    We tried the hornets nest and they didnt seem to care, I wish there were better ways to make them stay away. I have bought all the bug be gone plants and tried almost everything. I wish we could afford to dome our pool but that is so expensive.

    Love the tips as I was struggling with this as well. The fake hornets nest helps. I also mix up essential oils Mint, water and a little dish soap and spray it around my pool before we go in. This seems to help as I know they hate the smell of mint.

    Hey Matt, great tips! Ive recently taken on a pool and just managed to get it from green to blue. Hurray! One topic I think would be useful that I never knew when starting out was CYA (Cyanuric acid) I made the mistake of adding too much Stabilized chlorine at the start of the project and then having the issue of shock not doing the job because my CYA was way too high. So after lots of research and talking with my local pool store, I had to drain 50% of my water. This was one problem I could have done without. So I believe a video all about CYA would be really beneficial and help to save time and money. Thanks for all your help! Happy swimming!

    🏊‍♀I use a 5W 12-volt solar panel and float a Rule 1100 GPH 27DA standard submersible bilge pump with a 1.25-inch x 18-inch high tube to stirrup the water. It, not only creates a pleasant-sounding fountain sound it also keeps the bees and wasps out. I can still keep the flowers around the pool. During the cool season, I use the same bilge pump and solar panel to keep the pool water warm with my separate solar collector in the spa area.🏊‍♀

    best thing i found is a small amount of washing up liquid in the water when they try to land they cant and just drown ok it means your pool is out of bounds for half a day but then you have lots of dead wasps and few to none live ones scoop them out and it works for a few days then just add some more and your done but not much i have a 5m by 10m pool and i did 4 small squirts lasted about a week nothing works better

    Hi I noticed that when I fill my hot tub, a hour later the water has lowered to to the jet. Does this mean there is a leak in the jet?
    I tried to fill it a couple of time, and the water drops to the level every time?
    Thanks

    Will these also help with gnats, ants, moths? We have ants crawling all over our pool. We have a pest control company, we have bird baths. I just didn't realize how many gnats/ants like our pool! Thanks for these videos though. They've really helped this first time pool owner!

    • @SwimUniversity
      @SwimUniversity  Před 4 lety +2

      A birdbath or moving wet plants or pots away from your pool may help with gnats. Unfortunately, ants are a tougher challenge. You'll have to find the source of the ants (it could be under your pool liner or deck or in your pump motor) and handle them like you would any ant infestation.

    Thanks Matt for the article. I don't have flowers around my pool, I have my jets set up to create a "lazy river" effect, bees like the minerals (salt) in the pool water, alternative source is 2 birdbaths, and a kiddie pool set up at the far end of the property, food and drinks - so people have not been to the pool in 4 years now because of bees. Disrespectful, inconsiderate neighbor has 52 hives in less than 1/2 acre. This is where the Apiary community needs to step in and correct the Co-President of their East Central Illinois Bee Keepers Association. Kinda like white people stepping in to put an end to the racism. Once again thank you for your information.

    • @sagacious47
      @sagacious47 Před 4 lety +1

      Bees get hot and need water. The pool is a huge body of water compared to a bird bath. I seriously doubt bees will prefer a birdbath (where birds may eat them) over a pool. Keeping the pool covered helps with bees.

      @@sagacious47 They aren't my bees Eric. They shouldn't be my problem. If you would like to come and remove a 20x38 cover c'mon over. Oh hay on your way pick up a cover too. I haven't begun to address the health issues they cause, or their filth, or the dog bowls, or the humming bird feeders, or the laundry they crap all over. Would you like me to go on?

      @@MrBb716 I use a solar cover for my 20x40 pool. Yes it takes two people, but it only takes a few minutes to get in on. This is the first year i have used one and its dramatically cut down on the bugs in my pool. I dont know why you think a cover would make a pool dirtier. Mine is much cleaner and a bit warmer...though i have a pool heater so that doesn't matter too much except for electrical savings. If you have links or sources on pool covers causing health problems I'd love to learn

    • @MrBb716
      @MrBb716 Před 4 lety +2

      @@sagacious47 Sorry to have mislead you Eric. The pool cover does not cause health issues. I had a solar cover. Since I quit using it I have had no issues with algae. When to talk it off the water left cooks out the chlorine pretty quick whether you cover it or not (one should cover the solar cover) leaving the water free to grow algae. I live alone so I won't be waiting for anyone to come over and help remove it. Besides the pool is mostly just to look at any more. Company and my GF are allergic to bee stings. I'm tired of being stun while sleeping on my floatie. That really helps me become a grumpy old man. The house will be for sale soon so if you know anyone who would like to by a house with a useless pool. Let me know. One good thing about the pandemic. My buddy's kid isn't working, so I pay him to hang out and kill bees 25 cents as bee. Last labor Day 192 bees in 6 hours. By the way, none were taken from the skimmers. All live from the pool.

    I have a half dozen wasps of different kinds flying in from my neighbors to get water.
    More likely for making there mud nests.
    I tried traps with apple cider vinegar and sugar, but I just get flies.
    I just put up a fake wasp nest out of a paper bag. Still waiting.
    I tried to spray them with dishwasher liquid from a spray bottle, no good it only sprays 6 feet and a very narrow diameter.
    I'm going to try a Super Soaker with a larger distance and volume.
    At this point I'm just cleaning out the skimmers daily and doing cleaning but not going in to enjoy the pool.

    • @dan9002
      @dan9002 Před rokem

      Update: The Super Soakers work but I bought the FortNite ones on clearance.
      They work for a short time as they lack the volume and maybe go out to 10 feet.
      I get about 3 in 30 minutes as they go in the pool and I hit them again so they drown. No bees, just Yellow Jackets and Wasps. I'm still not sure on the Paper Bag Nest Decoy.
      What also helps is to cut down overhanging tree branches like oak that drops acorns in the pool and leaves.
      Shrubs may harbor wasp nests and rodents as well.
