- Welcome Gardeners. . . Today I am planting new perennials in my small garden, (Agapanthus, Lily Turf, Marigolds and Salvia) and will share a fun idea for a new corner in my back yard garden. ALSO. . . (this was such a surprise) It's 105 degrees in my garden and it's raining? hahaha That's California for ya! Beautiful looking garden and painted doors, they are the bees knees. We live in Ireland and have four agapanthus midnight blue and four agapanthus fireworks all in pots. We bring them in to a glasshouse for winter.
Oh my goodness, the fireworks agapanthus is definitely my favorite. I was going to get some of those, but didn’t have enough money when I went to the nursery, but I will definitely get the fireworks next time. That’s the one that is a combination of both blue and white right? In my opinion, that is definitely the bees knees. Hahaha thank you for stopping by. @@GardenHappy I bought one fireworks and one midnight blue in autumn 2020 and split them in half and in autumn 2022 I split them again making eight plants. I have been lucky so far that they have flowered every year so far.

That rain was such a surprise, it rained in the whole central valley and even up at Yosemite national Park. So crazy, but it was very nice at the same time. Hope you’re having an awesome day Torey! 👍❤️🥰Liz

Hey there happy Sunday. Thank you for taking the time to comment. I appreciate your kind words. I am so sorry your agapanthus blue is not blooming. They are one of the easiest things to grow. I wonder why that is? Maybe not enough sun? It’s always a mystery in the garden, isn’t it! If you have yours planted in full sun, may I suggest not enough water? I don’t know. I’m just trying to help because those are super easy to grow so there must be a reason anyway I appreciate you taking the time to stop by hope you enjoy the rest of your day.❤️🥰🌸Liz

I think your new room will be lovely with the archway entrance. I have a pale pink crepe myrtle which has yet to bloom this year- that's very late. (I'm in Zone 10A) Happy gardening, Liz! 🐦🐦🐦

Hi Liz - I've noticed the same thing, Agapanthus - Lily of the Nile sounds so much better:) do need some shade at least in my zone 9b practically zone 10 in the summer. One can never have enough water features in the garden - always a good opportunity to design a sweet little spot, surround it with plants or fancy rocks or art. I just got a new birdbath and I'm working on DIYing a third one - but the first try was not successful so it's back to the drawing board. We got a ton of rain, so that gave me an opportunity to work on the garden instead of spending my time watering. HAPPY GARDENING to you!

You turned me on to Lantana, which I had a hard time finding. Rather ironically, I found it my teeny tiny hometown at the same nursery we went to when I was a kid. Funny how things work out, sometimes.
Oh my goodness, Denise I am so excited for you. You finding that Lantana was totally meant to be. What color did you get? The cone in so many different colors I’m so excited. I can’t wait to hear more. Did you know that the Lantana is also a host plant to the Gilf Fritterly butterfly? Yay!!! ❤️👍🌸

Interesting! I'll have to research that butterfly, so I'll know it when I see it. It's one of my main goals to attract birds, bees, and butterflies to my yard. I've had a brown dragonfly hanging around the last few days that I've never seen that color before. We usually get the iridescent turquoise dragonflies. There's also been a swarm of Mason bees. Lots of Bumblebees in the roses and a few butterflies.
Good morning Denise , Your lantana sounds so pretty. The best way to attract birds and pollinators to your garden is to get a water feature. It doesn’t have to be expensive. You could get a cheap little birdbath at Walmart for under $30. And then put a little Solar in the center so the mosquitoes don’t lay eggs. When I added that cheap little water feature to my garden, it was a game changer. The hummingbirds and other birds started showing up more and more each year. Of course your plants are going to provide nectar and food for them, but the water feature is huge for them and such a blessing, especially when the weather gets hot. nice chatting with you. We here in Australia find mulching imperative in our long summers.

Hello and happy Sunday, no I’m embarrassed to say I don’t mulch too much but I know I need to. I always tell myself to mulch, but when it comes down to it, I never spend the money to buy mulch. Love the idea for your new corner. It will look very pretty. I have three Crepe Myrtle’s and I love them. Every year they look so terrible and I think they died. Then it warms up and they start blooming and are gorgeous. How are you going to power your fountain in the new corner? Is there enough sun for a solar fountain or will you run electricity out there? Looking forward to seeing how it turns out ❤
Good morning Ginger and thank you for your nice comment. I am very excited about the corner. If I put water in the fountain, it will definitely be powered by Solar. On top of the brick wall behind it is where I will put the solar panel it gets full sun there. However, I’m thinking about not putting water in it at all. Instead, I think I might fill it with succulents (with sone that trail down), I haven’t decided yet but that’s the plan. I am looking for discounted fountains that perhaps are broken. So it doesn’t matter if it doest work because filling them with plants, I don’t need the fountain to be water tight or perfect. If that makes sense. I’m glad your crêpe myrtle trees bloom for you and look beautiful in the end. They definitely are faithful and Hardy. Hope you have a wonderful Fourth of July and thank you again for stopping by.

Thanks Ginger. I’m going to different statuary stores and seeing if they have any fountains on discount. Maybe I can get a good price on one if I’m just going to use it for plants. I think having a fountain with water would be beautiful and relaxing, but at the same time, they are kind of a pain in the butt when it’s time to clean them. And then they also attract mosquito larvae, if for some reason, the water is not running, if that makes sense. So I’m definitely leaning more toward planting trailing succulents.
