Drawing a teenage mutant ninja turtle for the first time in 20 years with some freeaaaakin paasssshion maaaang. I wanted to share a few tips on how I get that messy oily look and accept happy accidents. Stop trying to control everything man. Just let it go! - Zábava
Great job Trent!
For all those confused, Trent is illustrating the original incarnation of the turtles, when they all wore red. It was probably the only color they used and I think in the 80s cartoon series, they gave them different colors.
The first issues were all black and white I think, then they added the red later
Thank you for clearing it up for us, I was confused as well... it was the main reason I clicked on the video in fact. lol
Yeah, they added the color for toys and marketing.
5:34 I would've stopped there. Damn that red Shadow is nice
Yeah! That is super rad
Always a highlight for my week. Keep up the great work Trent!
This is what the viewers want, maybe even real time versions as well. so nice
You really captured the strength and power of a Teenage mutant ninja turtle in this awesome drawing.
Loving the work. You converted me from procreate to autodesk sketchbook. The brushes and options to work are just on a higher level. Thanks !!
God damn that looks good! I've just got into digital painting, struggling like hell at the moment but I'm gonna keep it up, watching your videos over and over to get inspiration and just learning the toolset. Your work truly is inspirational dude
A cornered turtle is more dangerous than a jackal! Great work man!
Please draw one piece for each turtle! :D Would LOVE to see more of these. Shredder would be awesome too!
Awesome work Trent, I always try to control every detail on my paintings, and sometimes I think I lose a lot of this naturalness and organic aspect, thanks for the tips an man this Leo, it was fantastic !!!
Great Job...always love the work

I actually did noticed the ugly leg but I’m no where near your skill but I got the passion
The dopest stuff right here. Aspire to draw like you!
I'mma draw with passion mayne!
This is the best art i've ever seen
you would make a great ninja turtle tbh
Oh how I wish you'd done the designs for the turtles in the new movies.... and also that they were written, directed, and produced by completely different people... D:
This one is Awsome..!! Thses Green Guys where my favorite growing up and you captured it Nicely..!! Love the Dynamic Pose.!!

I'd love to see you do a John Constantine drawing in this style.
I've been whaiting for this video since i saw it on your twitter.
I didn't realize that you illustrated creed! Awesome man I remember that, loved it. Always wondered about your influences. Sam Keith? Humberto Ramos? Thanks for the videos, you are great, keep it up

I found this art on imagine fx, there I learned about Trent. Love his art..
So awesome
I had that comic cross over!!
Subscribed xD really great videos on art :)

