  • This recording was live from December's Denver BitDevs meetup on 12/7/2023 from Matt Hill, who is the CEO of Start9.
The bulk of this talk is about the importance of sovereignty in computing, the risks of using very larger servers, and why you should run your own server if you want to increase your online privacy and don't have to ask for permission.

Having listened to Matt speak on this topic a number of times, and having used Start9 for a few months now, I am convinced that this is the future of personal sovereign computing. Most likely people will be orange-pilled then start9 pilled as a consequence... as the number of bitcoiners grows, so will the number of start9 users.

I listened to this until it got to someone asking a question that I couldn't hear. My question is:- So I'm running this server and want to be on Twitter or Facebook. I want to send a normal Email. I want to look at my Revolut app to check my balance. Can I still use these apps or do I need completely different ones?

LFG! It feels like this is what will make an open source smart phone possible. We can finally get away from Apple, Google, Microsoft, etc. ✊

37:30: What if they charge you a monthly subscription AND ALSO sell your data, just like before? I imagine that's the plan.
