A Build 10 years in the making. Today we're making aluminum crossbow cams using wood working tools, in a way that doesn't drive you to drink.

Yes you can use woodworking tools on aluminum. But do you know you can also use them on mild steel? (It's risky but you can) Like using an old saw blade on a circular miter saw to cut mild steel tubing. (eye protection recommended)

As a machinist, I'm thoroughly impressed with the results you were able to achieve with your methods. And it was very entertaining to watch your journey learning to work with aluminium! I'm a machinist as well and I definitely agree, it's funny to hear what other people consider tight tolerances when you're used to precision work, but it was definitely precise enough and look super good!

I am a production CNC machinist who works mostly with aluminum. It's really cool to see you get such good results without having CNC machine tools to work with.

Wow cool process! Really like the creativity, shows you can make really advanced parts if you just scramble the brain enough! One thing though is when tapping threads, you should really only tap the holes in the "main cam", and have larger holes in the part you are screwing down. Clearance holes with no threads in them (screw goes straight through). When you tap both parts like in the vid you will not be able to get any clamping force between the parts, the screw will only tighten in the top part. Greetings.

Routers are so very often slept on as home shop machine tools. One can *really* replicate some pretty nice CNC machining with a router, they're pretty great.

Been a machinist for two years now and watching you go through all the lessons Ive learned in just a single video. My man
Those inside cuts in there are where a CNC router, or mill, comes in super handy! You could cut the whole thing out with a CNC router/mill! You just have to make sure that if you go with a CNC router (instead of a mill) you take it super easy, because they generally are flimsy machines that will chatter a bunch, depending on how big the machine is and its construction. It also helps to have some machine oil to lube the cuts - and use a carbide bit. Then you can sit back and let it do all the hard work for you.

I dont know if you ever will get a tig welder to weld aluminum, but if you do, remember my number one rule.... Aluminum is a tsundere. You have to put a lot of heat at the start and wean it off at the end.

I used to work on aluminum a lot back in the day when I worked for a gunsmith. Mostly making CNC/Lathed parts for precision rifles, but what we used for burrs was just an old shop pocket knife. Think it was a Case brand. Worked like a charm, but we were working on aluminum slabs maybe half the size of a domino.

My minds kind of blown right now. I started thinking of all the things I can use this method for to make (with woodworking and 3d printing tools I already have) and it's honestly giving me a bit of a crisis how cheap this works out versus paying for custom work and also not having to pay for a whole run of a custom item. So you mean to tell me I can finally make durable throttle linkages that look good and are cheap without going to a junkyard? That one thing is massive to me and I've had easily a dozen other use-cases come to mind during the video. Can't thank you enough
