  • Across the states of Jharkhand and West Bengal, women from rural and tribal communities are preserving the art of Kantha.
Kantha is a traditional form of embroidery that involves stitching old clothes over quilts with intricate designs and motifs. “Our only aim in making these is to leave behind an unforgettable legacy for future generations,” says Shivani Sardar, an artisan from Pragati Udyog Mahila Samiti, a Self-Help Group (SHG).
Today, these quilts, sarees, and other fabric items can be found at Johar Haat and Samvaad, platforms enabled by Tata Steel Foundation.
Discover the craftsmanship behind Kantha art that speaks volumes about our rich tribal heritage!
