Tribute to Notre Dame - Synchronized Skating Team Marigold IceUnity's 2020 Long Program

- Three years ago, in January 2020, I travelled to Helsinki Finland to film the synchronized skating team, Marigold IceUnity. Their free program was a tribute to the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, whose roof caught fire and partially collapsed the year before. The costume design by Ateljee Titta Kettunen, with its bright licks of flame, still evokes the emotions of that day in April. The Cathedral is currently on schedule to be fully restored in time for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Really, I got chills several times because they were moving so very close to each other at top speed. Very impressive.

Awesome! Nobody missed a step. They even had pairs do complicated lifts, all in sync. Skaters were extraordinary gracefully. They maintained their grace. Speed and synchronization at the end of a very end. That is beyond extraordinary! I hope we continue to see this group in the years to come!
Stunning. The synchronized teams are often quite lovely to see from the overhead position, but this really gives the illusion of being PART OF the team! A really special perspective. Thank you to everyone!

I’m crying…the music is emotional and the skating captures the emotion. Knowing this was created and filmed after the fire re-ignites the sadness of seeing the flames spire upward through the roof. Sad day. Thank you On Ice Perspective for filming and capturing this team of synchronized skaters. You are one brave man skating with camera equipment with close to twenty skaters on the ice dancing. Great filming without hitting any of the girls.
Everyone did an amazing job and I can see that this came from a well meaning and loving place in all of your hearts, but as an European this doesn't feel quiet right to me. Seeing Notre Dame in flames was highly traumatic for a lot of people, myself included because I've lived in Paris for a while. That's why the whole thing left a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth even though I know that no one had ill intentions. And maybe those feelings are hard to understand if you have never lived in Paris.
People process trauma through art; this team did the same. But this is a European team, btw.
