Question.. Do you "export" the account while the new phone is adjacent the old? Or is the export process a file that is saved to your computer?

Authy has a phone and pc app. It works just like google, however you can set it up on more than 1 device. If you lose your phone, it's still on your pc/laptop. Just remember, once set up on your devices, you should disable "enable/disable new installs". This stops anyone else adding your account to their device. If you want to add a device just turn enable it. Using Authy correctly will mean that you never NOT have access to your 2fa codes.

Does the authenicator app generate a new code at every sign in or do you atually use that initial code on subsequent sign in's?

What I also do is take a screenshot of the code you initially scan into the authenticator and save it to two disconnected flash drive. This way it's easy to scan the codes back in on a new device. I also recommend adding the authenticator to every phone and tablet you own.

But I already spend a lot of time, setting up passwords and typing codes. As if that's not enough. Should I spend a lifetime verifying codes that verify authenticity which verifies passwords which in turn verify that I am who I am? I already have millions of passwords and applications for a bunch of stuff and spend time daily verifying everything I ever need to access, and even after accessing sites and applications, I still have to re-verify over and over who I am every few minutes of my lifetime.....
It got to the point of me hating these processes and losing interest in them so much that I can't force myself to understand anything. My brain is locked out of curiosity about these phenomena involuntarily, so no matter what you say now, I understand nothing of it. đ«đ«đ«đ« If I could understand it in one minute, I would. But I already spend five hours today trying to figure and understand something with this authentication, and now I feel like I lost five hours of my lifetime by throwing them away into nothingness, which lead me nowhere.
Your video was my last hope, but even this one lasted 10 mins, and I still understand nothing after it. So, there's 10 more minutes of life gone down the drain. Of gosh, and now another 10+ minutes wasted for just writing this very commentđĄđĄđĄđĄđĄ
I'm going to work out now. Enough wasted time for me......
Look on the bright side... there are very few accounts that I would apply 2FA to and those would be financial accounts and anything that holds really personal information. I reuse user names and passwords all the time for places like personal interest forums.

Do you need the authenticator app setting a code if your site has its' own 2FA process? I saw for not select the text message option on PayPal. Would that be equivalent? I see the benefit for site that don't offer the 2FA on your phone.

I rather see 2fA to be an option on softwareâs rather than for it to be required; because although it can be helpful but itâs a bit annoying for certain apps and softwares.

So do you have to always use two devices to set up and use 2FA? Just wondering because sometimes I'm no where near a second device and if I setup 2FA and then open and app requiring it. Will this affect me being able to get into my account? Not really wanting to setup something that won't let me into my account anytime or anywhere I would like. I have an account that was set up with authenticator app. My app got deleted from my phone, after setting up the app, I still can't log into my account due to not being connected to authenticator, trying to communicate with the account now. any thoughts

When you scan the QR code do you have to be using both your mobile phone AND laptop? My concern is being away from my laptop and not being able to complete the 2FA. Maybe this is a dumb question, I'm not sure :)

1. Have text sent with a unique number or 2. through last pass/1 password or any other.
Using an Authenticator App is safer than having the code texted

Hi: I have 2 factor authentication on most account. I am on travel to Ecuador. I cannot receive any of the text messages that are sent to my U.S. phone. What should I do. I cannot log into my accounts.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, in order for me to change my validation option from phone to email, I have to log into those accounts, which requires the code sent to my phone. I also tried installing Google voice and porting my number to it, but Google voice was sending a code to my U.S. number. I then bought a Skype number that supposed to have 2-way SMS, but the number isn't working in Ecuador. On a side note, I am always on NordVPN connecting via U.S. servers.

You should not "back up" your 2FA key with last pass, you should print out the QR code on a sheet of paper and throw it in a vault if you want to back up your 2FA.
Authy is what my tech experts recommend.

Facebook has little support for that, you can go through account recovery but it is a frustrating process

2FA does not help if you lose your phone.

I agree - 2FA on every account that will allow me. And I refuse to use SMS authentication given a choice. It's not secure at all. Read up on SIM Swapping for the reasons why.
As for the Authenticator app to use, I prefer Authy because you can back up your codes to the cloud and they are available to sync to other devices such as a PC, tablet, new phone, etc. Why not use LastPass Authenticator? I prefer not to have all my security tokens saved in one place. If I used that one and someone were to compromise my LastPass account, they would have my Passwords AND my Authenticator codes. And of course, it goes without saying, never use the same master password on Authy and LastPass, and NEVER store your Authy password in LastPass.

Its all easy in theory and nice to demonstrate when everything g is working ok But in practice poor Miss Daisy's old phone always dies or is lost or stolen when nothing has been backed up. So your export to new phone goes out of the window. Poor girld has then lost all her accounts including her life changing TikTok đ
