    What's the one piece of software that feels tailor-made for you?

      Pages. But I still prefer the older Pages '09 before Apple trashed it. It was much more capable for many things.

      The one piece of software that is to me as Ulysses is to you is Ulysses 😃

    Hi. Thank you, it was very useful for me. If you can, i have 2 questions for you: 1) How you do from just words until a whole disign article for Wordpress and for medium. 2) Why you duplicate your article ( in your wp and the same on medium). 3) I also would like to know how you turn the text to video and how and where you publish it. 4) what are ypur goals in each kind of content/plataform? Thank you again!!!!

    Inspiring video. I wish Ulysses had more video tutorials available. It would be awesome if you’d ever consider doing a few more. For example, a tutorial dedicated to exporting work and the various options. Also, some coverage about the proper way to attach photos or pdf files to the content of a project. And, speaking of external content such as photos, pdf news clippings, links to Google books, etc., do you like to keep these things attached to source material sheets (our research) in Ulysses? Or attached in the comments/notes section of a document? If this is something you do, please let’s us know? What a stupendous feature it would be to have these things at our finger tips in a Ulysses writing project. Of course the original files are saved on our Macs as well. Thanks and sorry for all the questions. Hope this makes sense.

    I've used Word pretty much my entire life on computers, from PCs to Macs. I loathe it, but still keep it because so many businesses still use it. But for my own writing, I've been looking to streamline the processes a bit. Writing in Wordpress is extremely cumbersome. I had IA Writer years ago but wasn't a fan. And I'd been considering incorporating Medium and another distraction-free writing tool into my process. Lo and behold, this video! Thanks again for the concise review. Ulysses and Medium, here I come!

    Thank you for introducing me to Ulysses and Medium. As someone who like to showcase my thoughts and writing skills, they are great, especially Medium, because other sites are tailored to a specific topic.

    I once used an 'offline mail reader' (from Fidonet days) for the C128 that I was able to work with the software writer for how I felt a text editor should work, and convinced him to add keyboard macros - some I still use to this very day. That really was in a way, made just for me. I wrote for BBS Magazine at the time and used that editor for writing all my articles. And there's never been another editor that I've felt the same way about since. (I moved from Michigan to Australia and married the software writer - we had more than 20 amazing years together). I'd really love to know more about that chunky multi-coloured keyboard that was shown in a couple different clips. Was that for a Raspberry Pi?

      Thanks for the comment! Check out my previous videos, Gaelyne - you'll find a couple that feature those keyboards in far more detail :)

    Has your blogging setup changed much in the last year? I think keeping the original content in Ulysses or something local is key when using cloud platforms to publish

    I need to find more “how to” articles and videos about Ulysses. It looks too complex for my brain. I’m an avid Scrivener user for draft writing. I also use ProWriting Aid for editing before passing my manuscripts to a actual editor. But, those are two softwares I currently cannot live without.

    Mark, excellent video. I, like you, do quite a lot of blogging for my business. And the blogs end up as videos, too. And I am typing this on a MacBook Air so we have a lot in common, it appears.
    But I want to ask you about publishing my existing blogs on Medium. I note you say that there is no SEO damage or issues as a consequence of publishing straight to Medium, and no 'duplicate content' penalty. You are sure about this?
    Thanks.

      @MarkEllisReviews  Před 3 lety

      Thanks for the lovely comment, Terry. And, yes, 100% sure. Medium adds a canonical link back to the original blog. Hasn’t harmed my website one bit.

    Since you like using Apple products, have you tried using Pages, the standard word-processing package, for your writing? Does Pages port well to Word Press?

    • @MarkEllisReviews
      @MarkEllisReviews  Před 3 lety

      I haven't used Pages enough, to be fair. But it doesn't feature the same markdown, export and built-in file/folder management I'm after, unfortunately.

    I’m a newbie to your channel and, so far found the content to be spot on.
    I have a question about Ulysses and whether you’ve compared it directly with Scrivenor or Squibler?

    • @MarkEllisReviews
      @MarkEllisReviews  Před 2 lety +1

      Welcome onboard, Jim! I was a long term Scrivener user. Ulysses beats it in terms of simplicity, syncing and UI, in my opinion.

  • @simianinc
    @simianinc Před 3 lety

    Have you tried Scrivener? What’s your proofreading process? I’m an ok writer, can edit other people’s writing, but am poor at proofreading my own work. I think after writing a piece, I read what I intended to write rather than what I did write and I miss things. I’ll typically notice my errors a day or two later after publication. But waiting a couple of days before sharing my work doesn’t help. I like the idea of a proofreading app - i can ignore advice I don’t agree with - but they tend to be mostly for Windows and I’m a Mac user.
