HISUIAN GOODRA just never FAINTS... • Pokemon Scarlet/Violet VGC Battles

- In this video, I try out a team built around Hisuan Goodra, one of the bulkiest Pokemon in the format! It's supported by Light Clay Grimmsnarl, which can set up Light Screen and Reflect, as well as Rillaboom, which can set up Grassy Terrain and allow Goodra to heal up at the end of each turn. The team also utilizes Landorus-T to Intimidate opposing teams as well as Urshifu and Heatran for consistent damage. With such a bulky core, it's incredibly difficult to KO Goodra easily!

Addressing two common questions I've seen in the comments:
1) The nature on Showdown was just a typo, it's supposed to be Careful nature, not Calm.
2) People have been asking about Shelter vs. Acid Armor since they do the same thing. Shelter's lower PP can actually be beneficial in the scenario where you're up in an end game against an Encore user. With Acid Armor, you'll be locked into the move for longer, making it easier for your opponent to win off the timer, whereas with Shelter, you'll break out of the lock sooner. It's honestly such a small thing and think it won't come up in 99.9%+ of games but you never know!
I appreciate the explanation. I'd love to see more of these comments in future vids
As a not pro builder any place you could fir a knock off on the team, like just getting rid of pads is like killing urshifus or the mon with the pads.
Wish I could play a casual game without seeing lando
Another reason why shelter is better is because it's its signature move and looks better.
..
*SPOILER WARNING*
Some comments regarding specific turns in this episode!
Game 2: I thought Heavy Slam was a KO onto Chien Pao without the critical hit, which is why I opted for that over Body Press (Heavy Slam does chip damage into a potential Basculegion/Gholdengo switch-in while also covering for Ghost Tera on Chien Pao). However, I did the calc afterwards and the crit *was* necessary there (0 Atk Goodra-Hisui Heavy Slam (60 BP) vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Chien-Pao: 84-98 (53.8 - 62.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO). Thus, Body Press that turn was the more optimal play to guarantee the KO onto Chien Pao.
Game 3: I went for Aqua Jet + Heavy Slam onto Mimikyu rather than Surging Strikes + Heavy Slam because I was worried about a potential Life Orb Shadow Sneak onto the Urshifu slot. A lot of Mimikyu opt for max HP/Attack EV investment so I figured I could get the KO with the double up. I could've been in some trouble if it were Babiri Mimikyu or max HP/Defense Mimikyu but I thought both of those would be fairly unlikely.
As you can see, lots to think about with this team! I just wanted to add some color to those turns since I rewatched the games & realize I didn't talk about those decisions specifically very much.
How is this comment posted 1 day ago if the video just went up
@@27TheJose Because he already had the video uploaded, he just didn't publish it to the subscribers, it can also be set automatically to upload a video at one hour and he can comment
yeah, one thing to remember is that hisuian goodra isn't actually all that heavy. While heavy slam is generally the best second attack on goodra, it's not because it's actually *good*. You're very rarely getting 120 BP on it, unlike someone like Ting-Lu.
@@SheffiTBbut it is stab. I dont think you can fish iron head flinches as hgoo is mostly going to move later. But i dont know. Just some quick thoughts.
According to the Team Builder, the Goodra is Calm, so the damage would have been even lower
Very drippy fit, Aaron. Also I've been loving Reg D. Feels like the wild west and I've been loving seeing all the different strats popping up everywhere
QOTD - It's a real breath of fresh air compared to reg C and team diversity is through the roof, even with all the prerelease testing people were doing on showdown. That being said, I still have a huge issue with Urshifu in particular. As a person who has played a pokemon with feint on it since launch, it's mind bending that a pokemon gets to do that for free with much stronger STAB moves while also singlehandedly invalidating screens, defense boosting moves, and stat drops like intimidate(unless you have shell armor of course). I'm hopeful that the format continues to be as varied as it currently is, playing against flutter chi-yu every game last reg became supremely uninteresting for me, but with the new prevalence of the chien-pao dnite ursh cores I'm worried we'll end up in the same boat as reg C.
Overall though I'm enjoying it a ton, and so many of the new tools introduced in reg D have made teambuilding a blast. This also feels like a relatively low pressure format for those of us aspiring competitors that aren't going to worlds and it's a great opportunity to diversify our skills and try new things. I've personally always been a tailroom player, but learning how to build and play balance has been really rewarding, and I can't wait to try out other team styles with all the new pokemon
HGoo has been the bane of my existence Season D!
