She's got skills and she paying respect to the one and only. Oh and that guitarist.. dayum he's nice!
Ain’t no words to say it better than you did brother!
When you listen to the album stripped back like this you can really appreciate the crafting of the songs lyrically, melodically and arrangment wise. It just emphasises how great the songs all are individually, not to mention wonderful vocals and playing.
I hope D watches this and smiles... and creates a new masterpiece in the meantime
I find nothing disrespectfull in this video, except the comments. Actually I apreciate your guy's homage to D'angelo, and am enjoying your version very much!!
Exactly.
Who dares take on this project by D'Angelo...with only a guitar and solo voice. Who does this? Damn this is a cold interpurtation! Morgan is so gifted. She's daring and not afraid to stretch. I so applaud all she does. I saw the Joni Mitchell Blue interpurtation, too. Dear God...
i don't think people understand how much work this had to take! an ENTIRE ALBUM???? GEEZUS!!! love it!!! 66 people just don't like music!!! KEEP DOIN IT!!!
wow, I am very impressed........ great arrangement, wonderful voice, great guitarist.......so beautiful !!!
The vocals, the guitarist, just so well done.
God damn I almost slipped and fell on all the haterade some of y'all spilled on y'alls way in here. Keep spreading the beautiful music of D'Angelo to anyone who will listen. Love conquers hate. One
Amazing. How does one shed that fast with inaudible lyrics. Thank you Morgan. Anybody hating on this, hates on sunshine. #beaboveit
We have creative people who create, and then we have people who sit back and watch and copy................................. #culturevultures #swaggerjackers
I've never seen something so blatant. Usually white washing R&B is done slowly, this is rapid pace swaggerjacking, Shameless, and disgusting. The album is 2 months old for God sake. smh This is the most uncreative thing i've ever seen. Bitch write something of your own....
***** Who cares about subscribers when something this un original and karaoke like takes place with such a classic album. It's disgusting and people like you who makes excuses for it deserve that bullshit!! The album ia 2 months old you fucktard!!! That album is is called Black Messiah, not white chick from the valley singing in a coffee shops wanting people to feel sorry for her and sooth her feelings. subscribe on deez nuts !!!
Mustafa Ahmad You're a fucking racist. Go somewhere else and preach your bullshit.
lol@hating on youtube videos of covers.
hating on copy cats and hacks that lack skill and creativity and talent to write their own shit and covering an entire classic album that's only a month an a half old WRITE YOUR OWN SHIT BE ORIGINAL!!!
She is the best female singer I know
Holy shit! I can't believe you guys just did that. The guitar arrangements and vocals are outta sight! Nice job. And now I can understand the lyrics to all those songs!
I appreciate "The Black Messiah" CD even more...and I give Morgan & the guitarist credit they're really good!!!
And yeah, Chris Rock brought me here. The podcast with Dave Chappelle, Q-Tip, Leonardi DiCaprio and Chris Rock. Real dope podcast. Rock mentioned this towards the end. Glad that he did.
+Fritz Graham Yea, JUST got finished listening to it, and instantly searched for this.
Fritz Graham what podcast was that ?
@@Miles849 Q Tip's Abstract Radio podcast on Apple Music, the audio used to be on CZcams a couple years ago
Found the video he mentions it at 1:02:07 czcams.com/video/K_ypSUj3nUw/video.html
I really like D'Angelo's new CD but believe it or not this cover made me like it even more. I miss CD's and albums when you can read the lyrics and credits. You have to be a huge fan to do a full cover and do it well. The guitar and vocals were on point. I read a comment where someone was criticizing it and calling it karaoke. Far from it in my opinion. I think D'angelo would be honored because they put so much work in it and they wouldn't have if it didn't strike a cord with them.
Smokey voice.
I still buy CDs, etc. no need to miss the good stuff...
She nailed that "Ain't that easy'!!
Oh wow...as I keep watching a lot of guitar videos on CZcams, the algorithms kept bringing me excerpts of a few of your videos. I didn't realize you guys had covered the whole Black Messiah Album. Much respect as it continues to confirm for me how special, unique, and magical the album was.
