I never heard Mayer's album, but this is superb. There's something about the simple purity of a voice and guitar that returns a song to its original creation, so often obscured by elaborate productions. Thank you for this.

Thanks. This record is so well orchestrated. Like the D'Angelo record we did, I just tried to distill all the parts into one thing as best I could, picking and choosing what sounded best. We did this on pretty short notice, and it'd been a long time since I'd listened to this, although when it came out in 2006, I devoured it daily. Good records don't leave your bloodstream...

so versatile. Very few can stand on a Broadway stage and rip out those vocals and hold a whole room AND sit on a couch and quietly sing jazzy bits like this. Also, guitar player is great. Saw him on the Dear Prudence duet w/ Haley, great arrangements, great playing, nice harmonies. Morgan is one my favorites for sure.
