- The Cleveland Browns acquisition of Deshaun Watson all but spells the end for Baker Mayfield’s time in Cleveland. According to a report, the Browns are looking for a first-round pick in return for a trade involving Baker. However, another report details that if he gets cut, the AFC North division rival Pittsburgh Steelers would quote “pounce” to sign him as a free agent. He said attitudes against betting have gotten a lot more open on tv recently, and that he felt a certain amount of hypocrisy judging that player too hard. Baker's rookie contract ended in 2021. He signed a 1 year extension which means some communication broke down in the negotiations. Berry had no intention of ever paying Baker the big money. Yet, Baker's agent told him to play injured and he would get the big money for him later.
And while skip talking reports there are other reports that Cleveland was moving off baker anyway

Skip is skipping over (all pun intended) the fact that when Odell went down, the Browns focused on Chubb and the running game to take the ball out Baker’s hands. With the defense focused on Chubb and the running game, that freed things up for Baker. Skip acting like it was all Baker and OBJ was the problem!

I’m a Steelers fan, and I’m not shy about saying that 11-0 start was one of the most fraudulent records in NFL history. Never once did I think they had a shot at going anywhere in the playoffs. Skip never does mention they lost 5 of the last 6, and gave that playoff game away with six turnovers and spotted Baker 28 points. Not much pressure to perform when you are up 4 TD’s in the first quarter.

I think Trubisky really deserves a chance. I hope the Steelers at least give him that chance, instead of pursuing Baker.
