Imagine playing as a renowned warrior from the Three Kingdoms/Sengoku Jidai Eras, a demon, a Mystic, a god or a guest character from other games and take part in a chaotic scramble to rule the brand new land which was established in the Warriors Orochi games

    Real opinion from someone who disliked dw9 a lot ( I'll try not to drag it out)
    I'm actually enjoying dw9E so far! It's pretty good when it comes to the battles, the feeling of it being open world is still there but the battles are parted in smaller stages and I prefer it that way. Combat seems to be flowing much better than dw9 even though its still the same and with clones.
    Performance is more optimized compared to the horrible optimization we had in dw9, rarely had any fps drops or lag.
    The strategy system is much more improved and detailed, might be difficult to understand if you are just starting out with the game.
    Strolls lets you go into the open world and talk/bond with people.
    Downside would be, can't make your own troops and banners etc. limited amount of caw clothing, no dlc outfits for your characters.
    ALSO an important note is that when you want to share your caw character online it's only possible to do it with 1 character, and the code will be platform bound.
    I would recommend this game, but not at it's full price especially not the deluxe edition or the season pass for that matter.

    By the way, the mid-battle interactions have been improved significantly, here's a few :
    Your Wife/Husband will have different lines mid battle than the usual lines they use.
    Characters that know each other will interact mid-battle too... Examples:
    Daqiao saved Xiao Qiao from a tough spot : "Thank you for saving me sis!"
    Guo Huai forced to fight Xiahou Ba : "Why must we fight... Xiahou Ba..."
    If you used a devious secret plan (like night raid). Some enemy officers will comment on you for using dirty tricks
    I still don't know if your child will have the same treatment, haven't tested it yet...
    But still, this is a GREAT attention to detail and i love it!

    Haven't bought yet, but they missed some key aspects that don't seem so hard to do:
    - Chinese Dub, they opened that door, it was beautiful, and personally I want more;
    - Use explore open world to recruit bandits into your army, everybody did it in the original story, why can't the player?
    - I remember Dynasty Warriors Online where we could fight mythical creatures, it could be a thing to fill the map since they made a good job putting mystical places in the map
    - Foreign tribes, they were a thing with the yellow enemy armies in the base game and they are becoming a thing in ROTKXIV, why can't they be added to fill the map, but with personalized "main camps" for you to fight or befriend?
    Likely one or more of those are coming in a paid DLC. All we can do is wait.

I am curious of what the full development would have produced. I'm sure 20-30% of the game didn't materialize because of money/time issues
    1. Mercenary missions in the open world: Imagine escorting a carriage from Xu Chang to Luoyang. Fighting off bandit, animals and even enemy officers in that region.
    2. Weather effects: A fire attack in a drought or opening flood gates during rain storm.
    3. There are breakable items and things that can be set on fire inside castles during stroll. It appears some sort of activity was supposed to take place that never materialized.
    the peasants even react to arrows being shot at them. It seems if pillaging a castle was a real thing, but got turned into a menu item instead. I shot a container of water and got 200 gold???? shooting a gong gives 1 gold also.
    4. Some regions have multiple cites and outpost, those would be a good location for raids and skirmishes especially for vagrant units.

    One benefit to fighting enemies in stroll mode is that if you defeat 100 of them while accompanied by a friendly officer, they will give you a random item/gem/secret plan card after you end the stroll. I’ve received some good stuff this way but also some total duds. You’ll know you did it right when the officer shouts some generic appreciation about your combat abilities while fighting.
    I’m enjoying the game so far but it’s definitely more of an alternate take on DW9 than an attempt to push things forward.

    • @gseric4721
      @gseric4721 Před 2 lety

      Yep. It's also pretty cool that you gain currency or rations. Currency for defeating bandits and rations for defeating beasts. If you're in a pickle and need resources and looking to spend time with your companion while wanting a potentially powerful jewel or plan sometimes it's beneficial to take out bandits or beasts during a stroll. It also gives you a chance to learn the map KOEI have implemented in case you'll actually need it for DW10 in the future.

