      See, that's the power of the Cornish, they can marry into their liege's family, who is a double King, without even needing to worry
      And they also married into the family of the Duke of Mercia that owns all of Northern England and got claims on 70% of Wales

    The beautiful thing about Crusader Kings 2 is that your mistakes make the game better. I can't tell you how many times I have had more fun because my three male children died from plague and I had to frantically defend my realm as a 7 year old girl from all of my cousins or something similar. Never feel bad about mistakes in this game: the stories you get from them are the best ones.

    • @lolmandos
      @lolmandos Před 6 lety +12

      tpbloomfield no, the headache (symptom) was substituted by the Great Pox (disease), which includes the headache debuff. The charred cat wasn't so much treatment as it was placebo, but it was effective. It's the middle ages, there is no medical science, just random flukes for what works and doesn't. Duke Cadoc believes the dead cat makes him feel better, but what actually made him feel better was , and both him and his physician will never know, but he is as good as treated.
      Also, Court Physicians don't cure diseases, they offer treatments. The disease will continue, sometimes for the rest of the character's life, the treatments simply allow the character to still live a normal life.

    Jon, you’re not playing in the most efficient manner possible. You don’t understand a lot of the mechanics. You completely miss quite a few things going on.
    But you know what? That’s FINE. Sure you should try and make sure to understand the mechanics, but you don’t need to play this game in the best way possible. Everyone screaming advice at you to do this, that, or the other thing seem to forget about what makes this game so great. It’s a STORY! It’s about your family growing and interacting with all the others in medieval Europe. It’s about the plots, the romances, the horrors, the wars, the world that emerges around these people you control. Playing things efficiently with breeding programs, casually murdering anyone that annoys you, and expanding all the time has been done so many times on other channels. They’re great, obviously, but they’re not YOU.
    So make sure you correct any misunderstandings, but other than that, HAVE FUN. We’ll love watching your story unfold.
    ...and pay attention because seriously, you’re much better in these videos, but you can miss a fair deal. Like the border between the Welsh Kingdoms.

As it's mercenaries you were about to disband though, you don't actually care about their lives,so it would have been a good idea to order the assault.

    Loving the series! Just a heads up - cities (mayors) make more money than they do levies; baronies/counties/duchies (nobles) generate more (and better quality) levies than they do money - should definitely swing to levy oriented obligations for nobles and tax oriented obligations for cities!
    (Churches are a blend of taxes and levies, though if they like the pope more than you they'll send the tax to him)

    • @verdiss7487
      @verdiss7487 Před 6 lety +6

      In my opinion, vassal levies never really make much of a difference. In the early game, it's almost always your personal levies that make up 90% of your army. Later in the game, you are either fighting small realms where your large personal levy can crush them without the need to bother your vassals, or you are fighting huge empires where your retinues will still be able to pick up the slack. In my WC a few patches ago, I pretty much never found myself raising vassal levies outside of a few early defensive wars.
      As such, it generally makes more sense to push noble obligations in favor of taxes, so you can reinvest that money into building useful things like barracks and stables in your own land instead of the gold going to buy baroness humfilda the triple chinned a new necklace or whatever vassals seem to waste money on.

    A way you can join England again which is actually pretty cheeky is to go to the factions tab, start the independence faction and just with yourself send the ultimatum go into an Independence war with Norway, but since you are not in Scandinavia it will take a while for Norway to get there. So while they are sending forces to you immediately go to the Ruler of England and ask to be a vassal and doing so will end the independence war and you will be part of England again, but be warned the King of England can reject your offer so you are basically screwed in the Independence war. So use this method at your own risk.

    Under Gavelkind, titles you hold are split (mostly) evenly amongst your children. If you have any male heirs, they are the only inheritors; if you have only daughters, then they split the realm. If you have only a single top tier title for your realm (e.g. for your realm, a duchy title), your children will effectively only split the lower tier titles (e.g., the counties). However, the capital duchy and counties always go to your direct heir. The exception to this is if a child is forced into a bishopric (or to take the vows, I think, though I don’t have Sons of Abraham so cannot confirm), they cannot inherit.
    The title loss notification is because your next avatar will lose direct control of the title, in this case to another member of your dynasty.

