  • Mumbai is a city unlike many others, and contrary to what most think, the city is far more historic than many other parts of India. Today's video is about a walk in the past in Mumbai through three stories of the city. I've not covered the colonial history of the city as it's well covered otherwise, and have focused on stories which are often skipped over. These stories from our past will certainly give you a new perspective of the city.
    00:00 Introduction
    01:52 Chapter I: Mumbai in 16th Century
    06:06 Chapter II: Mumbai in 1 BCE to 6 CE
    12:44 Chapter III: Mumbai in 66 million BCE
    If you enjoyed the music, you can also get it from here: share.epidemicsound.com/sh4f92
    Of course this is just a slice of Mumbai's history and I really wanted to break the notion that Mumbai is just a new modern city. Many more stories coming up soon and I hope to continue to tell more and more stories of our cities, towns and villages, and bring to fore often forgotten or hidden-in-plainsight stories.
    Hope you'll enjoy the video - share it ahead with friends and family who might enjoy this historical exploration of Mumbai.

    Another point that connects Gilbert Hill story is unique temple of God Ghodapdeo (behind Rani baugh or Mumbai Zoo). Just to add...During this event of volcano eruption, drops of solidified lava were also formed. These lava drops are now smeared with sendhur and is venerated as God Ghodapdev. Another site that dates 66 Mn years back in Mumbai.

    Nice video Soddharth. Mumbai has beautiful Shiv temples from Babulnath to Kashi Vishweshwar in Matunga. All of them built before 1800. Starts with Babulnath, then Markandeshwar (beautiful temple next to Poonam chambers), Neelkantheshwar, Worli, Kedarnath Worli, and than Kashi Vishwanath Matunga...

    Hi Siddharta, happy to chance upon your vlogs today. I started with the Pune food tour. Couldn't help think, there is so much pav and bread in it, (which seems kind of like a colonial influence (?)) and no puranpoli! The thali deserved more detailing I felt. I've lived and studied in Mumbai for two years, and did not know anything you showed in this video, thank you for spreading this awareness. Did make it to Elephanta some 16 years later though. Glad to know MTDC is making efforts to put Gilbert Hill on the city tour circuit. Happy travels and more vlogging to you!

    Mumbai looks fascinating! It's funny that I I'm reading Salman Rushdie's Midnight's Children and there's a whole part where he explains some of the history of Mumbai! Super interesting. Thanks for sharing the city with the world.

    After Mahankali you should have visited the epitome of ancientness, the Kanheri caves. 1st century Buddhist caves. Lovely marvellous architecture. and you can easily get lost in 109 caves easily esp lovely in Monsoons.

    The Buddhist history feels incomplete though. There are 2 more cave systems that were a part of the Buddhist era - Kenheri & Mandapeswar.
    Would love to see you explore Kenheri caves someday. And if you ever feel like exploring the cave, I would love to accompany you

      Hello Krunal - I really can’t comment on the quote as it really depends on what you plan to do there. I took suggestions from Shahnawaz but eventually planned my trip while I was there. I do like to change the plans as I’m travelling based on what I hear and see, but not everyone likes travelling that way. Wishing you a great trip there 🙌🙌🙌

    Vlog is good. But there should be less talking and more info. Info is less and unnecessary talking is too much.

  • @suggie16
    @suggie16 Před 10 dny

    Amazing Videography (grips me to watch)...
    Too much filler talk (makes me wanna skip 100 times)..
    Eg: "excessive build up, ye secret hai, tab bataunga, jab bataunga, bohot exciting, inspirational, aarti miss kr gya etc etc".
    Bro please be clear. If you say it's a story about Mumbai, we are here to watch, don't make a personal vlog.. not cool! There was literally 10% info & 90% gup gup.... If you want to make a vlog on your time in Mumbai or your take on Mumbai, start with that (caption it likewise), totally fine & you'll get that audience. But don't claim A and take a ride for Z.
    Please take it constructively. Feedback was not meant to discourage good work.

    • @SiddharthaJoshiFilms
      @SiddharthaJoshiFilms  Před 10 dny

      I appreciate the feedback. And yes you are right, it’s a personal vlog like all the videos on my channel - I don’t pretend to make anything else. But I guess for someone new here, that may not be obvious…
