    I'm glad sansa didn't tell him, that's why ramsay's trap got destroyed from the outside by the Knights of the Vale. if she had told jon, he would have made a different plan and Ramsay would have been able to either match Jon's army in the field or planned for a siege. the element of surprise was necessary here and Sansa didn't trust anyone with the plan and carried it herself. also she didn't trust Baelish to actually show up, not to mention Jon disregarded her opinion about battle at every point, what guarantee was there he would have listened to her if she told him?

    • @entinakicks
      @entinakicks Před měsícem

      I actually liked Sansa, but this is the episode that soured me on her a bit. I wished they wrote her "win" here more intelligently instead of having her make a senseless decision in order to force an artificial victory. Honestly, a lot of people died needlessly and Jon almost died because Sansa didn't tell him about the Knights of the Vale. I'm not saying Jon didn't make a dumb decision but it felt in character for him. Sansa knows how smaller mistakes her father, mother, and brother made resulted in their deaths, so her withholding information from Jon on a matter of life and death was silly if not unbelievable to me. For her to then simultaneously berate him for not asking her thoughts in such a sanctimonious manner was irksome. I do think her final scene with Ramsey was fitting and showed growth.
      I'm not in any way hating on you for liking Sansa here. Opinions are opinions. I'm just sharing my own because it may add some insight as to why some people take issue with her character.

    • @KJPomftet
      @KJPomftet Před 25 dny

      The issue is her letting Jon go into battle against Ramsey with his army and letting him get seconds away from complete destruction….then showing up to save them. She could have just told Jon the Vale was coming and saved a ton of soldiers. If it was so Ramsey would come out and attack, then she still should have told them they were coming cause he could have planned better and save more soldiers. She just kept everything a secret, let all those soldiers die, then took the credit for the win and no blame for all the Wildlings and Northerners who died needlessly

    • @gunkulator1
      @gunkulator1 Před 25 dny

      @@KJPomftet Well, no. The issue is Jon acting foolishly and charging in without thinking. That is the one and only reason his army loses too many men. Jon's idiocy. Note he would have acted the same reckless way even if he did know about the knights of the Vale. Jon ignores all the plans he made with Davos and Tormund and comes close to dooming his entire army. Sansa was worried that Jon would be a poor leader so she does not tell him. Sansa was right.

Because Sansa didn't want to be honest and tell him she was closer to Lightfinger than she let on & tell Jon she sent a raven to see if he would come Jon could have waited a day vs just go into battle because no one else was coming to help (and I think he would have worked with Littlefinger even if he sold Sansa to Ramsey if it meant increasingly the chances of saving Rickon exec a little. He would deal with him after).

    • @gunkulator1
      @gunkulator1 Před měsícem

      The entire purpose of his small army was to lure Ramsey's army out of his superior defensive position behind the walls of Winterfell. Only then could the knights of the Vale sweep through and defeat Ramsey. LF's army wins the battle. Jon's army is just the decoy. If LF and Jon join forces first, Ramsey stays put and there's no battle at all, or at least no battle LF and Jon can win since they have no means to besiege Winterfell. The winning plan depended on Jon being weak to convince Ramsey that he had an easy victory at hand. Jon is just a pawn in the plan and that's why Sansa doesn't tell him about LF.

    I think Melisandre lacked self-doubt before, but she screwed up with Stannis (though the Night's Watch needed Stannis to be in the North to save them from Mance's army, so the Lord works in mysterious ways) and now she finally admits to knowing what she doesn't know. She does, however, seem to realize/believe that some of her visions that she assigned to Stannis are now applicable to Jon.
    Jon riding into the arrows is like swimming into waves at the ocean. If you try to go back, the waves will wipe you out, but if you dash forward, you can swim through the curl and the injurious breaks will crash behind you. He effed up trying to save his baby brother (totally understandable), but he would have been killed if he attempted to turn around and ride back. He rode under the arc of the arrows instead of remaining within range of of the points. He was illogical not giving up on his brother, but it was logical to go forward once he had exposed himself.

    Random: I was watching battle of the bastards and my brother was playing whatever on his ps4 (I’m in the part before the battle Jon is trying to reach his brother, Ramsey is shooting arrows) and all I hear from my right side is “HARRY RUN HARRY” in a British accent and I’m like “bro completely wrong movies, characters, and genre” 😂😂

      How would they know? What moves faster than a horse in this world? You could say a raven but they are very unreliable plus a) you can simply shoot them down and b) it's easy to send your own ravens with false information.
      Did you also complain about 1) Robb's18000 men outflanking Tywin's in season 1 - yes Robb intercepted a scout but we're to believe the Lannister have only one scout and their whole battle plan hinges on his information? or 2) Tywin's army moving across the most populated part of Westeros and arriving at King's Landing without anyone knowing in season 2 or 3) 100,000 slow moving wildings surprising the Night's Watch in season 4 even though the NW has men called rangers whose only job it is to scout for wildlings. or 4) Stannis' large mounted army landing north of the wall and surprising Mance even though the wildlings have wargs looking through eagles' eyes who would have seen them many miles away.

    As much as I love Caraxes, Drogon is one mean motherfucker. That whole sequence in Mareen is pretty much perfect. Despite the obvious stuff in the episode ( pretty badass battle, great dialogues, great acting ) I really like the little things. The symbolism when Jon picks up that shield. It's a shield from Bear Island protecting him when he is walking up to Ramsey. Very satisfying ending to that guy, props to that actor he did an outstanding job with this role, absolutely comparable to Goffrey. Iconic from beginning to end. Loved how Sansa was starting to turn away when the hounds got started on Ramsey but she changes her mind, makes herself watch it, making sure the last thing she sees is Ramsey getting eaten by his own dogs.
    Overall really good stuff it deserves the high ratings, one of the highlights of the second half of the show.