I REALLY LOVE, REALLY LOVE
The causal brilliance of this whole performance speaks for itself. My favourites here are 'Til Its Done (Tutu)' and 'Another Life', but I love the whole set! I'm so glad I found out about you and your music late last year. One of those moments when your heart affirms that you've stumbled upon something or someone very special. I just wanna thank you for sharing your gifts. Needless to say, i'm a fan. I really hope D'Angelo gets to see and hear this. I'm sure he'd be smiling on the inside just like I am now. Also much respect to Mr Doug Wamble and his fantastic playing!
that guy is a BADASS guitarist!
Chris Rock brought me here. AND I am glad he did. Thank you, Morgan James.
I can't express how awesome this is to me. I have both Black Messiah and Hunter (love the end track w/ Robert Glasper). I would buy this if it were put out as a cover album.
She's reading the lyrics. Something some people complaining about, not being able to understand him, should do.

In the context of today’s surge in the Black Lives Matter movement, I find this performance to be beautiful, enthralling and somehow very appropriate. We’ve indeed made progress haven’t we? Here’s a lady (who is not ethnic) manhandling material that is decidedly black in lyricism and verbal presentation. “1000 Deaths” is literally Black Jesus describing his emotions, sentiments and experiences during the march towards Calvary - in slang. ‘Well, that’s only when the spot gets blown, it’s war, that is the Lord - I won’t nut up when we up thick in the crunch...” Hey, I’m proud of the growing assembly of open-minded whites in our country, I’m proud to be black and I’m proud to be an American with compatriots like Morgan - and her ridiculously talented guitar player. Well done! Go ‘head!
regardless of whether y'all appreciate the interpretation or not, you gotta admire the fact that its the WHOLE ALBUM they covered...and in one day too
"This record cannot be covered in one song. It's an entire work, like a four movement symphony. You wouldn't go to an orchestra concert and just hear the first movement of Mahler's first would you? Morgan did proper respect to this work by performing it entire." That's pretty much it. This is art. You have to pay respects to it the right way. That's pretty much what she did. This makes sense @TrotTheBlackDog.
this just shows how great those songs are, they can be performed by just 2 people (with immense skill and talent, but still) and they sound just as amazing
I love it.
What a voice.
You get to really hear the depth of his lyrics through her singing. I mean this album was prophetic.
I really loved "Really Love". Don't listen to haters, you helped others to discover wonderful music.
Hi Morgan, respect. I've listened to the album so many times since it was released. I'm impressed that you got the songs down like that. On his version he enunciates very smokey. But, it's his style. You emoted the brilliance of his genius to his distorted authentic melodies. D'Angelo fuses so much Gospel and Jazz. I hear it in the way you both interpreted these numbers. Voodoo was great. But Black Messiah, is the icing. He would be honored. I appreciate your work Morgan. Thank you for contributing to what's good about authentic Black Music. D'Angelo has proven himself once again. I will listen to the album right after this again with even more appreciation for this man's genius. His words and music is important in this time. Hey you rocked Till it's Done. Peace Morgan. Oh by the way I loved your version of Prince's Call My Name.
Once again Morgan is outstanding. I think she could sing anything and make it sound great.
Great job Morgan and Doug!!! I'm a HUGE D'Angelo fan too (like you both) and, unlike some of the people here, am very comfortable with you spreading the words and vibes. It's good to see people appreciating such a great record, as much as I do (or more). Much love and thank you for having the courage to cover and share these masterpieces :D!
Hell yes!!! YOU go white gull!!!!!!! Love it!!!!
Beautiful job
What a homage! Absolutely sick! LOVE it.
There was loads of information on D'angelos song. Now that Morgans made it simple, i can go back to the original and REALLY understand it. D'angelo is a friggin genius.
THE GUITAR PLAYER IS FREAKING BALLER!!!!!!! A+
This is an amazing compliment to an amazing album. I Love this!
I sickens me to read some of your comments. Music is universal. The nerve of some of you making everything racial. These guys covered the whole album immaculately. The young lady has the voice of an angel. The young man can strum like he's being doing it since birth. Ignore the bigots, guys. Great job.
Adam Lacy they aren't musicians just people talking smack Lol. they couldn't carry a paper bag let alone a note no harm haters gonna hate.
Absolutely!!!!
amazing rendition... we need more of this kinda love outside of the music field ... when the aliens come ... we gonna have to band together against ET. lmao
@@thugzman7890 Yes, they have zero guts in person, and probably are weak and powerless in real life, so they use the anonymity of the internet to live a fantasy of being strong and powerful. Delusions of grandeur.