This is why I always use flame orb Hariyama, as well as Tera ground gyarados
I taunt it
For me it was enamorus thundurus boosting the speed and sp attack
Man that shirt is spectacular!!! Thank you for all the videos you’ve been providing us, this season start is wild :)
A shirt for unrestrained summer fun!
A note on Goodra's spread: it should probably be Careful (-SpAtk, +SpDef), and I'd go with 252/4/252/0/+/0 which is super optimal because even without investments you get the SpDef bump at 187, and that 1 extra point in Atk could always be useful!
Love this mon, it's just so cool :)
I hope to see a sneasler focused team too. I love this mon so much
I love using Goodra. For me it's always a debate deciding which Tera type to give it. I like Water Tera + Sap Sipper so it'll only have 1 weakness.
What item do you opt for?
Maybe with Lightning Rod it has no weaknesses
@@GadielVaStarLightning Rod is an ability
Thank you so much for showing off a Hisuian Goodra team. I haven't done competitive stuff since SWSH and wanted to get back into it and really wanted a Hisuian Goodra team since I love it so much. But I'm so bad at team building, I couldn't even get anything off the ground and thought it might be a lost cause. Im glad someone made a team tho cause i dont care if Im not the one who made it, i just want to use this lovable snail
I’ve been running a team with Goodra-H paired with trick room. It’s quickly become a favorite Pokémon of mine. It’s the perfect late game Pokémon
I knew when you got beat by that Hisuan Goodra team that you would use a team featuring it! What an amazing Pokemon when used properly. Great video as always! Really like the daily uploads it's been my nightly ritual before bed this week haha.
I have been loving the content! It’s become part of my nightly routine 😂
I’m really loving this regulation and all the awesome content that’s coming from it, thank you 🙏🌸💕✨✌️
I've been looking forward to your videos on regulation d from the moment I heard about the rule set. You deliver every time
Thanks for all the vids man!
Keep up the content rate! This has been awesome 👍
I'm really enjoying these reg D videos. The new mons look like a lot of fun!
47:30 my favorite moment was clicking Fake Out + Max Airstream in the final game 😌
I enjoy the way you explain your thought process and decisions. And even during loses you explain what went wrong and what you could’ve done, a trait I need to learn 😂
in game 4, I think it's more likely the Urshifu had a Punching Glove than protective pads. It still prevents it from making contact, but it also boosts punch type moves by 10%, which Surging Strikes counts as.
The regulation d vids have been so exciting to watch 🎉
I cannot keep up with your Reg D output, your pace is blistering this week!
It is fun to see a mon that outlasts after a bunch of OHKO machines
Daily Cybertrong has honestly made my week. Loving the content!
hgoodra feels like a complete pokemon. the typing, the stats, abilities, move pool. makes duraludon look like a waffle toaster
You had me at Goodra + Grimmsnarl
Dripping so much content... Great stuff! 😃
Aaron saying Max Airstream instead of Tera Blast really took me back to swsh lol
Been loving your outfits lately! Entering your fashion killa era!
Congrats on 200k subs!
I'm so sad they didn't bring that Cacturne... Trick room sweeper probably makes sense but... I don't think I've ever seen a Cacturne used in a competitive context before.
i love that shirt - also thanks for the consistent great reg D content, can’t wait to see how you do at worlds
My current team is running Goodra! This is awesome!
LET'S GOOOO I love Hoodra screens so MUCH! Got me good results on ladder, I don't know that it'll still be amazing by the time regionals resume but I'm hoping I can still bring a version to Toronto
I like how whenever one of Pokemon from Legends: Arceus emits it's cry in a VGC match, it makes me want to play that game.
i've loved goodra for years and im so happy to se it finally triving
I love this team comp, I had a similar idea to run Goodra next to Rillaboom for that Fake Out/U-Turn goodness, but i chose to run Grassy Seed on Goodra for that instant +1. Rocky Helmet seems like it's the truth though, being able to chunk Urshifu like that is just beautiful
Love this channel!
Off topic, but I've been thinking about Scarf Gambit Ape. It is disruptive, killing important pokemon, but also, it instantly reduces the number of pokemon in the game to 3 on both sides.
This makes switching out harder, so it could have some potential uses in things like Perish Trap or even maybe something built around reducing opponents' stats.