    I think we're always going to need a go-to spam move in Chaos mode...always. The waiting during battles can get super annoying too, but sometimes, if you skim along the wall, you'll be able to zip-line up it if all the wall bases are taken. Also, if you scale the wall, you can open the castle doors from the inside by hitting the door once.
    I feel like if any of the DW9 games helped "save" the series, it would have to be the original DW9. DW9E's is fun to play, of course(really appreciate the additional OST's they added from older games, but now we don't have the actual *themes* of the Wu, Shu, Wei, or Jin kingdoms. That's pretty messed up). The officer interactions during your stroll, along with the beautiful Chinese Symphonica band can be pretty cool, but like you said, they could have done *soooo* much better. Could have been soooo epic.
    The fact that there's nothing gained when selling your belongings like jewels is extremely stupid as well. Once you have run out of space, you have to go on a stroll, and literally scroll through hundreds of jewels at the merchant's to sell them all for....0 credits? Who would want to play a game like that? lol
    DW9E's could have been the best DW's game ever(that's saying a LOT), but like I said in my Steam review. They REALLY dropped the ball on this one. I gave them a 6/10 but I still put down that the game is recommended to get so people can learn the new combat mechanics for DW10. Hopefully

      Wind is great for getting enemies off balance, but it's pretty much useless past hard mode(enemy officers can tank through it quite easily). Lighting lets you charge moves faster, and if you hit enemies in the air right after hitting them down with a charge attack(R1+X on a PS4 controller), you get thunderbolts that hit a number of targets at a time that does pretty good damage. And yeah, poison is useless, but I'm not sure how lethal it is in terms of plans.

    i think in regards to the game, DW8E and SW4E did better than DW9E, but there is some stuff new inisde the game to make it fresh.for me it is ok if you don't have another Empires game to play, but if you got 8E, even tho the character customization is better and you can make some gorgeous stuff, there is actually less customizeable stuff on this game than on 8E... No Banners, Custom Scenarios, Changeable Weapons, custom armies, custom horses... for the customization is only your CAWs and that's it. that's what kills it to me.
    i was stoked to replicate a scenario i did wich was literally Modern China vs Taiwan transported into the 200A.D.s with lots of CAWs i did on 8E (i even made the banners of the two countries with their respective symbols. I just played DW9E recently without playing the vanilla 9 firsthand. Yeah combat is not great at all. I'd prefer the usual DW combat scheme + the kill trigger switch utilized here when the officers are stunned and lower than half of their HP (akin to Samurai Warriors 4), since the kill trigger doesn't appear reliably here. Now into the Empires aspect.
    This game really just hits the satisfying and unsatisfying to play at the same time, it's wild. I like the battle concept of siege-defensive war, but to be boxed within a square battlefield is just not good. The conquest mode is fleshed out well with levels like Brave, Benevolent, Evil, etc. and those affecting on what kind officers are optimal to interact is pretty fun, but to be restricted on interacting with certain officers within owned territories is just too limiting. It would be better if we can recruit unaffiliated officers straight away to their home at morning or night instead of waiting for them to visit our territories, making advancing relationship with a specific unaffiliated officers a chore. Not to mention strolling limited to a few action points are also not good. Although I didn't really care much to get my gold/rations back on strolling by finding and killing enemies, I just try to get 100 KO and call it a day so I can get Gems or Secret Plans to use because it's more faster to end the month and get Gold/Rations from the individual commands instead.
    Yes the conquest is decent, but there is no Free Mode to play freely like DW8E is a big no. I expected improvement of DW8E Free Mode like you can set boundaries of the battlefield by yourself on certain castles, villages, camp, or any area. Because there are so many unused castles in this game that you can explore but ended up not using. But no, You can only play battles in Conquest mode with set battles on a few castles only.
    And even then, we can't create our conquest scenario like DW8E. There should be a custom Event Battle for custom conquest in DW9E instead as an improvement from DW8E. But there is none. If anything, the Edit Mode is very lackluster compared to DW8E. No custom conquest, no custom warhorse, no custom soldier, no custom banners, no custom groups. Even though the Character builder is really good, there is just a massive lack of features on other departments.
    TL;DR: For an improvement of this game compared to DW8E, there are some disappointing removal of features that I think keeps offsetting this game out from the status of a really good game.

