I wonder if they do have to occasionally test that it's still working? Obviously they'd have to clear with all involved that it's just a drill to ensure that line of communication is still working so nobody does a Colbert and craps themselves when it rings but I'd imagine it has to be checked every now and then?

Fun fact, Canada did have nuclear weapons for a while. Technically they were "on loan" from the US, so we could deny that Canada "owned" any nukes. They were hosted on bases in Quebec and Ontario. Then in the 1980s we decided (as far as is publicly known) to become a nuclear weapons free country. Another fun fact is that the northernmost early detection base for the joint USA-Canada North American Air Defence is actually in Canada; it's called Alert Base and is further north than Thule.

So, now what's probably in the ICMOC/IMWOC room? Is it a storage cabin for thermal underwear, does it have to do with oceanic surveillance, or is it the secret center of the International Cabal of Marine and Offshore Constipation?
No theories on aliens, please, Stephen has made plenty already and I'm satisfied on that front.

Currently TDY to Pituffik Space Base, formally Thule Air Base. I crawled around in the Minuteman missile silos, dipped my feet in the Arctic Ocean, and climbed Dundas mountain. No trees, no shrubs, no grass, just rocks and ice. This place in unlike any other place on earth.

Thank you, "missiles targeting Ottawa" was enough to properly wake me up! :D (Moved to the outskirts of the city this summer and they had to test their EAS one day after missiles landed in Poland. I did not know about the test. Phone started screaming in an online exam and yes, I was legitimately scared!)
