crazy thing about Naruto is that Gaara's backstory is super sad, yet I wouldn't even put it in the top 5 saddest backstories from this anime... that's how messed up/amazing this show is
I rewatched Naruto with a friend who had not seen it and man it was so painful at this part. Especially with the little finger innuendo prolonging it, it was just so bad lol.
The thing is the fight itself was top tier especially this early in the series but the reputation it’s left behind on the community has been negative simply because of that scene

I never realized the people killed for the reanimation for the 1st and 2nd hokage was the two sound village kids. The one that lost to Shikamaru in the first round and the other who got their arms broken by Sasuke. 😕

just to clear up a misconception, substitution jutsu isnt automatically a log, you swap yourself with a near object, since they are mostly surrounded by trees they swap themselves with logs, but we have seen other kinds, like Orochimaru and Sarutobi both used mud since they were standing on the ground, Naruto swapped Moegi when she got kidnapped by transformed Iruka with a scarecrow, during the bell test Kakashi simply swapped with one of Naruto's clones, there are plenty of variants :)
Glad you guys are flying through this and sticking it through! naruto part 1 may have aged and is definitely a lot slower but Shippuden is timeless and makes you enjoy part 1 much more on a rewatch! plus the end of part 1 is goated!!
Anime changed so much during these years, when we were children we watched these things normally... it made me laugh when he said "I can't believe children watched this"😅😅😅....before there was not as much censorship as there is today... ...those of us who have been watching anime since the 90s grew up with uncensored anime and that's why we got used to it...and frankly in Naruto I don't know who has the saddest past because being a world of Ninjas and wars, everyone has a very bad past😔😔😔

Naruto has a way of making you feel for its characters. It has a lot of light-hearted moments, it makes you forget that this is a world that's been ravaged by wars and shinobi aren't all these colorful characters with cool abilities. Some of them are very much just human weapons living the consequences of the world that's been left to them from previous generations. Cannon may be a reck after the Gaara flashback concludes. It really is one of the more heartbreaking backstories of part one.
On Gaara's makeup, there's a stuff called as "kohl" which is pretty common to be used in certain religions or certain communities across all ages. I think this could it that.

Studio Pierrot ruined sakura. She was never like this in the manga and Sasuke was also more obvious that he also had a crush on her as well. The studio that animated this series took a lot of scenes away from them and changed sakuras dialogue

And late shippuden at that. If you want the spoiler, just use the Naruto wiki on "Shiki Fuin" and the first few sentences should clear up why the Kyuubi is still around. Gaara's eyes are black because of the seal he bears and what it contains. He is unable to sleep. Honest it takes Hiruzen Sarutobi so long to die, and as the story goes on yall will eventually hate him. As more is revealed you'll see he was just a foolish old man after he took the hokage hat back.
Chidori and Lighting Blade are not the same. Chidori is like the basic form of the jutsu that Kakashi first developed and Lighting Blade is a perfected version of the jutsu, in japanese is called "Raikiri".
I could never rewat h the old naruto episodes. They are so outdated, i don't have patience anymore as an adult to watch these boring slow panels, them staring at each other for 20 minutes, the thousands of filler, i hate filler. I had time for it when i was in highschool but now i cannot stand this old outdated style of anime😂 so glad that newer anime have better animation, better written stories and straight to the point, no filler.

It is painted. That is a Sand Village custom. Even Temari and Kankurou paint their eyes and face. You will explicitly see that in Shippuuden episodes.