I love Regulation D! It's a very nice change to Regulation C. I wasn't the biggest fan of the Treasures of Ruin since they're all Dark-type, which like the Tapus made an entire type much less viable, so I've been enjoying their reduced popularity. More importantly, I love the rapid uploads!
Thanks cybertron your vids are very enjoyable light fun with some great strategy
Goodra is one my all time favorites I was hoping it would be viable
We're gonna need a 5 hour ladder grind video, can't get enough of this
Friggin’ love your shirt omg lol
Looking extra dashing today sir
I wish I could rock a shirt like that! Looking dripped out there Aaron!
I am loving Reg D. Hisuian pokemon are all new to competitive, and even the older mons seem fresh because of tera so it's been a lot of fun
Love the shirt Aaron! Thank you for daily uploads :)
This upload streak is the gift that keeps giving.
Takin a min just to appreciate the quality and time that Cybertron has been setting aside just to upload such amazing teams and strategies for regulation D of S/V. Videos have been so good too! Keep it up Aaron
Aaron's instincts are so good that when he called out the Scarf Final Gambit Annihilape, I knew he'd be right because I've seen him make similar calls throughout Road to Ranked so many times. Amazing vid as always, and I love to see Goodra getting some love! Never thought it'd be so good this format, I'll definitely be trying it out for myself.
0-2 against Hisuan Goodra I think that I've seen, glad to see it today!
Salt cure helps a lot with those pesky snails 🙌
20:59 hey, he used my meme! So proud of The Hisuian Yrain going!
37:48 "thats a Cacturne!" exactly my reaction
Another cool team featured by the one and only Aaron Zheng!
I'm loving reg D so far. Such a breath of fresh air after Reg C. I ended up getting quite bored of reg C in the end so much so that I didn't even watch the NAIC streams. I've been using one of my favs G-Zapdos to get into masterball and loving it. 🙌🏼
Thanks for the great consistent videos Cybertron!
Hope you're doing ok, Aaron! Thanks for the content!
QOTD: Tried team building for my first time in SV around h-zoroark. I came to conclusion that I didnt like zororark competitively
Also thank you so much for keeping up the good content, ever since the ban list format of gen 8 I've been inspired into teambuilding and vgc by your content, SV was fairly scary to tackle as teratypes are a much bigger wildcard than dynamax but you still inspired me to get back to showdown's bulider
Currently taking a break from making my new team to farm money. Perfect timing for a new video
QotD: its been a lot more fun than i thought it would be! i was afraid i wouldnt get to participate in this reg at all due to not having PLA, but i kinda bit the bullet and just genned in mons honestly. i know thats frowned upon sometimes, but i wanted to at least see if i enjoyed this reg at all, and im glad i did, bc i do enjoy it. im loving the amount of variety we have access to, even if the power lvl of mons is naturally a bit higher, we can use A LOT of stuff now, which i didnt think would happen, i thought it would be more strict, and maybe it will be, time will tell. anywho, thanks for the vids as always
hyped to rent that
H Goodra is a mainstay of my team. Never considered Rocky Helmet over Leftovers but I want to try it out now
This mans stay goated
That battle theme is good
Does anyone know why at 44:07 Tera Blast is shown as "Super effective" even though it did not tera and normal is not effective against anything? Also the Tera-Type is Grass I believe, so even with that it would not be effective against Torqoal? Probably a bug?
Hey Aaron! I doubt it comes into play, but is there a reason for picking Shelter over Acid Armor for Goodra? Shelter has fewer PP and no other benefits that I’m aware of, but I’m sure it doesn’t matter that much, right?
It's a very small reason but the advantage of having less PP is to break out of Encore locks sooner!
@@CybertronVGC That's super smart! I hadn't considered that! Thanks for the explanation ☺
Qotd: Loving it, some tilting stuff out there but fun. Ive been waiting ti use hisuian mons for a while. I thought reg D would just add the hisui though
Lurantis shirt! Awesome.
Reminds me of the shell armor fire Tuttle that you featured on the channel back in SWSH but way better 😂
Your memory is so good man !
I just can’t believe this brand new format is the format for worlds! I don’t think we’re ready for how wild these teams are going to be. I’d love to see something super creative take it home.
Wheeee new cybertron video! Bye bye sleep schedule!! 😂
I did have a theory that shell armour would be viable with Urshifu running about. Glad to see the drippy boy doing things.
