- Qaanaaq is the second most northernly permanent human settlement on planet earth. Half of the year the town is locked in ice and complete darkness. So far removed from the rest of society, this community is highly dependent upon and in touch with the ice, land and wildlife. They are deeply entrenched in the Arctic ecosystems.
I was perusing google Earth and randomly came across this place. I googled it and brought me to this video. I'm so fascinated by the location and would like to go here someday.
Same here!
Same here
Listening to this guy has me pretty jealous. Hes like, "I used to just hunt for a living, then I tried fishing, this year Im doing a bit of both" Sounds pretty badass.
I found this town by just randomly scrolling through google maps and found this lol

Yes, it is the world's northernmost palindrome.
It was called Thule until recently.
@@johnb6723 Thule is a Roman name
this was a good video.
I only got to Uppnarvik in 1990. I've sold my photos of the ice, which has funded my retirement. Lol
Man...
wait what how!
Wow those pics must be awesome. Maybe you should try another shoot there to get the difference in glaciers, ice, etc
Siorapluk is mor northern but has 10x less population.
And Etah???
Abandoned since the 80's
I am almost certain that longyearbyen is somewhat farther north too

Earth's temperatures change..
0:39: Qaanaaq WASN'T settled 4000 yrs ago! The people lived further up North, but were FORCED to move within 48 hours to the area, that is today's Qaanaaq! In 1953! Get it right!!😡
it’s not that deep bro
Réal turk greenland
That is why we have suicide, drinking and sexual violence in Greenland...😰🤦♂️😖🇬🇱
why do people still living in this kind of place? There are no even fucking trees
US or some govt set up this base called Thule earlier but Thule people migrated from Alaska to here many 1000s of years ago and they adapted
why would someone ever live here lol
An increase is a good thing for agriculture. Many more die from cold than from heat.
At any rate climate is cyclical.
billions of people who live near the equator will die of famine
More die in Greenland in summer from boating mishaps😅.
Took something that could have been interesting and made it into a political propaganda video. Thanks for that.
Utter nonsense. Your ideology means that if you look at a reality that is not in accord with how you think it should be then you call it propaganda.
get rid of your government politicians, and get out of the EU
What do they care about the EU? It's not like they have an immigration problem in northernmost greenland. They care only about hunting and their own community. In fact the EU is the global leader for reducing carbon emissions so considering that their sea ice is melting, which impacts their hunt, they are probably pro-EU.
@@EzioAuditoreDaFirenze99 you should check out Tony Heller's channel.
Greenland isn’t in the EU you doofus
Maybe the US should buy Greenland. We love hunting.
Greenland cannot be bought og sold by anyone, as it belongs to the inuit Greenlanders.
@@aarhusnord everyone has a price

u mean conquer it?
USA sold the Kangerlussuaq airport for 1$ so that they can always use their former airforce base. I was there last year. But Greenland is part of kingdom of Denmark and they won the case in international court over Norway for the northeast part