Got all the guts in the world and this ain't it... How can you take race out of content called Black Messiah? Did she help you understand the black mans life struggle and the context of "The Charade" any better? And she didnt help you understand the lyrics guys. Yall could have easily done that by listening to the album and reading the lyrics. Yall dont have to make people feel better than they are. This is ok, great musicianship but lack of complexity for the songs origin and she can't connect to the material no matter how hard she try. Yall just want to make a white lady feel better
Your rendition of Sugah Daddy is utterly sensational!!!
I keep coming back to this and loving it more and more each time. A sign of great artistry. Great covers!
WOW! That was fantastic! I've been listening to Black Messiah for well over a month now and the renditions here serve to showcase just how good these songs are. Great interpretation!!
For all those naysayers: Ray Charlies, Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, Satchmo, Coltrane, Miles to name but a few ALL DID COVERS!!. I dare you to say that their covers undermined their artistry through interpretation. For me, I think Morgan James and that excellent guitarist only serve to show how well written and classic these songs of D'Angelo are.. Great job! Really Beautiful!!
Hell, you could even argue that Miles COVERED Wayne Shorter for at least a quarter of his career..
YOU BETTER PLAY THAT GUITAR BOY!!! Jammin!
Morgan , you are simply the best !!!! Thanks for your voice, for your musicality. kisses
, very very nice miss James
I'm a HUGE D'Angelo fan, and I'm totally impressed! Ms. Morgan James I'm now a fan! I'm hoping that you continue this amazing work and follow your dreams! D'Angelo would be impressed as well I'm sure.
Great job dear Morgan, thank You, Recorded with respect and humbleness. I love it!!!
Doug Wamble, is Dope on that guitar, Great job!
I believe that you are an angel, Morgan James.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this. Had never heard of D'Angelo and now have great respect. James' medium works wonderss on me. Thank you D'Angelo !
Bless you young'ins for the sweet science you bring and the barriers you break. One thing we can all enjoy together is music. D is proud I am sure!!!
Great cover. Just amazing. Thank you.
Found my new artist to get me through life :-D
I dug this....like really....I dug the intimacy of just the guitarist (who is dope) and the vocals.
I read some of the ignorant comments pulling the race card calling them "culture vultures" and "Souless" and what not...
First of all IF they truly pulled a "culture vulture" move they wouldn't have mentioned D'angelo or the album, just the songs.
now yes I wouldn't be surprised if this got a lot of attention but these musicians DID NOT claim anything as their own!
They're covering a album they liked at the same time promoting D'angelo.
Thanks for posting this, again I dug this.
YOU Morgan James are so AWESOME!!
Y'all did a great job on this. I come back periodically to hear these versions
Quality!!
Morgan thank you again for sharing your voice.
Oh, my heavens! This was very ambitious, very surprising and very dope. I got goosebumps from "Really Love" and "Another Life". Both of you are ridiculously talented!
You are one of a kind. I can not get enough of watching you.
yeahhhh!!! this is like a subtitle to the original, your are great Morgan James, truly amazing you 2 did the whole album and the guitarist, both of you are incredible, love it alot thanks guys
This cover made me understand the lyrics salute to you because I was straining to learn the lyrics
I like the fact y’all did this
This is something else. Can’t wait to watch the whole thing.
Doug Wamble is pretty friggin' righteous though!
I love this performance!!!
It's no exagggeration to say Morgan James can cover any song in any genre . Out of a thousand songs, she will knock it out of the park 999 times.
oh my gosh..... those lyrics in Charade... wow. I never understood what D'Angelo was singing... great job thanks for doing this I'm sure you had blast
This is incredibly smooth and had a different vibe from d'angelo but still paid him respect. I'm a huge D'Angelo fan and this was beautiful. You should give him a call 🙏
Yep! Ditto on ya.
Bravo!! Outstanding covers of a fantastic album. Thanks for posting.
Without Morgan's stripped down versions of these songs, I would never have discovered D"Angelo's powerful lyrics and great melodies. He is brilliant, no doubt. Morgan brings his music and messages to those of us who have different musical tastes. That can not be a bad thing.