      I'm probably on the same boat as you. Just recently bought DW9E without playing the vanilla, and most of the points you made are exactly how it felt to play for roughly a week.
      I've been playing since idk, dw2, and empires since 5. And this game feels incomplete to its core.
      In terms of character creation, the limited clothes/armor are extra dumb. Most of the fun (at least to me) came from doing new officers, having like 40+ different sets that you can mishmashing into some crazy combinations. Even to this day, i see the DW8E in-game downloadable CAW officers, and find some hidden gems. But then, you go into DW9E, and you have... 6 sets and half of those are shareable between genders. Donwloadable CAWs are hidden behind codes. It starts by killing a huge aspect of the game.
      Open world "seems" ok, but it's void of anything to do in it. Officers being region/province locked on both strolls and invasion/defensive maps drives me nuts. Invasions/defenses happens after a few months either way, do i really need to waste a whole month moving a few officers just so i can interact with them and/or use them to defend/attack a new region? Meanwhile, you are being attacked by 5 different armies, and still need to refill rations, now that army power and "available" units are the same resource, and you easily lose 20%+ per battle eitherway
      But hey, Musou Officers are looking their best on the new engine (despite a personal preference on the dw8 design overall), and the new events feel refreshing, right? Too bad that, in the long, this won't matter much.

      pretty much agree. I feel like what is there in DW9E is good, but it feels like it could have been greatly expanded upon. The combat is just ok, I would prefer the old normal/charge attack system, just without 8's weapon affinity triangle thing. My biggest gripe I think is the battle scale limitations, I hate being restricted to only 8 officers. It feels like a waste of time having a huge army, when you're only really going to be using the same 8 officers over and over to fight battles because you can't use a large portion of your army, like say 20 officers to take down a heavily defended region........

    For me Empires needs to abandon the castle sieges AND base capturing. The battles should play like the base game and xtreme legends battles. You should then have the layout be decided on many factors like how many troops each side has. Who's invading/defending and of course what strategies you bring with you vs the enemy strategies. This way battles can be large scale and use the full map and not feel so empty. Honestly that's a major problem with Empires games is the battles feel so small scale compared to the base experience since there is less officers and troops on the map at once. I'd also like them to stop butchering the soundtracks and just give us every single song again like we had in DW6E which to this day is the best option for music. Though gameplay wise I'd recommend DW7E for modern fans but for old school fans DW5E. I'd also like there to be water battles with the ships swaying around like in DW8 and you have to dock with an enemy ship to fight and unique maps for the different jobs like assassination or hunting. This way those jobs feel more unique and are not just recycling the large empty maps of the normal battles. I'd also like them to keep the seasons and we need time of day as well for maps so we can have variety and have it affect strategems and morale. Troops will fatigue quicker during winter and during a blizzard making it harder to see and certain strategems like fire type will not be effective if at all during the battle making it harder to fight if you rely on them so much. We also need longer deeper and more meaningful cutscenes ever since DW5E the cutscenes were just always so meh. They felt half baked and were awkward at times. The dialogue was also strange like the translators didn't understand the script. Also we need actual tags for relations so we can avoid incest cause ever since DW8E we can have children but after the scenario ends we save them as a custom officer and then they're not my kid in the next playthrough and may end up confessing their love to me at the cherry blossom trees..... Sweet Home China.

