I saw that burning technique on the TV show fixer upper with Chip and Joanna Gaines. They did it on a house boat. We bought a new washer in 2017 and it was acting up alresdy. I am also blessed with a husband that is very macanical inclined. Ive never had to call a repair man. Our refrigerator of 2004 was acting up over the summer, he fixed it. God is so good..Matt is so handy. Its a blessing for sure 😊

I love watching Matt figure out and make stuff. It reminds me of my husband. He was a plumber and made so many things for me, from a candle stand of copper to my outdoor chairs and a free standing 2 person hammock out of plastic pipe. He has been gone now for over a decade and I miss him every day. But I have reminders of the things he made for me all over the house and yard.😊

Tipper, I don’t know about you, but I have always loved watching a man work. My daddy was a hard working man, like yours. There really wasn’t anything much he couldn’t do, make or fix. I spent my childhood watching him work on so many weekend projects. Because of that, I grew up knowing you can pretty much do anything if you set your mind to it. It’s just fascinating how they can assess a situation and know exactly what it takes to do the project. Congratulations Matt on a great job. Those beds will last forever. 😊❤😊

My daughter and son in law have went thru 4 brand new washing machines in 5 years. They would have them fixed and they would teR up again. Finally his Mama went up to a furniture store with them and told the people that they wanted a machine like they used in the laundry mats, an industrial one. They did their best to talk them out of it. His Mama said ya'll either bring some out here so we cam choose one or we will go somewhere else. They sold them one and it's been going strong for going on 3 years. They make appliances to not last long nowadays on purpose. They do have washer and dryers that you can buy that's guaranteed for life but they are really expensive and who knows how they really work. Good job Matt.

The new washers they're making these days are the ones that are supposed to save you money on your water bill.....THEY ARE AWFUL !!! It's all you can get anymore !!! WARNING !!! The washing cycle is soooo long. It takes you almost an hour to wash a pair of jeans. These washers have so so many gears. As far as saving money on water, I CANT tell !!! If you've got an off centered load, all you can do is turn it off & start all over again.
If you want to save money on your water bill, a front loader washer will do that. They don't use as much water, & they get your clothes clean. It's the way they wash.
The worst problem with these new washers is the washing cycle is long !!!

It’s their business model to make machines that don’t last to keep us buying them every 5 years. The old machines lasted 20 years and weren’t profitable. The new machines may save $ on a water bill, but if you’re spending a few grand every 5 years on a new set then it’s a loss. Besides, how much is it really saving in water?

When you told the story of that new washing machine I had to laugh, not at you but at myself. Maybe 15 years ago I was faced with the job of finding a new washer. The weather was terrible so I thought I would just go on the web and buy one from Home Depot. I read about one after another and looked at all the reviews until I decided on one. They brought it out the next day. I had stayed out of the way and let the men connect it with my husband overseeing what they were doing. When they left I went back to do my first load just to check it out. When I lifted the lid I was shocked. There was no agitator in the middle! I called my husband to come see. When he came in the room I said, "Look, they've brought me a defective washer. It doesn't have an agitator. How could they not know it was broken?" He said he didn't understand because he had watch one of the men lift the lid and pull out the connector hoses that we bought extra. Surely he saw that. I went right to the phone and called Home Depot to tell them to come back and get the washer and bring me one that isn't defective. The man on the other end of the line asked me what I was talking about and I told him there's not agitator in the washer, they had forgotten to put one in it. At that point I could here him cover the phone and laugh real hard. When he regained his composure he went on to tell me that all the new washers were like that and tried to convince me that it would wash my clothes just as good if not better than one with an agitator. Well, I'm pretty hard headed so I had to run a load just to see for myself. I loaded the washer up and then turned on the water. That's after having to spend an hour reading the book that came with it just to find out how to set it for a load. When the water stopped and the washer started to wash I opened up the lid and looked in. There wasn't half a tub of water in there! No matter what I did I couldn't get it to fill up but just half way. Back to the phone I went. And lucky or maybe not, I got the same fellow I had talked to earlier. This time he told me it wouldn't fill up any more than the level I had gotten. I told him that wasn't enough water in there to wash more than 3 wash cloths and maybe a towel. Dead silence...I asked if he was still on the line. He was, he had just covered the phone so he could have another good laugh. I'm sure he stopped laughing when I told him I wanted someone to come and get the washer because I didn't want it. I then asked him which washer he had that had an agitator. He told me he didn't think they even sold one of the old ones like that anymore but he would call around to the other stores to see if maybe they had one. He later called me back and said he had found one but it would have to be brought from a different store. To make a long story short, I got my washer and believe it or not it was almost $200.00 cheaper. That washer is still chugging along 15 years later. I really dread the day when this one dies. So far my husband has been able to fix it when there's been a problem. He's a lot like your Matt. He'll figure on something until he gets it figured out and back to working.

