I have also been worried the Zevin book won’t live up to the hype but now you’ve made me want to give it a try.

Looks like I might be giving T&T&T another chance someday. You described the book very book I wanted to experience. You've almost sold me on several other books there I might never have even considered.

I kept asking other readers if I’d like Tomorrow Tomorrow and Tomorrow even tho I haven’t no interest in gaming. They all said yes. So I read it last year. I agree with you. It’s a fantastic read!

I haven't read any of these, though you did remind me I want to get a copy of Antique Hunters Guide to Murder

“One three is also three twos”! Great way of describing the way Zevin created the relationships between the three characters.

I am making my way through the backlog of your videos I missed while on vacation in June, and this one was jammed packed with so many take-a-ways it’s hard to collate them! Over the Dickens’ mega read-a-long you’ve mentioned how your ranking of his novels has slightly altered higher or lower. I wonder if that’s because we change as we age and view things differently? I’m not sure at all if that has any merit or not. Regardless, I enjoy your videos a lot! Thanks, Katie.

I think it must make a difference, and I also think sometimes rereading and getting to know a book better can change your thoughts on it as well.

I do follow your channel and occasionally comment, and I know you love 'Our Mutual Friend', and they have been doing a play with songs by P J Harvey at the National called 'London Tide' which is based on the novel. I watched it yesterday, it only focuses on the two central plots, but I really enjoyed it. It finishes next week though.

    • @katiejlumsden
      @katiejlumsden  Před měsícem

Yes, I saw London Tide, and I thought it was amazing! I thought it was really the right choice to just take two plot threads and do them justice, rather than trying to fit everything in.

Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow was my top book of 2023 and I still think about it regularly! So so good. Really connected with the characters even if I disliked them at times too, haha. Loved everything about it and so glad you did too! 😊

I'm very much looking forward to hear your deep review of A Tale of Two Cities. It was my favourite read of 2023 and my favourite Dickens so far (I've read only four of his novels).
I'm also curious about The Grey Woman, I'm planning on reading it before the end of this month 🙂

Your are spot on about Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow. It was a marvellous read. I have finally finished Little Dorrit and now don’t quite know what to do with myself. It was very long but so enthralling and such a wonderful story it has left me a bit stunned. I hope I have time to read it again soon (I am quite old 🤓) . You did have a good month. Thanks 🤗

Hello Katie... May was a crazy hectic month for me especially at work. I teach 2nd grade in a dual language class. Was SUPER EXHAUSTED. OMG!!
    BUT...
I just had to share what I just randomly found at Barnes & Nobles & had to wait a bit to get it but I got it yesterday. 😂🩷
It is a new author for me, Judith Flanders. She wrote "The Invention of Murder- How the Victorians Revelled in Death and Detection and Created Modern Crime.
I can't wait to read & see what her research & all brings to light. I guess she researches & writes about the Victorian era. 🙂
    Have a great day! 🥰

That was interesting about your Antiques experience. I would disagree with you about A Tale Of Two Cities in that I believe it to be a brilliant novel and in fact having read Dickens' Pictures from Italy in which he journeyed through France I have a greater appreciation of both this work and Little Dorrit.

I too just finished reading Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow. I didn’t know what to expect, a friend told me to read it and said it was about friendship and love. Which it is. But written in such an amazing way. I saw myself and many friendships, one in particular in this book and it was like a deep dive into my psyche. One of the best book I have ever read and I am very surprised that that is the case. I will reread endlessly, I think there is a lot in those pages. I even thought Zoe and Dov were great characters and had a solid purpose in the story. Wonderful.

Wow. Great review of T&T&T. I haven't read it because I, too, was very skeptical of the hype and gaming setting. Surprised you liked it so much. Onto the TBR. I'm 1/3 thru 1500 page, A Suitable Boy, and think you'd like it: family and politics in 1950s India. It's joked that the only woman one of the young men has ever loved is Jane Austen.

@@katiejlumsden on page 1144 of A Suitable Boy. Loving the family parts, recommend skipping political parts for quicker read. It's compared to Dickens, Trollope, and Austen. The "long-suffering" mother is hilarious and will stick with me.

In May I felt so mentally and psychically exhausted, that I treated myself to a month of romance reading. The best book of the month
The Mars House by Natasha Pulley
    Thank you for recommending it.
