    My airbag light on my 2010 Rogue had been flashing for almost two months. When I took it in for oil change and tire rotation, the mechanic checked it and much to my dismay, he told me that two codes came up that indicated the airbag module was open and to see if it would be covered under the warranty because it's $1,000 to fix it. Nissan's warranty includes the airbags as part of the drive train and my mileage exceeded the warranty. I tried my extended warranty company and they don't cover airbags. I did a little Google search, found this fix, did it 10 mins ago and VOILA!!!! It's fixed!! No more blinking light!! I'm so happy that I had to share! :-D

    I went through and did it twice. The first cycle and the flashing slowed down, so I did another cycle and the flashing stopped.

  • @clonard
    @clonard Před 10 lety +2

    This does indeed work. Tried it out myself recently, but after a couple of days it started flashing again. I think this method only works to mask the problem you are having with the airbag. And doesn't actually fix the problem. I think it is best to bring your car to a trusted repair center, and have it looked at by a professional mechanic in my opinion.

    • @CharlieAtkins
      @CharlieAtkins Před 10 lety +1

      It's not a "Fix" because nothing was done to repair the SRS system! This action with the key puts the system into the "Diagnosis mode" and if you do it a second time it's "Clears the codes" that are in the system, so if you take it to a mechanic, be sure the warning light is back to flashing so the mechanic can diagnose the problem and make the necessary repair to put the light out for good!

    • @clonard
      @clonard Před 10 lety

      Charlie Atkins My thoughts exactly. No use hiding an issue. Especially to do with a car.

    • @spazotis
      @spazotis Před 9 lety

      Charlie Atkins dont worry charlie...these people are the suckers who pay for expensive repairs when they could do it themselves...if there was something really wrong the code wouldnt clear or it would show up again

    • @pepperjackshack2439
      @pepperjackshack2439 Před 9 lety

      I mean for me, I had to reset this light because I turned my car on when I had the air bag switch cluster unplugged doing a car stereo install (my car has a key you can use to turn the air bag on or off) so since there is really no issue with my bags this video could come in handy to resolve a problem similar to this situation

    • @XiseTK
      @XiseTK Před 9 lety

      spazotis Until you get into an accident and your airbag doesn't deploy because you though putting your airbag module into test mode was a good idea because the flashy light went away. Maybe it is flashing for a reason...ever think of that? So the "sucker" who paid to have his SRS system repaired so that it functions head on collisions you, his brains will remain not splattered all over the dashboard and there will be one less dumbass on the road.

    Today is saturday, April 25/2020
    I have a Nissan Altima 2002
    At first I tried to do it following the instructions, but the keys were not completely removed from the ignition, I did it 5 times and nothing happened.
    At that I thought and said: I think I have to take the key completely out of the ignition.
    So I did it again and the light went out.
    I am now very happy thanks to your video, it works and you saved me a few dollars.

    I would recommend it is better to take the car to your mechanic to do a diagnostic check. After all, you might potentially have problem with the moduel of the airbag and it might not deploy when it should be.

    Why was reason that the airbag light came ON in the first place? I too, have a 2007 Frontier and had low-speed front-end accident. Airbags were not deployed, but the passenger seat belt tensioner deployed. It is an explosive device that tensions the
    belt, one use only and I replaced the seat belt. Ever since that low-speed front-end accident 4-years ago, the warning light stayed ON.

    Thanks It briefly worked for a 2008 PONTIAC G6 GT. Mine was tricky. It wasn’t a wait until the light blinks for me. When turning the key the airbag light blinks 5 times constantly. I had to immediately turn the key off after the first blink. My car was involved in a collision so the airbag light keeps coming back on. I’ll have to take it to my mechanic.

  • @nattydave3727
    @nattydave3727 Před 10 lety +4

    A flashing airbag light means an intermittent problem with the SRS system. When you do the trick with your key it just tells the computer : I have resolve the problem, please check if its OK.
    The computer ( BCM ) will do several test when you will drive the vehicule and if it detect again the problem, the light will come back.
    ( Most of the time, its some loose connectors or something similar )

    • @CharlieAtkins
      @CharlieAtkins Před 10 lety

      @ Dave, On a Nissan/Infiniti vehicles, a Flashing SRS indicator means there is a code stored in the SRS Diagnostic Module, it may or may not be intermittent. The SRS system self test is initiated whenever the key is turned to the ignition on position, the vehicle does not need to be driven.
      NOTE: The BCM (Body Control Module) controls functions of the body systems- lights, wipers, windows, door locks,etc...

      I know why it started blinking, had the drivers seat out when I was replacing the blower fan, powered the car up before putting the seat back in to check that the new fan was working, that threw the alarm since the car didn't see the drivers seat bag, once I put the seat back the alarm was already there, been a week or so, light stayed off

    Can confirm it does work! My brain can’t leave it at that though lol. WHY does it work? In my instance, the car lost power for a short time then the light came on when the car was powered again. So I assume the flashing air bag light was a lost communication code (my scanner doesn’t read airbag modules so I didn’t even try). So does this work because the car needs to turn off and on and pass the communication “test” a certain number of times before it moves the lost com code to history instead of active?

  • @CharlieAtkins
    @CharlieAtkins Před 10 lety +4

    This is called "putting the system into diagnosis mode"
    1. The air bag light should come ON for about 7 seconds. As soon at the airbag light goes out, turn the ignition switch OFF right away (within 1 second after the SRS light goes OFF). Wait at least 3 seconds and turn the key back ON. Wait for the airbag light to go out and as soon at the airbag light goes out, turn the ignition switch OFF right away again. Wait at least 3 seconds and turn the key back ON. Wait for the airbag light to go out and as soon at the airbag light goes out, turn the ignition switch OFF right away again. Wait at least 3 seconds and turn the key back ON and watch the airbag light flashing codes.
    2. If getting a no malfunction detected code in diagnosis mode (airbag light flashing 3 seconds ON and 2 seconds OFF repeating), clear codes by repeating the procedure in step 1.
    If the airbag control unit detects a malfunction, the airbag light will come ON for 7 seconds and then flash fast (about every 0.5 seconds) indicating a malfunction. You need to go into diagnosis mode to check codes manually. Even if the problem is intermittent and the problem is not there right now, the airbag light will still flash fast until you go into diagnosis mode and check codes.