Covers are forms of compliments for an artist. What's that beef about? She's obviously a fan of his work. That simple. Huge D'angelo fan (and covers are mere covers nothing else)
Full album cover! Awesome!!!!! I need more stuff like this from the musicians of the world.
Brilliant!
You are incredible!
BOLD. Well done!
best cover performance I've seen in a long while, beautiful job.
Another Life is my favorite D song, and you guys did an incredible job. Sounds awesome!!!! The whole performance is amazing, and ambitious as hell. I admire your courage in even attempting this. Thank you!
Seems like I’m EXTREMELY late to the party but THANK YOU 2 MUCH FOR COVERING THIS ALBUM!! I don’t know what led you down this path but THIS IS AMAZING!! Vocals and guitar skills are off the charts!! I refuse to scroll further down to harsh criticisms that are talked about. This was a huge undertaking and you appreciated for it! BRAVISSIMO!!!!!
I am really a very big D’Angelo fan and this pure cover is really well done!!! It clearly shows the unique composition again
Muchas gracias Morgan!!! It just feels so good to listen to you!
So glad you guys have enough free time to work this out!! So awesome!!
Chirs Rock brought me here too. And this material is extremely difficult to cover. You guys did an amazing job! Honestly. Very cool.
25:31 Beautiful!! I love this track. Going to see D'Angelo in June!
I really love Morgan.
Wow 'Prayer' is really something else in this format, takes on a whole new sound. Incredible.
This is incredible! Love the album and this cover is so well put together with a lot of heart
Awesome. Love it!
I'll give her credit for making D'Angelo's lyrics understandable, but that guitar player is the real star of this video and his name should also be in the title.
underrated comment....i have no idea what he's saying on the whole album...probably listened to it 100 times
Such an amazing voice. Such great guitar accompanying. Morgan you are so incredibly accomplished. I think I Iike this even more than your later material. You both are amazing. Sugarh Daddy is off the hook. Till it's done (Tutu) is just amazing.
Came here because of Chris Rock!
+Mikey Schurr same here. haha
+Mikey Schurr Me 3!
Yup
Chris Rock?
When did Chris Rock mention this vid?
When I used to be married my wife and I went to the Kabuki and they set us down at one of those grill tables with a family we did not know. She had this thing that if you mix all the colors of every race together you will get purple. Me being a painter I'm pretty sure that's not true but that's what she believes. So she looks over at this man that is sitting next to her and says did you know that Jesus is purple. At the time it was very embarrassing yet her theology behind it is so spot-on. Then she looked him dead in the eye and said he's Japanese too. LMAO the man did not say anything back just gave her a strange look. Well what she was trying to say was Jesus Christ the son of the Living God loves every single race on the planet. And not only does he love every single race on the planet he loves the people that are hating on Morgan James and her guitar player he loves the people that are hating on the guitar player. Dang come to think of it he loves me. did you know that he even loves the refugees there at the border of Texas the women the children the strong-minded men the weak-minded men and even the terrorist that may be in the midst of them. There is two things that I need to know that will get me Buy in life 1 is I am not God. The other one is God loves everyone where the word everyone is the biggest word in the whole entire Bible. Yet he wishes for all men not just a certain color of man or certain race of men yet for all men to come to the true living knowledge of Jesus Christ. Now over the course of the last 2 years I have religiously listen to Morgan James to the point I have grown to love her and respect her and admire her and to tell you the truth I feel somewhat protective over her. However I will keep my comments to myself as to what I think about people that would talk smack on this beautiful young lady. Because after all God loves y'all too and wishes for y'all to come to the true living knowledge of Jesus Christ just like he does the people that think their Jesus is black and not white or Asian and not black or white or Indian and not white or black or Asian. Did I say that right? yeah as I read through the comments I noticed that someone gave a description that the Bible gives of Jesus. But yet let's just say for a moment we don't have a book that tells us his description let's just call him love and proceed on. Where love abounds there is freedom.
immense vocal from the hugely talented and gorgeous Ms James ! xx
Hats off to you both. Excellent singing and musicianship. I'm sure D'Angelo is very impressed of your acoustic version 👏👏👏. Peace ✌️ & love ❤️ from Ireland 🇮🇪 x x
Good on ya. Incredible !!
Thank you!! now I have wonderful music to listen while working tonight :)
