  • I'll show you how I make rolled handles with fabric and also with vinyl.
I used vinyl tubing from the hardware store in two different sizes:
3/16" and 5/16" but you can use any size you want to, just adjust the fabric or vinyl sizes.
    3/16" vinyl tubing: amzn.to/3mOKEPy
    5/16" Vinyl tubing : amzn.to/3aNn6YG
    Fabric: Ruby Star Society (2021)
    Vinyl: White Moonglow here sewhungryhippi...
Santorini Tote pattern (I omitted the zipper pockets inside and out) sewhungryhippi...
Chrome Universal size 80 needle: sewhungryhippi...
Here's my FREE Vinyl sewing guide: sewhungryhippi...

Thank you! Finally something that I actually need! So many sewing channels keep showing the same thing over and over again, not bothering to see that youtube is already inundated with that particular tutorial already. Blessings! p.s. love those curtains! So pretty!

Great tutorial. Thank you so much. Thinking I’d wanna add peltex to the bottom tab for added strength.

I couldn't quite see the end of your tubing, but if your bevel the edge it pushes through much smoother. Thank you for this video. It was very helpful for me.

Thanks so much for this demo!! You always have such great ideas! Doing a Santorini (my favorite bag to make) with these handles changes the looks and makes a new bag with the same pattern! ❤️❤️❤️

They both look great & would add a professional look to any bag. I was thinking Foley cath, lol 😆 when you were inserting the tubing. Thanks for sharing this!

Thank you - great tutorial! I’d venture that the vinyl tubing also is far more comfortable on the hands or forearms than rope.

Thanks Ruth- it's pretty easy! :) The smaller tubing is easier to push through, if you want to dip into it.

I’d think a zipper foot with the needle in the far right position would be very handy for sewing that narrow seam.

Sure do it! My foot is pretty skinny so it worked for me this way.

Love this...& I re-watch your tutorials over and over and over! I did the fabric/tubing ones on first try and really like them, except I wasn't able to finish off attaching the backs by tubing ends very well...and your video kinda skipped over that part, didn't see how yours were finished off on back lol. Thanks for all your help. ...and looks like vinyl variation has interfacing on it....if so, type?

Natalie, have you ever used the soft rope for inserting into the fabric tube to make handles? I believe I've seen it possibly at a sewing store before. Just curious.

    • @SewHungryHippie
      @SewHungryHippie  Před 2 lety

I have not, but I bet it could work - just might need more rangling through the tube - use a saftey pin to pull through or something. The vinyl tubing just slides easily through. :D
