    I enjoyed sense and sensibility way more on a re read. I finally read what Kitty did next and loved that

    I’m also very much enjoying A Lady’s Guide to Scandal. I agree that all the characters all well developed. I love Margaret!

    Thank you for the views of London and the National Gallery, especially the Impressionism gallery. If you ever make it to Chicago, the Art Institute of Chicago has a fantastic collection of Impressionism. I've finished a re-read of S&S; I'd forgotten all the witty lines. Also really loved Jane Austen's Wardrobe by Hilary Davidson, which links excerpts from JA's letters to different types of Regency clothing. Beautiful, accessible & scholarly at the same time! Good luck with Book #2 and please send some of that Labour Wave to this side of the pond...we need it desperately.

    Thank you Katie - very interesting as always 😊.
    I'm loving JA July sooo much!
    I've watched P&P & Zombies- hilarious! ; Sense and Sensibility; P&P 1995; Northanger Abbey, 1985; Emma (Gywneth Paltrow one).
    I've read A Lady's Guide to Scandal and A Lady's Guide to Fortune Hunting. I enjoyed them very much. After reading The Regency Revolution I like them even more. I've also read P&P and NA. I've listened to Mansfield Park and Mrs Wickham on audio.
    I'm re watching The Life and Works of Jane Austen on Amazon Prime. It's brilliant. So well researched. As you can probably guess I am a little obsessed with JA July!! 📚

    Seeing you walking through the paintings at the National Gallery reminded me of a letter Jane Austen wrote to her sister in May 1813 while Jane was in London with her brother. They visited a number of exhibitions of paintings
    "Henry and I went to the exhibition in Spring Gardens. It is not thought a good collection, but I was very well pleased, particularly (pray tell Fanny) with a small portrait of Mrs. Bingley, excessively like her. I went in hopes of seeing one of her sister, but there was no Mrs. Darcy. Perhaps I may find her in the great exhibition, which we shall go to if we have time
    ...
    Mrs. Bingley's is exactly like herself,-size, shaped face, features and sweetness; there never was a greater likeness. She is dressed in a white gown, with green ornaments, which convinces me of what I had always supposed, that green was a favorite color with her. I dare say Mrs. D. will be in yellow."
    It's a shame that the impressionists that caught your eye were a little late for Mrs Bingley's (Jane Bennet as was) portrait.
    Jane Austen didn't find a picture of Mrs Darcy (Lizzie Bennett) in yellow. She speculated that "Mr D. prizes any picture of her too much to like it should be exposed to the public eye"

    Lovely! I'm having a wonderful Jane Austen July so far--reading among other things Rory Muir's new study of love and marriage, which I especially recommend. I can't wait to see your publication vlog! Congratulations!

    I think I now have all of Austen's books read by Juliet Stevenson. She knocks it out of the park. I listened to Persuasion twice this last week. It's my latest listen.

    I finished Miniatures & Moral by Peter Leithart, The Perils of Lady Catherine de Bourgh by Claudia Gray, Sense & Sensibility, and Northanger Abbey. I'm currently working on The Other Bennet Sister, Sanditon, Praying w/Jane (Bible devotional based on Austen's written prayers), and Jane Eyre by C. Bronte (a couple of decades off to really be considered a contemporary, but it's been years since I read it & now felt like a good time)

    I enjoy the variety in the vlogs that mingle life events with reading. The National Gallery must be a stunning place to visit. I noticed you used a cane; is your knee bothering you? I like the impressionist style of art too; it’s sort of like recalling old dreams. Katie, thanks for being so faithful to your calling and sharing it with us fortunate viewers!

      @katiejlumsden  Před měsícem

      The National Gallery is amazing! Yes, I use a walking stick occasionally - I don't really use one in everyday life, but if my knee injury is really bad or if I'm going to some kind of event where I know I'll be standing up for more than half an hour or so, then I tend to use one. I have a fold-up walking stick, so I tend to keep it in my bag just in case I need it.

    I hope you feel well now! I think your book comes out this week, right?!! I preordered it and can't wait. Your first one was incredible!
    I love a book hug! Such a great way to word that!

    Hi
    Thanks for the great vlog. It looks like A Lady's Guide to Scandal is the second in a series. Should I read #1 first or does it not matter?

    • @katiejlumsden
      @katiejlumsden  Před měsícem

      Nah, they're by the same author and set in the same time period, but they're not a series - there's no connection between them.

    I have always found if you are willing to watch TV documentaries on Art history you will gain a lot, especially if the programme is as entertainingly presented as someone like Waldemar Januszczak.

    I am having a lovely Jane Austen July so far. I have read Love and Marriage in the Age of Jane Austen (highly recommend), Jane Austen (Hourly History biography), Jane Austen and the Price of Happiness (also very good), Persuasion, and Sense and Sensibility (once I started I had to finish.) Oh, and also The New Jane Austen, which was a bit dry. I paused the video and bought A Lady's Guide to Scandal, which I am looking forward to. It was also lovely to see a bit of the National Gallery.