    DW9E is a decent game, it's just an incomplete one. It feels like 30% of a game. But Koei Tecmo likes to predatorily monetize Dynasty Warriors. They want you pay $60 for the raw game, $60 for Empires then $60 for Extreme Legends - with a giant, steaming pile of paid-DLC in between,
    The ONLY mode that Empires has is "Conquest". And it's fun. It's interesting. I beat three conquests (two on Hard, one on Chaos). I did a Shu campaign, I did the Yellow Turban campaign (THE WAY OF HEEEEAVEN) and then I did a Wei campaign. Between them, I put about 40 hours into the game. I really enjoyed the political / military strategies. I thought the combat was really fun. I enjoyed collecting Epic versions of all the Artifacts and socketing them with full Epic gems. I grinded out Hexmark, Shadow Runner and Red Hare. I got about 85% of the achievements. Considering I spent $13 on the game, I'm not dissatisfied.
    But that's the rub. It's just the SINGLE game mode. No real campaigns. No battle of Hulao Gate, or Chibi or Heifei Castle. No Wan Castle, no Guangdong, no Yellow Turban. It's just an endless stream of the same handful of maps, on offense or defense, with no arching story elements. It's hollow. It's as hollow as the MASSIVE open world that is utterly useless in Empires. This game should have been included with DW9. They shouldn't be doing a raw game, an empires game and an extreme legends game. DW9 should have INCLUDED CONQUEST MODE.
    It just feels like a super fucking insulting cash-grab from a developer that is literally only still alive because of the good-faith of its loyal fanbase. Really sad stuff.

    Still prefer DW8E cause the mission like assassinated ruler etc. and hoping more event cutscene, like DW9... Or all cutsce from all prev DWE become DW8E cutcscene. Only hoping someone can mod the system hahahaha....

      That and the quest missions those would be perfect hopefully we get more things to do in the future. I wish during strolls that you could actually train with your allies. Or get tracked down by a assassin

      dw8E is one of the most horrible from the entire empires franchise, the endings are always the same, such a horrible game

  • @justinbradley4083
    @justinbradley4083 Před 2 lety +2

    This didn't feel like a new game to me. It felt like a large DLC for DW9.
    Already had low expectations for the CAW but CAW weapons choices only show the character you are getting the weapon from and not the actual weapon you are getting like samurai warriors empires. It just seems like such a waste not to let the CAW characters choose their favorite weapon types and musou skills instead of making them copies of characters.
    Another thing I hated was how they took away everything from the vagabond option. There is literally no reason to not be a part of a kingdom since there are no missions you can go on or things you can do without a kingdom.
    Hoping that future updates make this game better and actually add to it but until I read something about that, pretty sure I'm just gonna be leaving this game alone

    • @ChrisGildart
      @ChrisGildart  Před 2 lety +1

      I haven't played as a vagabond since it was introduced in DW6E, so I didn't even know there was removed features on that side. I'm also hopeful that updates to the game give it some much needed meet on its bones.

    • @gseric4721
      @gseric4721 Před 2 lety

      The only point of going Vagabond is to aid in leveling up your character, becoming a ruler, or bringing in recruits for the ruler you are about to serve. Becoming sworn siblings and having a spouse before choosing who you will serve so you can bounce to a different ruler whenever with your sworn siblings(can have 3 in this game)/spouse is also beneficial...I guess.
      That hurt me as well. Trying to make things better because of KOEI's laziness is a chore, but it still doesn't hurt the experience too bad since the music/interactions with officers is so beautiful in this game. I don't think I'll ever get tired of hearing the music, and KOEI's brought back a lot of OST's they didn't have in DW8E's. But of course, they did something stupid like not including the actual themes from either Wu, Shu, Wei, or Jin. It's like they WANTED the game to be bad. There's something wrong with the game in almost every single area, it seems.

    Dynasty Warriors games looks so... Gay nowadays. I loved the DW5. It was finally more like DW2 after 3 and 4 but better. DW6 was so bad that I haven't tried after that game any of these newer games. It was clear to see back then (DW6) the way officers dressed, the weapons etc they had was more like from the comic book universe than fantasy fiction about real history events. 15 years later: Enemy soldiers don't fight, you can't even call them zombies. More like sitting ducks. Officers run faster than horses, they fly on the battlefield when doing combat etc. After DW5 I wanted the series get a little more realistic and they went opposite direction. Nothing fancy. Just wanted them to replace weapons like what Guan Ping used, add a stamina meter maybe. You know like after some combos swinging weapon gets a little slower. After watching this video I can't believe how huge fan I was 20 years ago of this series. Now it looks... GAY.
