching like 2 years till now.
Loved this little game, so happy I've found it !
My childhood game.
Cyberpunk could learn a leson or two
This might just be the first game to use soft-body simulation for vehicles. Released 15 years before BeamNG and 5 years before Rigs of Rods, that's insane... pun intended.
Made me remember the cars physics like the old hungarian game called Terep2 / Deformers-.
because this is it - Terep2 "completed".
The lead developer behind this game is the same Dénes Nagymáthé 😊
good old days
çocukluğum gözümün önüne geldi valla inanılmaz bir oyundu ya
Soooooooo fun at Lan partyes back in the days,,,miss those times
The OG Dakar Desert Rally
the game from 2000 HOLY MOLY i never saw it and i bet not everyone had enough hardware to play this such realistic in its time
I played this all day on weekends in middle school.
Man, I love that game. The beast of lan-party fun!
I loved that game. But i usually just cruised around on "free roam". The competitions was ridiculous :P And the cars was kind of an odd bunch. You would get "Sodar" and "Baja Bug" first thing. And after unlocking everything you finally got "Rallycroxx" the cool looking prerunner truck on the cover and it was worse in every way than "Sodar" and "Baja Bug" :P :P :P
my childhood game with 4x4 evolution ^^
I griiiiinded this game when i was a little kid
I loved the music, I guess that's when Codemaster were masters in term of car psyhics (along with CMR and TOCA). PIII + Riva TNT2 + 128 RAM ;)
Hi! Codemastars had ZERO work on the physics, and ZERO work on this game, Insane was developed and coded 100% by "Invictus Games" in Hungary. Codemasters was only the distributor of the game. Invictus also developed the original Street Legal Racing (Redline), and Cross Racing Championsip, and LA Street Racing (aka Overspeed). By the way Invictus Games still exist today, but they make mobile games only.
@@wheelheart Also Project Torque. Invictus was a beast.
Memories ❤️😭
the nostalgia... 😮
My childhood bring me here😢😢
online i had more fun on this than anything! i wish i could go back in time xxx
That looks pretty cool...
memories
nostalgia
How did you got the game to run in 4K?
Back then I only played it to damage the car as much as possible
Damals mein erstes und bis jetz lieblings game
Fuck. I'm so old 😔
I spent in this game over 1000 hours
I wish there will be an INSANE 2
If INSANE 2 already exist, I really want it
yes, its exist
@@rdza-korozja_sp.z.o.o. Does it retain all the funny car crashes and AI?
@@darkmessiah9566 Sadly, no. Insane 2 is a joke, game only good on its own, but not as sequel to Insane - It made itself way too arcade-y, removed and simplified lots of things. Unlockable map generator is no more. A thing like speedometer or car damage HUD? Forget it. Oh, and regarding the mentioned car damage system - It's not existing in this game, all there is, is visual damage of your car breaking, which doesn't really mean or do anything. If you go too fast into a wall or anything like that, you explode instantly. What about, I dunno, say, buttons for rolling the car back onto wheels or separate respawn/repair buttons? Nope. All you have is just respawn. Additionally, carrying the flag in Capture The Flag or Return The Flag, makes the car unusable trash. While I can drive without any issues normally with a buggy, grabbing the flag immediately makes the car want to roll over no matter how careful you drive or turn. Last thing is terrible, insane AI rubber banding. You can loose flag for literally half a second and they are right next to you. Source of all this is Steam reviews, negative filter.
@@LugiDergX Oh crap...then i'm staying with Insane 1, that one is fun(ny) as hell!
@@darkmessiah9566 It is a good game in its own right, don't get me wrong. It's just not what you would expect from a sequel to more or less realistic original game about off-road. The differences are likely coming from the fact that a whole other developer and publisher were involved in making of Insane 2. While there are new modes that can be fun, like staying in a light under helicopter moving around a map to score points, or collecting boxes of varying sizes, dropping from the sky, they can be more frustrating than relaxing, at least regarding the helicopter one - And the helicopter moves around map in predefined path, to add ontop of that. But they even took out free roam mode and ability for you to adjust AI difficulty, which, if at least that was there, I would definitely get the game for what it is on its own. But missing a thing like this, certainly doesn't motivate, seeing as AI is presumably always on highest difficulty in quick matches by default.
The speedometer is broken in my game. Using the widescreen mod it makes to so it's under the screen.
Nevermind, I needed to keep pressing enter when installing the fix.
@@DiegoAlanTorres96 How did you manage to fix the issue? I am not sure if I understand what you mean by "keep pressing enter when installing the fix". I would love to be able to have the game run non-stretched on my 16:9, 1600x900 monitor, but I have exact same issue with speedometer, at least graphic for it, as actual speed value is still where it should be.
@@LugiDergX You need to install "1nsanePatch2" then "1nsane widescreen mod" and follow the instructions, as in extract the "PATCH" folder to your 1nsane game folder and run "16-9" file as administrator then keep pressing enter until the cmd window closes.
Optionally you can setup dgvoodoo2 to add some antialiasing and reshade support, or if the game refuses to run properly.
@@DiegoAlanTorres96 Worked this time, thank you so much! I must have had closed the command prompt window too early the first time I did this.
@@LugiDergX No prob
can this game will be emulated?????
Yes/no
What the heck... isn't this just Smuggler's Run on the PS2?!