  • @Kaiimei
    @Kaiimei Před 6 lety +6

    I love this.
    A vassal count of a Duke owes another Duke a favor, so that Duke can then force him to aid in a plot to remove the current Duke, and claim his lands. Since that Vassal Count is a Chancellor for the Duke, he could potentially starve the Duke of money, so when the plot is set in motion, the Duke will not be able to fund his armies, and will not be able to actually fight off the attack from the enemy Duke. Thus, simply having a favor of a Chancellor, and using that to starve a Duke of money whilst you fabricate a claim on that Dukes lands, means you could stop him from being able to afford a mercenary band to aid him, and his own levies would leave him after he fails to pay them, thus making capturing his land possible simply with a single favor, and a little bit of claim fabrication. It's like 4d chess. Thinking 5 steps ahead, whilst still driving towards the chess game. The game hasn't even started yet and you're already plotting out how to win that land.
    I love CK2. I know it wouldn't work that way, but if it did it'd be awesome.

    Jon, the warning about inheritance doesn't mean Glamorgan will be leaving the realm when you die. Simply put, it means it will no longer be under your direct control at that point. Because you have 2 sons and gavelkind inheritance, Jon (the primary heir) will gain the Duchy title as well as the De Jure heartlands (Cornwall and Devon) while your second son will become a vassal of Jon as the Count of Glamorgan. It's still in your realm, but it's not a part of your demesne. In fact, the last thing you need is another son, as you would then "lose" Devon as well.

      Not really useful for large realms which will pull most of their armies from their vassals under them. You could use the Ledger for an accurate measure, or the Realm View button on the character tab to have a closer idea. There are also huge modifiers, like demesne size, martial score, vassal opinion and even decisions that can completely screw up the expected size/actual size ratio of a character's army.

    While your reasoning concerning the need to have an attacking force that outnumbers the defenders to be able to siege is correct, there is one factor you are ignoring. The levy constitutes the men that can be called to arms to go out and fight on that place, the garrison are the guys who stay to hold the fort. Meaning you dont really need to outnumber garrison + levy, because most of the time you will meet the levy on the battlefield, leaving only the garrison to defend the province. What that means is you didnt actually need mercs to invade that welsh province.

      Stellaris is by far the easiest PDX game to just "pick up and play", due to the way it gets more complex with time. CK2, EU4 and Victoria2 are infamous for throwing you right into the action from the start. The mechanical complexity is there from day one, which makes them much harder to learn. Which is why there is no shame in watching a video tutorial. Arumba's tutorial series might be old (its from 2014), meaning many expansions ago, but it still succeds in teaching the basics, which are the most important part.

    The council becomes discontent after a succession or after the ruler goes against the councils wishes. It has nothing to do with the voting habits of the counselors.
    You can declare war on any vassal of your liege, regardless of their rank.
    Humiliation doesn't mean losing a war, it means the character was imprisoned and their captor chose to humiliate them as punishment.
    The levies raised by your liege are totally separate from the levies you see under the holding.
    And please just use the realm mapmode, especially now that you're not a vassal of England.

The computer will raise troops to fight you meaning you can fight them on the battle field now the fort defenders are the only ones left to defend. getting frustrated at successions I didn't expect and being confused as to why I haven't "reigned for 10 years"
    also to clarify "title loss on succession" it just means the character you become when you die wont get that particular title, yes you know this now but one more thing.
    You might not be ruling your brother once it happens, since glamorgan is not de jure part of your duchy, he could end up separate from you but under norway still.
    you're doing perfectly fine mate, and you don't need any help, you got a solid hang of the fundamentals, what you can expect from 20 hours playtime, but there is so much to this game that you will keep learning as you play even when you hit 50 hours playtime.