My daughter has a washer like the one you described! I was at her house one day when laundry was going and since I found one of my grandson’s socks to add, I started to raise the lid and add it and I found the lid was locked! So I learned this happens every time. No opening the lid! Also, the water level was very low! The machine would start and stop, the contents would shake! If there was only a dark load left to do and you found a white sock or something else white or a light shade, it was out of the question until next laundry day! Also, there was NO agitator! Just shakes and spins, starts and stops! It was an expensive machine, too! I love my Sears Kenmore set! They are 23 years old and the washer had a minor repair one time but the dryer never has needed anything!

Great job on the bed renovation Matt! It looks great.🎉. The washing machines are garbage. I hate mine. I told my husband this summer I’m setting up my wash tubs and wringer and only use the worthless washer for its spin cycle. It won’t agitate to clean and it won’t let you put more water in. I won’t buy another new washer. I’ll use my tubs and wash boards before that happens. It’s still cold enough here my husband is wearing his long johns.😂. TeresaSue.

    That's funny about the monkey.
Our family had a caught fish.
It was frozen solid and passed from member to member every Christmas.
Each one had to keep it frozen till the next Christmas and figure out a clever way to pass it on.
That fish was like 80 years old.
It showed up one year for my mom in a potted Christmas cactus, just it's tail sticking out.
My Aunt found it in a new set of sheets, another in a can of coffee.
Now all 11 sisters and brothers have passed on.
So my one Aunt by marriage must have it cause she is the only one still alive.
It's funny how they'd all run it to the freezer right away for the next reciever to get when it was their turn.
    Thanks for the monkey story!❤

Hi all. Watch your program all the time. Also purchased your cookbook. Most excellent. Watching Matt using scissors for cutting the roofing material for your garden beds. I use a handheld circular saw with an old blade turned around backwards. Cuts metal easily. Works great and is easier and faster cutting as well as more accurate cutting. P.S. My name is Bob and I live on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. Also like listening to your daughter’s music. Take care all.

Tipper I seen something similar to this Matt cutting the metal for new beds. When having to use the sharp edge tins they used pool noodles from doller tree. Just cut down the sides and stuck on. Safe fix.

I learned something. I had no idea anyone would make a washing machine without an agitator. It’s been many moons since we’ve had to buy a washing machine thankfully. But they’re not made like they used to be made. The raised bed looks great.

On Matt and the washing machine, he just described the old wringer type washers from my childhood. Two rollers on top that you squeezed the water out by running each piece of clothing through individually. Then you hung them out on the clothes line. The clothes sure smelled fresh from blowing in the wind. The planter looks great and should last for years. At 68 sometimes I just want to roll off the chair instead of struggling to get up too. 😂

Watching your video makes me feel like I’m visiting with you. Both my grandfathers were farmers, and even at 81, I can remember the days I followed one around as a young, very nosy little girl, enjoying the little chores he gave me. He often hooked up the horse or mule tor a “slide” for me a big ride. He had a nice creek where I was taken to wade. All the fruit trees and vines were heaven for me. Thanks for bringing back all the memories!😊❤️

The washing machine Matt described is pretty much what the old 1930s machines did. My grandmother had that kind in the 30s which lived on the porch (seen in pictures), where the drain hose run into a little ditch that ran into a weed patch. I'm afraid you would miss the spin cycle though, having to ring out the laundry with a ringer. I've got a Kenmore Series 70 washing machine that is 25 years old and still going strong. If you are looking, look into Kenmore machines.

The burned-wood, I never knew about and glad to learn! I love it, would love it in my yard. There's a story to it, which makes it special. Matt always makes me laugh.
