God bless you Mayoor. I am 71 yrs old. You reminded me of my youthful days ( 1967 - 69) when I learnt Hindustani Shastreeya Sangeet in Govt. Music College, at Hyderabad. And Yaman Raag is my passionate Raaga. Its such a powerful melodious raag that the singer's soul instantly and effortlessly gets connected to Super Soul ( Almight God). And the singer joyfully floats in the divine blissful moments not only during the entire session of the song but also few moments thereafterwards. What a nice tutorial on Aaj jane ki zid na karo. Incidentally, I took singing lessons from composer of this very song, Janab Sohal Rana of Pakistan in Canada, for one year in 2014-2015, as a beginner at zero level. My dear Mayoorbhai, koti koti pranam. I am in Bangalore, 73 years old. We have senior citizens club and it has a sangeet sandhya wing having concert on 2nd and 4th Friday evening from 4.30 pm to 7.30 pm i used to attend from the inception of the sangeet sandhya. I was ignited by many singers singing melodiously and motivated and inspired by them that i should also start singing. I was completely 0 as far as singing is concerned. But with the help of youtube videos i used to rehearse mostly devotional songs in sanskrit, kannada, telugu, tamil, gujarati and the renderings of these devotional songs are appreciated by the senior citizens. i wanted to present a gazal song. the first gazal i rendered was chupke chupke rat din by Gulam Ali Saheb. practised it from youtube. . I am now practising the song aaj jaane ki zid na karo and during youtube search i came across your channel. it was indeed for me potable water found in a large desert, quenching the thirst of a weary thirsty traveller. may god endow you and your family with all the good things for doing this beneovelent service to humanity. Transliteration:
sāhityasaṅgītakalāvihīnaḥ
sākṣātpaśuḥ pucchaviṣāṇahīnaḥ ।
tṛṇaṃ na khādannapi jīvamānaḥ
tadbhāgadheyaṃ paramaṃ paśūnām ॥
- nītiśataka
Meaning of the subhAShita:
He who is devoid of (the knowledge of) literary compositions, music/melody or art forms, is an embodiment of an animal without a tail and horns. The animals are fortunate that he survives without eating up the grass (of their share)!
Commentary:
The poet opines that those devoid of knowledge of literature, scriptures or a flair for music and other art forms (vidyā in short) is as good as an animal. He just falls short on the faculties of a tail and horns! :). The poet further says that the real animals should be thankful that such a human being doesn't consume grass from their share of food!
The essence of this is the fact that a human being needs to not only be appreciative of different art forms but should also value learning of all forms. Vidyā (knowledge) is one faculty that sets humans apart from animals. If that is not valued, isn't he the same as animals?
Knowledge is the food for the soul! Feed the soul with healthy food in heavenly portions :).
