I tell you when this first aired on Toonami I ran off the bus to press record on the VCR. My mom was doing my sister hair watching Truma life in the ER I grabbed the remote turn to this. Let me tell you a house with 6 children who made fun of me watching this show on this day THEY WERE GLUED TO THE TV ! IT WAS A VERY SPECIAL AND HYPED MOMENT EVER!. My Mom said COME ON GOHAN!!!!! 😃😃😃😃

I always tear up when I watch this. It hits more as a adult, now that I have a son of my own. The most incredible scene I’ve seen in anime.
Last time any of the other characters besides Goku were useful.
Yes I loved it as a kid but it means so much more. Just so meaningful and impactful. Hearing Chichi, Piccolo, Dende worry so much for our hero brings a tear every time.

Vegeta theme will always be peak in anime
He overpowered cell with one arm that's how powerful he was at this point in the show.

The cell saga is what really cemented dbz into the realm of legendary vs just "great". The frieza and cell saga are great in their own right, but the cell saga took so much from those two sagas and ties it well with a ribbon to cap it off.
The anime upped it's quality for this saga too, but I think especially the US release things are so much tighter. The script translation, the voice acting, the Bruce falconer soundtrack - the cell saga resonates with the US fanbase so much because of how well it all comes together.
I appreciate seeing an adult watch it all for the first time and the tears were awesome. As a kid, I was obviously hyped af seeing it happen, but as an adult there's so much more you get about the character development. Gohan's transformation is epic in its own right, but him walking with that Kamehameha with the weight of the world is just the epitome of heroic.
As an adult, seeing Vegeta’s character development throughout Z is incredible
One fun fact about this: The last 2-3 episodes actually had a decent amount of padding for the sake of runtime, as the time between Cell reappearing, Vegeta attacking him in a blind rage, and the epic Kamehameha clash were only a chapter or two in the Manga. Specifically, Tien, Yamcha, Krillin, and Piccolo didn’t get involved in the fight, and only witnessed it. Vegeta, however, was the only one to intervene how and when he did, giving Gohan the window of opportunity to overtake Cell and kill him. One common misconception is that without Vegeta, Gohan wouldn’t have been able to win. BUT in hindsight, it wasn’t that Gohan didn’t have the strength, rather, it was the timing needed to catch Cell off guard. All Vegeta did was - invaluably - expedite Gohan’s victory. Without him, it simply would have taken longer.
Also, to answer a question, I think Vegeta’s attack was his Big Bang.
i feel like that last part was speculation, yea gohan always had the power, but without the others (vegeta in particular) he never would've released it, because not only was he was repressing it for multiple reasons but also (as u said) vegeta opened a window for gohan to deliver the final blow.
Aaah yeah! That walking through the Kamehameha is so bloody EPIC! And I love that Alex was tearing up there. That's the true perfection in this, not Cell. xD

This episode has it all boys. Animation quality, soundtrack, bars, emotion, energy. Echoing what was already said, this stamped legendary status for DBZ. Sheeee!

This really shows how strong Gohan really is if this was just half his power.
If he was at full power with both arms the ginyu theme song would've played within seconds.
That walk is what we like to call famous “saiyan” walk that’s when you know you are dead and the saiyan is serious
The dialogue in this episode is fantastic, especially the lines from the Z fighters when they're trying to help Gohan.
Totally feel you for the tears Alex. Still whenever I watch this it brings a tear to my eye and goosebumps all over lol. That Vegeta theme when he interferes and that final push from Gohan will forever be my favorite DBZ moment. It was definitely fun going through my favorite arc with you guys and so glad I found your channel! Keep up the awesome content!!

No matter how much times I watch this episode I am always teary ... Goosebumps even today! Lets be honest as a kid everyone tried to help Gohan! It's refreshing seeing someone experiencing it for the first time!

This is my favorite Dragon Ball episode ever. The climatic beam clash between Cell and Gohan with the iconic Father-Son Kamehameha is one of the most epic moments in this show and I’m really happy to see you guys appreciate it as much as I do. This was truly the best way to finish a villain, so much better executed than Freeza’s defeat. The fact that Gohan was the one to destroy Cell and finally proved to be a hero is just so satisfying. Everything led up to this moment.
But we can’t forget he wouldn’t have achieved this if he hadn’t gotten the help of Goku who sacrificed his life and then motivated him with his words. So we technically have two heroes after all.
Honestly, Cell was the greatest villain and this was the greatest arc of DBZ. What a perfect ending to an amazing arc!
Another cool thing about all of this. Chi Chi wouldn't have imagined her half Human and half Saiyin son would grow up to be this powerful. 💪🏼💪🏼 Such great pride for her as a Human mother.

I vividly remember first seeing this when the theme kicked in and Cell started to disintegrate that this was the end for Cell. I’ll never forget that feeling that he was finally defeated

My dad was a martial artist and had passed away not too long before I saw this episode as a kid, so seeing the father-and-son kamehameha was very powerful for me back then.

This fight is like turning a good guy into a bad boy when the bullies pushes the nice guys to much as they are the scariest people to mess with when you do so.
More proof ssj2 gohan is broken. Ssj2 gohan with less than half his power and only one arm AND holding back due to fear of blowing up the planet > Super perfect cell

This is one of my top 5 episodes ever of DBZ. The action, the emotion, the build up to it. Everyone stepping up to the plate to help...even Yamcha. Krillin talking about how they changed him was so great!
the underrated moment of all the z fighters helping out is key. It shows how they are good at heart, even vegeta, he saw his son die and though his sketchy past makes him question his motives, he is the best character for always being by their side, apart from his whole majin vegeta part lol

The single greatest episode of any Tv series ever.... man, this is the fountain where the river of manly tears flows from. Bruce and the boys brought out all the bangers for this ep and the animation is on point just simply epic.
Vegeta came in clutch too, swallowed his pride & practicly interfiered in anothers fight which must of felt very un noble of him.

This was supposed to be the end of Gokus story. Gohan was intended to be the protagonist from then on. A passing of the torch.

Great job for getting this far can't even mention how much this episode means to me it's like a true moment in the anime that explains why we love this form of anime and story the father son bond is so important and makes a huge impact in my own life been here since day 1 and ready for the rest
The ending where Tien Yamcha Piccolo and Krillin helps was the most intense.

What Vegeta fired at cell was the ("big bang" blast) syke just looked itr up, he apparently used some attack iver never heard about either called the "galick blazer" to attack cell.
Also we need gohan to kill covid now like this 14:37 haha. But dude i'm 32 watched this the mid 90s and have never noticed how the style for this episode changed, it looks more like GT with the weird square noses and rounded out edges, almost like they had there up and coming c class artist in the crew do this episode.

Bro this brings back SO MANY past emotions man!! THIS right here made me as a kid feel INVISIBLE!!! There was NOTHING like it back then!! This was like a HUGE empowering moment for ALL KIDS and young adults to witness a relatable Gohan as a TEEN kicking the ass of a huge villain like Cell!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼 Legendary and OP moment man!! I would have liked to see a beam struggle between the Old Broly and Super Perfect Cell, Broly’s Omega Blaster against Cell’s Solar Kamehameha and also Broly’s Omega Blaster against Teen Gohan’s Ssj2 Father-son Kamehameha with both arms.
Now think about this when the episode actually aired it was WAY ahead of its time by decades
