  • You no longer need to pay for antivirus software now that Microsoft Defender is working solid. Microsoft Defender is a free product that comes with Windows 10 and 11. It is a much better product than you may have experienced with Defender in the past and compares very well against other top name antivirus software solutions. See how you can enable it on your PC!

    Thanks for the tip! My Anti-virus is actually coming up for renewal this month, so good timing. We have Windows 10 and simply let the updates happen. Does that mean we have the newer version of Defender that is much better? Or do we have to do something special or get Windows 11?

    • @SeleTraining

      You can only have Defender as the primary or choose another as primary and make Defender the backup. But no real need to combine them since Defender is really able to replace any other antivirus software solution.

    I mainly use Windows Defender as well, but there is one thing to keep in mind: Unlike most commercial Anti Virus software, Microsoft Defender (commercial version) has no AI and relies on an internet connection to keep itself updated on a daily basis. So in case your PC often has no internet connection (for whatever reason), then a 3rd party solution might be better still. (Many of them do use AI, and AI doesn't rely on internet connection on a daily basis like Microsoft Defender does.) Having said that, Microsoft Defender will still be the way to go for 90% of the cases of course.

    • @SeleTraining

    • @Allious131

    • @philfyphil
      @philfyphil Před 2 lety

      That’s very true if you are referring to a network based anti-virus (such as Sophos Enterprise Console) where one server accesses the internet for updates and then distributes the updates to all the client machines that may not have internet access.

      @@ljmars3787 Some crashes are caused by hardware related issues and some are caused by software. If a virus infects your computer think about how much damage that can cause if it corrupts many files. Each is critical to the functionality of the system. That is one reason it's important to create a restore point so you can revert the system back if something major causes the issue. The biggest complaint I have with Microsoft is when they release an update that actually causes issues like this. I don't blame them so much for viruses but when they do it to themselves becaus ethey don't test their updates enought it is a surprise.
