    To call Rex Brown a phenomenal bassist would be an understatement. Always had a great tone and held down that groove, especially while Dimebag would be soloing.

    The breakdown in Five Minutes Alone will always be the heaviest music I'll ever hear. No amount of machine gun beats and gurgling into the mic can top how simultaneously aggressive and confident that 15 seconds is.

    • @coltonpugh9669
      @coltonpugh9669 Před 2 lety +8

      I actually think the breakdown in One is the heaviest shit ever. But the idea behind our opinions are one in the same. I say this as a huge technical death metal fan haha. I agree that no amount of blast beats or growling can top how heavy both breakdowns are. 5 minutes alone is a serious contender for One though. I'm glad I saw this comment because those two songs are about as heavy as metal can possibly get.

    Know what, I'm gonna say it - Rex was/is truly one of the best metal bassists ever. Usually when you listen to isolated bass tracks in metal you think "huh, this doesn't really sound all that great on its own", but when you listen to Rex's isolated tracks, or along with drums like in this awesome video, you automatically adapt your "war face" and start headbanging like crazy. Dimebag is one of the best metal guitarist of all time, but people underestimate how much Rex added to Dimebag's live sound. I remember watching a live video while they were playing and Rex's bass cut out for a few seconds and you could hear the difference. Not taking anything away from Dimebag, absolutely not, just saying that it makes a big difference and it takes Dimebag's sound to a whole other level. Go check Art of Shredding from their 1990 HQ live performance, you can hear Rex's bass during Dime's solo and it's pretty insane what he is doing.
