  • Gardening hobby came back with vengeance after I moved to Texas in April 2024. I am so glad that I am able to dig the soil and plant seeds. This particular hobby has been saving my life otherwise tough and sometimes weary. I seeded very popular common perennials and my favorite Asian vegetables. Today is May 5th, the Children's Day in Japan. I feel very happy gardening at this age of 75, behaving like a five-year-old boy. The perennials are very common popular varieties such as Columbines, Forget-Me-Not, Rudbeckia, Shasta Daisy, Echinacea, Lupin, Delphinium. Some of them are biennials. All of them grow this year without flowers, blossoming the second year. So, seeding must be done every year. The veggies I seeded are Daikon radish called "Minowase", Shanghai Bok Choy, Mizuna, Japanese Cucumber called "Aonaga Jibai", Cilantro, and Red Lettuce (Merlot). Also, I planted young seedlings of Tomatoes, Broccoli, Jalapeno pepper, and Zucchini. I also found already existing wild "Sweet Autumn Clematis", germinating from the next door's yard. I got some shrubs, namely, "White Chiffon" Rose Of Sharon, Two Butterfly Bushes (Miss Violet & Pugster Blue), Blue Mist Spirea (Caryopteris), Agastache, and Balloon Flower (Platycodon grandiflorus).
