      @@gollymane5419 Congratulations!! Haha I feel that. There are options for single rooms, but it can be difficult for first-years to get them because they are prioritized for older students or students with medical/health needs. For the current school year 2020-2021, all of the dorm rooms were converted to single rooms due to the pandemic. With COVID, the housing website says "they are anticipating offering double rooms with a limited number of single rooms and some large triple rooms" for the 2021-2022 school year. So this could change depending on what classes look like next school year etc. For more information, check out the housing website here: housing.berkeley.edu/rates#reshall-contracts. Hope this helps!

    Hey, thanks so much for the video. I just got accepted and I’m leaning towards committing at this point. I’ve seen some of your other videos as well as some from other youtubers and I feel like this dorm is so much nicer I comparison to the others. Do freshmen live in these dorms or do you tend to only see 3rd, 4th years etc

    • @rachel_lin
      @rachel_lin  Před 4 lety +11

      Sahba Azarli congrats on Berkeley!! I would definitely say Blackwell is a nicer dorm because it just opened in 2018. Blackwell is open for first years as well as continuing students. It may be harder to get as a first year because the older students may be trying to live at Blackwell as well versus the other typically first year dorms like Unit 1, 2, 3, Foothill, and Clark Kerr are mostly all first year student housing. Hope this helps! 🤩🎊

    Hi! I am attending Cal in the fall and I was wondering how hard it is to get a Blackwell double with both of us (my roommate and I) not being non-Regents scholars?

    • @rachel_lin
      @rachel_lin  Před 4 lety +11

      Angela Li hey! The Cal Housing placement is all a lottery system so it’s really hard to say. Just make sure you follow the Housing form directions, turn it in on time, and both request each other on the form to help increase your chances! Also, it doesn’t matter if you submit the form now or at the deadline because they won’t start the lottery until after the deadline for first years. Hope this helps!

    It’s really nice, but I was wondering what it’s like outside if campus like places to study (coffee shops) ETC :)

    • @rachel_lin
      @rachel_lin  Před 4 lety +14

      lex Right next to campus there are a bunch of restaurants, chains like Chipotle or Subway, and then also really good non-chains serving Mexican, Thai food etc! Coffee shops closer to campus there’s Cafe Strada or Milano which are directly across. Further away, there’s a Philz Coffee at the Safeway that the bus goes to. Also some people will go to the Barnes and Nobles in Emeryville to study but that’s a bit further!

    Hey! I’m just wondering if there’s a kitchen in Blackwell anywhere? Maybe the first floor? Also this is a weird question but how do people get water in dorms? Is there a dispenser on the first floor or something like that?

    • @jenniferalatorre9888
      @jenniferalatorre9888 Před 3 lety +2

      Hey! Blackwell does not have a kitchen but on every floor there is a water dispenser near the laundry rooms.

    • @rachel_lin
      @rachel_lin  Před 3 lety

      Like someone else commented - no kitchen in Blackwell! There are water fill-up stations, or a lot of students get Brita water fillers, so they can keep this pitcher in their fridge and not have to walk down the hall every time they need water!

    I'm very very likely gonna be cal 2026 and I was just wondering, what are the chances of a freshman getting blackwell as their residence hall? Also is there a 2nd or 3rd nicest dorm hall that has higher chances for freshmen being assigned to it?

    • @rachel_lin
      @rachel_lin  Před 2 lety +1

      @@alwaysprocrastinating355 Congrats Always Procrastinating and Audrey! If you have housing priority, like Regents, then you would have a higher chance of getting Blackwell as a first year. Otherwise, getting Blackwell as a freshman can be difficult because of older students and other students like Regents/student athletes having priority... but you could get super lucky! I would say Unit 1 and Unit 2 are also popular and close to campus (compared to Unit 3 which is close to campus but less nice lol). Clark Kerr also has big rooms but it is further away from campus, so a longer walk to add to your daily schedule. So your housing preferences on your housing app really depend on what you are looking for! I recommend watching this video where I break down the different dorms at Berkeley, which may help you narrow down your options: czcams.com/video/dfZDs2c-Skc/video.html. Hope this helps!

    • @rachel_lin
      @rachel_lin  Před 4 lety

      Unknown or am I hi! From the Berkeley website, the freshman student profile unweighted GPA is 3.89-4.00 and the weighted GPA is 4.00-4.29. You can find out more here: admissions.berkeley.edu/student-profile. For the dorms, you do not need a certain gpa to live in a specific dorm. Hope this helps!

    • @rachel_lin
      @rachel_lin  Před 4 lety +2

      nis srini definitely join clubs and do activities in your high school that you actually enjoy participating in! Don’t just join groups because it’ll look good on your college application. Find something that you love doing and get involved in it, because it’s a lot easier to write a college admissions essay about something you love than something you don’t. Also, it’ll be easier for your passion and interest to shine through if you’re doing activities you’re passionate about. Good luck with college applications!!