I use it in ou with assault vest, gooey, and pair it with uxie for screens, I one shot most flying and non bulky dragons with ice beam, chilling water lowers the threat of switch ins.
QOTD: Solid 8/10. It doesn't feel nearly as centralizing as reg C but we will see.
Would love to see a video on Zoroark sometime soon.
I have a team that feels pretty good. Got to 1600 on showdown and Masterball tier on in-game ladder if you wanna try 👉🏻👈🏻
Thanks for all the awesome videos Aaron, keep up the great work.
Just worked on my hgoodra team for like a few hours and just saw this pop up it's a sign
Love some goodra with my morning coffee ❤
aaron the kind of guy to pat himself on the back after a hard days work
Cybertron with another banger! 🙏🏽
This team is so fun to use
QOTD: Really enjoying it so far. Been running a similar team to this and got to the 1600s on Showdown which is the highest I've ever been. Will-o-wisp (sorry Aaron) Dragapult is an amazing complimentary piece, adding up some residual burn damage and making Goodra even more of a nightmare to break
Thanks Aaron
@cybertronVGC Don't care if you never read this but I love your upload schedule get your vids right when I'm getting ready to eat after a long day of work love you and love goodra really appreciate the content man. I wish you the best in all your future endeavors (been watching for about a year)
That's why Hisuian Goodra is my favorite pokemon😻💜💜💜
Shell Armor was really a dangerous choice.
5 uploads in 2 days?! You must be having fun with the new meta
I had a HGoodra body press in front of my specs Gholdengo. Hit him with trick and locked him into press without being able to switch. Felt good lol
QOTD: I reached Ultra Ball Tier today, while using your Ursaluna Cresselia Team and a Team centered around Hisui Arcanine. That was such a cool Moment.
Love the shirt dude
19:52 yes, it might not be shell armour! Those first 4 surging strike hits didn’t crit. But you never know: The fourth Tera Blast might. I chuckled.
MY BOI, GOOBER! I remember back when Wolfey kinda dismissed him but he was wrong! Goober is an unkillable beast
20:33 your screens did matter. Surging strikes ignores reflect usually because of the guaranteed crits, but with the shell armor you don’t get crit, so being a normal hit it is affected by reflect. Also your opponent fishing for a crit in that endgame is very funny because they already saw the surging strikes not crit the goodra, confirming the ability as shell armor, multiple times.
I’m running a special LandoI set and it has 43% ohko chance with earth power, guaranteed 2hko with sandsear storm after leftovers recovery onto hoodra
I was the last battle in this video! That rocky helmet Goodra got me good, I had no answer for it once I left Armarouge on the bench
Hey Aaron, did Malamar lose Topsy Turvy? It was such a great move against such setup Pokemon
I think contrary Malamar would do great in this format especially if it still has topsy turvy.
Unfortunately I don't own a copy of any gen 9 games (or a switch 😢) so can't test it out or don't even know if it's possible to obtain in Pokemon SV.
If it's possible please try it
As always great content
Much love❤
Not in gen 9.
@@cartergamegeek Oh. I thought with Home compatibility they would allow all mons to be transferred over. That's so sad they didn't allow Malamar
@@MiffedKitten Last few gens have mixed up the allowed stuff so because it was in gen 8 it's out of gen 9 for the moment.
I would of loved If to differentiate shelter and acid armor maybe having shelter increase your weight
So far been enjoying Reg D more than Reg C, I think having a wider pool of pokemon to choose from is always a good thing. But we'll see how it goes later on when doubt the meta will centralise more.
Is there a reason the Goodra is minus attack when it has Heavy Slam? It’s not like it has a special attack, so wouldn’t Careful be preferred over Calm?
That's just a mistake in my paste, the in-game version does indeed have Careful! It's updated in the description now, thanks for the catch
Anybody know what calc he's using at about 45:00? It looks super clean and I'm not the biggest fan of the pikalytics or showdown calcs.
nerd-of-now.github.io/NCP-VGC-Damage-Calculator/ here you go :)
I feel like I just played against this team on cart except instead of Grimm and rillaboom they had what I could only assume was specs cresselia and indeedee but the other 4 and items are exact same
At 44:09, why does it say that Heatran’s Normal Tera Blast is Super Effective on Fire Tera Torkoal? 🤔