      Sansa doesn't tell Jon because Jon's army is just the decoy to lure Ramsey out from behind the walls of Winterfell. While it’s true they Jon was a complete fool, technically if Ramsey had known that they mode more men (the knights of the vale) he probably wouldn’t have come out to fight in the field, and would make Jon and forces lay siege to winterfell

    • @gunkulator1
      @gunkulator1 Před měsícem

      Jon has no ability to besiege Winterfell. The mounted cavalry from the Vale would also be useless for this. And Winter really is coming almost immediately, meaning any siege is doomed to fail anyway.

      @@gunkulator1 so even though it was annoying that Sansa denied the help from the vale until last minute causing their forces to arrive after the battle was well on its way, it actually was the best outcome because it gave Ramsey a false sense of security and caused him to choose to have a battle in the field instead of keeping his forces within the castle and forcing Jon to either lay siege or to not even fight at all because and siege would be really the only option unless they tried to starve them out which would be a hopeless endeavor

    • @gunkulator1
      @gunkulator1 Před měsícem

      @@yomamma.ismydaddy216 And siege in the North is impossible even in high Summer. The land is too barren to support a besieging army of any useful size and the distances are too great for supply lines from the South. Cersei explains this to Joffrey in Season 1. It's why the North had never been taken and held before. The King in the North only bent the knee one time and that was to the Targaryens because of their dragons.

    • @entinakicks
      @entinakicks Před 29 dny

      @@gunkulator1yes but for those same reasons, there is no way Ramsey or Jon, would not have known an army as big as the Knights of the Vale were approaching Winterfell. Particularly since they had been encamped at Moat Cailin earlier. That's a long march with stretches of barren lands. Ramsey was well informed of Stannis' army who had the benefit of bypassing that march by using ships, but now no scouts were able to, at bare minimum, warn Ramsey to retreat because a huge cavalry was approaching the battlefield? It's silly.
      Not to say I don't enjoy the episode. It's shot beautifully. But I think it's okay to enjoy it and acknowledge that there was a lack of logic in the writing of the war tactics that exceeds reasonable suspension of disbelief made for the sake of creating high stakes tension and a Sansa saves the day moment. It is what it is.

      Let me help you out: Sansa lies to Jon by not telling him about LF and his army and then goads him into attacking Ramsey anyway. At the parley Ramsey gives an accurate account of Jon's troops and their makeup and confidently predicts victory. Clearly he has good intelligence about Jon from his spies. This has the effect Sansa wants which is getting Ramsey to abandon his superior defensive position behind the walls of Winterfell the next morning. Now that he's exposed, Sansa and LF spring their trap, which is the cavalry charge from the knights of the Vale. None of this works if Jon waits for the knights to arrive first because Ramsey then just stays put.

    • @jeffbachman2949

      @gunkulator1 she also wasn't sure even if he would come. It was a bit of a hail Mary and to be fair to her she apologized the next episode to Jon for not telling him and says she doesn't trust Littlefinger

    • @gunkulator1
      @gunkulator1 Před měsícem

      @@jeffbachman2949 Well, it's Littlefinger so you can't ne sure of anything when it's him but it was still a good calculated bet on the part of Sansa. First off, LF makes the long journey to meet with Sansa early in the season. Why do that at all unless he needed to plan something with her? If LF is really backing Rasmey, he doesn't have to do anything. Just wait around for Ramsey's larger army to march on Castle Black and overwhelm the wildings. Second, we know LF took a massive risk when he plotted to get rid of Joffrey. The Tyrells could have simply turned him in and then he's done. LF's reasoning for getting rid of Joffrey is that he's too sadistic and chaotic for LF to deal with for his ambitious plans. Ramsey represents the exact same problem and therefore also needs to be disposed of. Third, LF believes he has groomed Sansa much like he has groomed Robin Arryn. So he devises a plan that not only gets rid of Ramsey, but also has a high chance of getting rid of both Rickon and Jon, the last two real contenders to rule the North outside of Sansa. With Ramsey, Rickon and Jon gone, LF's protege, Sansa, gets to rule the North and LF is right there for a convenient marriage to Sansa too. So it's a pretty good bet LF acts to help Sansa because it is very much in his interest to do so.

      Yes. This is Sansa's key moment where she shows she is willing to play the game for real. And that means a willingness to sacrifice. Not just Rickon, but also the wildling army and even Jon. The alternative is rule by Ramsey which is infinitely worse. Neither Ned nor Jon is capable of this, but Sansa is. Or she is now.
      What I find telling is that this is pretty much the same thing Robb Stark did in Season 1 and no one complains about it. Robb knowingly sacrifices 2000 north men to achieve a victory. He says a couple sad words about it and then that's the end of it. It's every bit as ruthless as this.

      @gunkulator1 Před měsícem +2

      They did plan a trap that saved people. The entire population of the north is saved from the sadistic rule of Ramsey. I'm not sure how Jon knowing could have helped because if he keeps retreating and refusing to engage, Ramsey just marches his men back behind the walls of Winterfell and wins by default. Ramsey only engages because he believes he has a quick and easy victory. Make it too difficult and he'll just stay put where he is.
