So, I prayed
But you weren't listening
Making miracles?
So, I begged
But you were far away
Saving souls perhaps?
So, I screamed
But she was very small
And you have worlds to mend
So, she died
And you were glorious
But you were somewhere else
You were somewhere else
If you are my shepherd
Then I'm lost and no one can find me
If you are my saviour
Then I'm dead and no one can help me
If you are my glory
Then I'm sick and no one can cure me
If you light my darkness
Then I'm blind and no one can see me
If you are my father
Then love lies abandoned and bleeding
If you are my comfort
Then nightmares are real and deceiving
If you are my answer
Then I must have asked the wrong question
I'd spit on your heaven
If I could find one to believe in
Brilliant song & powerful lyrics
Just got back from the Portland show. Words are not enough for this man and his band. A Prayer...was just amazing live. This version is pretty damn close to the live sound.
Excellent video. Superb editing
WOW NUMANIZED to feel the best thing ever
EPIC and incredible MOVING... to tears.... FEELING HIS/THEIR PAIN 🙏🙏🙏 MY GOD 🙏🙏🙏
Thus is one of the most beautiful songs. I feel like I could fly when I listen to it.
brilliant.
This song just hits so hard. So much feeling its haunting. I grew up with the music of Gary Numan. This is one song that is definitely staying with me. 💜 x
This song hits home. So much feeling😢
A song with some of the most personal and emotional lyrics that have ever resonated my ear drums! This song carries on so many emotional waves, they could cover all the oceans of earth. Gary thank you for the ride!
My favourite numan track. This ranks as one of the top versions of this song. Well done
This has become and all time favourite of mine, it has changed and developed some much over the years and is brilliant live!
I saw live last year for the acoustics tour and met him before and after the show. He is amazing and I got on with him really well. Although I’ve been a fan since 1980. But a good experience.
This is a beautiful but very poignant song about gorgeous Gary and his wife Gemma losing their first baby bless them
No ,sweetheart, this song is about the New World Order and the end of times
@@rudelemos3361 oh I didnt know that babe
@@rudelemos3361I'm afraid it is about Gary and Gemma losing their baby following a course of IVF
@militantninja2491 I just met gary numan with his band after they opened for Ministry at the aragon in chicago.... I never heard this song til tonight and it touched me deeply.... he said he always ends his shows with this song... I wish I could post the pictures I just took with him...love and respect to Cesar and Paul his bassist and guitarist they were also incredible tonight
This is by far the closest to perfection
Very clean and fills are amazing
I saw Gary Numan in 1980 for the 'Teletour'. I followed his music for several albums but through Berserker and The Fury, I became more of an 'observer' as his music went off on tangents. Watching his creative journey without radio through the late 90's was astonishing but he kept putting out albums. Then finally seeing his perseverance pay off with the resurgence through samples on some chart- topping music + new fans discovering his work through recognition re-ignited him.
I was one of the lucky ones to be part of his "1,000th show" run at the Electric Ballroom. He performed "A Prayer For The Unborn".
The inspiration for the lyrics is highly personal, something that he has done well over the years, often with small, hidden messages through the words that are later revealed. The original version released in 2000 seems to draw from so many periods of his song-writing and weaves together several instinctive arrangements. Then how this version, 13 years later, melds together his earlier music with his latest journey. The synchronicity between synth and vocal even more layered, his original sonic soundscapes and a musical arrangements being given more depth.
Not only a masterpiece but a masterclass of creativity.
I agree with you I was a fan early on but I lost touch in the 90 early 2000 then saw him again after 34 yrs in Plymouth for the intruder tour!!!! Wow what a show then met his last year during the acoustics tour. Good man.
Fantastic
one word.classic.
This video goes so perfect with this song
Love this version
So cool. Really well done. I love it!
Brilliant video I think gary would love it great work!!!
Excellent. I prefer this to the original. Saw the great man perform this live last night
Definitely my favorite GN song of all time, this and Haunted. But this song live was amazing!!!
Awesome song ❤
I really love this song & compared it to the way my own father was to me. Of course I know Gary is blaming God for the loss of his first child. I suffered a complicated miscarriage that broke my heart & my partner turned cold toward me because of it. My dear mum lost her firstborn son, my precious older brother Shane after giving birth & him dying after an hour while my dad was off elsewhere. We never blamed God for this. The devil is in control of this world but thankfully we have a choice regarding our final destination. Looking forward to Gary's latest UK tour with my ticket already purchased
this is BEYOND.......Bravo PS!!
A masterpiece...
bellissima
this is great... would be nice to if you did one but for "lost" or "it will end here"
The 'studio' version of the live version I've always wanted. Thank you!!!
The version they perform live is the Andy Gray remix - it's the last track on disc 2 of Exposure.
@@AndrewKay it's a *version* of that mix, yes, but with much better production, his better(imo) modern vocals, and fleshed out
@@AndrewKay But that recording doesn't have the fuller version of the lyrics that he performs live (misses the last verse) so not quite.
I am 53 and the only Gary Numan song I know is Cars. This sounds super gothic, like the Ministry or Sisters of Mercy. Is all of his music like this?
His music from around 1990-now is very industrial metal, no longer synthwave. He's also the best live performer I've ever seen. I literally Just got out of a show where he opened for Ministry five minutes ago. He blew them away
godtastic
Just curious, where does this particular mix come from? It's similar to the Andy Gray remix but not exactly the same, and it doesn't quite sound like a live version either.
Have to be honest... have always preferred the "original" version on Pure.. rather than the "live" version.... the "Pure" version imho is more p0werful
I agree... Kinda. The mixing on it is laughably bad and makes it have real bad demo-version feels. But when you move past that and focus on the actual performances in it, especially the pain in Gary's voice that wasn't rehearsed over decades yet... Yeah, the original has so much more depth
Fantastic
