  • Michael Redmond 9p, hosted by the AGA E-Journal's Chris Garlock, review the 14th game of the amazing AlphaGo vs. AlphaGo selfplay games. Click here for the sgf file: www.usgo.org/ne...
“In this game we’re going to see a double kakari against a star point, a first for this series of games,” says Michael Redmond 9p. “In the Master vs. human series back in January, Master would play away when the opponent played a kakari against a star point, sometimes. Now we’ll get to see how Master plays this with White, and it has a special move. Its a new joseki that actually make s some sense, so it’s going to be interesting.”
The Game 14 video is produced by Michael Wanek and Andrew Jackson. The sgf file was created by Redmond, with editing and transcription by Garlock and Myron Souris.

I know just enough to be awed by the opening and commentary regarding the upper left corner. Thanks ever so much, Michael.

Will there ever be any discussion of AlphaGo Zero and it's strangely non-orthodox moves? I absolutely love this series of videos and would hate to see it disrupted, but at some point it would be very interesting to hear some of Michael Redmond's thoughts and reactions to it's games. I'd be particularly interested in any analysis of the AG Master vs AG Zero games, and how they compare stylistically. In those games is there a unifying reason AG Zero seems to consistently pull ahead? Thanks so much for doing these videos, at this point they are a fixture of the English speaking Go community.

You're all asking about Alpha go Zero while Alpha go Master is already beyond comprehension and enough to improve haha.

Michael seems to follow the diagonal across the board to check the ladders. But since the stars points and the tengen are on the same diagonal, isn't it better just to check the ladder on the nearest start point? For example at 15:28 A is diagonal to D14, 2 steps below D16, the star point. So it is also diagonal to Q2. No need to follow the diagonal across the board, as Michael seems to at 14:52.

Great series and discussion. The link to the sgf file seems to be broken.

Hi, thanks again! I have a question for Michael and a comment for the video producers. Michael, you have spent a considerable amount of time studying the AlphaGo and Master games, and I have observed the discussion evolve significantly from the early analyses of AG versus human players, until now where we have seen enough patterns emerge that make many of the nuances of AG's style much more understandable. So, my question is, are there situations or moves from earlier videos in this series, where you disagreed with or were confused by, that after further study of these later games, you have changed your opinion about? Thank you. Also, to the producers: Maybe it's just me, but the EQ of Chris's voice is a little harsh because of all the mid-range frequencies. Is it possible to balance that differently? Nothing against Chris, btw! Your questions are always really great and helpful. Thanks again!

Yes. Whenever Chris shouts WOW! it is as if the volume is severely boosted. My chair disintegrates and I fall on the floor (not really - heh heh).

A question: could we conclude from the AG vs AG results that the komi needs to be adjusted? It seems white wins a little too often, or not?

Sorry, but it still gives an error "Failed - Forbidden". Does it have some kind of region settings? Maybe you can set it to all public or region free.