btw, love the editing in this.
Happy accident? You took that line from Bob Ross! May he rest in peace.
Any chance of you finishing the series? This painting grew on me over the course of the video.
There's no mistakes... just happy little accidents XD
Happy accidents are Bob Ross’s deal.
Hey Trent when are you going to continue with your Metal Gear playthrough. It was great experiencing that again but you just left us hangin' man
Thanks Daniel. The response was rather mixed. Some people just felt that I should do art on my channel. I'd like to finish it. It's... such a good game.
Righteous!
Awesome!!!cwhere can I get the high res painting? totally my new wallpaper
I love your videos dude, have you think on going on in twitch and show when you are drawing?
I can never schedule something like that. Most of my day is working on contracts.
Yes 💥✊🐢
I love it, as usual :P and telling us which brush you used was a really nice addition :)
Note: Leonardo's bandana is blue is it not? Or is there a funky piece of history I'm missing from the old comics.
Tatsumaki Nayate in the original comic incarnation they all wore red
Art of Figgs, thanks for letting everyone know about the original headband color. I had to cut that from the commentary because it went on too long, but I realize I shouldve clarified in the video.
Oh thanks for the info. I knew there was something I was missing (my note) as Trent would never do a mistake like that aha
The sketchbook pro link in the description doesn't seem to work.
Seal of aproval 10/10
What software are you using for your screen capture?
Kinda confused, the red ninja turtle didnt used to use some kind of duo knife or something like that?
EnvY they're called sais and they all wore red waaay back
I love this! Man I have so much to learn. I have a question. Are these brushes only compatible with the newest version of sketchbook pro? I have sketchbook pro 6.5 or 6.7. I want to buy them but I want to make sure first. And also your brushes for download on Photoshop are they compatible only with the newest version. I have an old version.
They work with the subscription version of Sketchbook Pro. I havent tested them on older versions.
Trent Kaniuga oh ok. I will try it to see if it works then. I don't have the suscription version. Bought the 6.5.
Its awesome but isnt leo the blue one?
in the original comics they were all red
In comics thay all have red bandanas.
its blue , anyway cowabunga!
Haha yeah ❤️
Yeah the colored bandanas didn't start until the cartoons, mainly because they thought kids needed an easier way to keep track of who is who.
Hey Trent. I'm working on my application for a concept art program. What are some do's and don't's regarding original characters? An original character would show ambition but it takes a lot longer. From a legal as well as a creative perspective, what are the boundaries? Could you put that rad ninja turtle in your portfolio?
I cover a lot of this topic in my portfolio workshop on www.gumroad.com/trentk
Just purchased and watched the tutorial provided and found it very helpful. Though for the program I'm trying for wants a scatter shot approach to show everything you can do in 12 images. How do you try to display your work cleanly and thematically like you did when they want such a random variety of subjects, mediums, genres, etc?
They want to see that you can do more than just one type of design. For this type of portfolio, I would try to do 3 pages of 4 different universes. A character design with breakdowns of gear, a location cutaway of a structure, and a page full of prop explorations that all tie together. Do this for each of 4 distinctly unique universes applying my methods of storytelling in your designs. If you have experience as a professional concept artist, you will learn that you need to be able to work within ANY universe type. They will expect you to fill in the blanks and create compelling worlds. If you feel like you're just "filling the page" then you might not actually want to be a concept artist. It should be easy and EXCITING for you to create 4 unique universes, then throw them away, and create 4 more! You should be wanting, no... CRAVING to do this with every minute of your time anyway. If you can't see yourself that way, then consider a different career path.
This is raph not leo cause leo has a blue head band and raph has a red
Amazing work Trent! :D
Has anyone tried the free version of sketchbook? I'm having a really hard time because I can't find or edit any shortcuts, and I dunno if it's because I'm not on the pro version yet :x
I know your comment is two years old, and I really hope you get an answer to your question, but I wanted to jump in and let you know Sketchbook Pro is completely free now. :D
cool
Do you have tips to improve my draw with little time ? ❤️
promise yourself you will draw every day for at least 30 minutes. Each week change to a new subject. So each day of the week you are improving on one thing. Faces, eyes, hands, poses, etc.
Please do more TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES drawings 🖒🐢🐢🐢🐢
Trent this piece is sick! where can I buy it and have it signed by you?
Nice idea
I don't offer any kind of print service yet. There's just not enough demand. Although it would be nice to put all of these illustrations together in a book someday.
TRENT! I need this piece! Let me know how I can get an art print for this Ninja turtle. It would look great in my studio. Make it happen good sir.
damn for how long are you in the business now? =)
Leonardo is blue home boy! Cool video though
wrong, try again. They were originally all red until the cartoons, so that kids could easily distinguish between them.
Whaou ! Really love this style
did Leo steal Duncan McCloud's sword?
yes.
its all great except the head- hard to tell which way he is looking- no visible mouth and looks like he has one eye (if he's facing the "camera" that is)
Artuurs Bunts Wot? He's looking forwards.
my autodesk is older, how can i have the same as u got?
sketchbook is free now. The brushes are his own custom ones that you can buy from his Gumroad page.
I was waiting for this drawing 😁 thanks!
Rename it please just as Raphael holding Leo's sword🤣
You don't know what you're talking about man! The original turtles all wore red headbands. Those are the real ninja turtles.
@@TrentKaniuga really 🤔.. if it is, thanks for the information man❤️ inspired by many of your art styles
leo wears a blue banner or mask. not red. why did mistake.
Rouhan GHULAM because in the original comics they all had it red.
So it's not confusing to differenciate them then.
ugh wrong...
had to comment a second time.... this shit is hot
Wait u drew Raphael instead of Leonardo
Thay is Leonardo. The original Leonardo
You drew Raphael with a sword, but very good flow and dynamic, really cool.
Voxavs he's drawing the original incarnation of the turtles when they all wore red
I grew up in the 90's.
It looks like Ralph but it cam out good
It's Leo in the old school comic style. Which you don't see often
Rede is Raphael, blue is Leonardo
only since the cartoons.
Your painting is nice but Leo's signature color is blue you used red
Not in the original. Read the other comments.
dud thats raph not leo
It's the original Leo
Noooo come on man you know leo is blue
Leonardo was a Blue bandana, if you made it red it's Rafael
Guillermo Gutiérrez De Velasco Schmidt was looking at that..
wrong... they were all red. The multicolored bandannas didn't show up until the cartoon, so that kids could easily distinguish between them and it's since stuck.
Leonardo wears blue, Rafael is the red one
Not in the original.
That is Raphael tho. But really amazing as always.
No it the original Leonardo
Amazing....but........Leonardo has the blue blindfold 😅
Tmnt originally wore red
