      The t9 uses a rare spec of usb, 3.2 gen 2x2 to achieve 20gbps which allows it to do 2GB/s transfer. The problem is that no apple devices and almost now windows devices support this spec of usb. Meaning in 99% of cases the drive is stuck at 10gbps regular usb 3 speeds meaning there is no performance benefit over the samsung t7.
      Same problem with the wd black and the crucial x10 pro in the video where he never had it go above 1GB/s even though both drives advertise 2GB/s.

I want the ssd for keeping photos and I'm considering to start my art journey respectively to start filming videos for CZcams and Instagram. I will take 2TB crucial but my question is X6 or X8? Is X6 too old model and is gonna do the job? or to take X8? The price difference 153$ (X6) and 176$ (X8). (for some people it's not that much but in the country that I live in our currency if $ is 1:1 it's like 50$) I wish I could take the X9 and x10 pro but they're pretty expensive. 4:13 I'm not sure about the wd black one but I know a lot of people buy the samsung t9 and get confused regarding the speed being not as advertised.
    The issue is the t9 uses a rare usb spec (3.2 gen 2x2. It is 20gbps and despite thunderbolt being 40, it is not backwards compatible with the 20gbps spec so when plugged into thunderbolt it goes back to 10gbps) to achieve this 2GB/s speed which is the same one the wd black one advertises so I assume it also uses that.
    All apple devices and almost all windows devices do not support this usb spec and so it defaults back to 10gbps instead of the advertised 20gbps.
    The x10 pro you're fond of also uses this spec so I'm not sure it's worth paying almost twice the money over the x9 pro for you or anyone when you aren't accessing the only performance difference.
    Given how much work you put into this video (liked and subscribed!) I'm surprised you didn't know this already. I was also shocked when I found out.

    I could sure use some help with an 8TB Seagate Drive/Hub that I use for data storage from my Linux Desktop. I have about 6 Seagate drives, but this one apparently will go to "sleep" if it sits idle for 10 minutes or so. When you go to access the drive after sleep, it will stall ... and take several minutes to open the window you are trying to access ... this is often accompanied with a File System corruption. I have to run an FSCK ... multiple times per day. Forums haven't been helpful ... trying to adjust that "sleep" time interval is unsuccessful. This has been an ongoing issue with my Seagate External Drives ... spinners or SSD. I get them for a reasonable price, and I wouldn't mind spending more for a drive if I actually get more ... especially for reliability.

    That's fascinating that you had issues with recording iphone prores to the t7 shield. Even full fat prores bitrate does not approach the transfer speed of a regular sata ssd, let alone the 1GB/s of these usb 3.2 nvme drives.
    So that you had an issue is really strange. I wonder why.

    Could you test another t7 with the iphone for prores? There has to be something wrong with your unit. Prores does not really require much bandwidth. It could in theory be recorded onto an sd card. 4k 60 prores HQ is only 800Mb/s so around 100 megabytes per second write.
    There is not a single SSD on the market that cannot do 100MB/s write.

      I wonder if it’s because deleted items are still in the recycle bin. Sometimes you may have to empty the bin for the items to actually free up space. But if that’s not the case, I;d say the Crucial X9 Pro or X10 Pro. They’ve been the most solid for me

    Just an FYI: Regarding the Crucial X10 Pro.. I am not tech savvy at all, but I heard that the X10 is a Gen 2.2, and evidently Macs are not compatible with dual lane speeds. The X9's on the other hand, are. So, for me, it keeps coming up all over the place that the Crucial X9 Pro is the (best affordable) one to get for my iMac. This video finally sealed it for me.

      @definingslawek4731 Před 24 dny +1

      Don't waste your money on an x10 pro or ANY ssd that uses the very rare usb 3.2 gen 2x2 spec. No macbook and almost no windows computer supports this kind of usb meaning that an x10 pro for most users will act just like an x9 pro, and for example a samsung t9 will act like a samsung t7.
      I wasn't aware of the kingston one you mentioned but I checked and it also uses the 3.2. gen 2x2 spec.
      Just don't pay more for a 20gbps ssd over a 10gbps ssd when (unless you have a computer with a 20gbps port) it will be a 10gbps ssd for you.

      @@AlexGTech yeah i can get that one for 451 euro now, and that's about 56 euro for 1 TB ssd.
      And it's normally around 70 or 80 per TB for ssds
      But don't know the speeds or cables and connections, or usb C or A etc.
      And i hear about buying naked 8tb ssd and buying a case for it so can plug it in hsing usb.
      Just looking for tyr prices what's worth it etc.
      And well the reliability will it die after 3 years.
      Because the t5 evo 8tb only has 3 years warranty as opposed to other ssd which all have 5 years from what i found.
      Hope you find the time to make a video.
      Because normal hdds, are still 20 to 25 euro per TB much cheaper.
      So I am waging my options if the price per tb is worth it for the speed / storage.
      Also the sound. Cuz hdds are loud, portable hdds are quiter but how loud are ssd compared to that?

    The sad part is 1:38 .. I just came from a video a CZcamsr saying SandDisk is failing cheering up Samsung T7s, and turns out 1:38 T7 failed on u ..
    I thought these were so reliable, and the comments in that video has 100s of users with failed SSDs.
    If I had bought it myself and it fails on me, I'd be like "universe punishes me again" but nah, those expensive SSDs keep failing; it's their job to keep data!
    I'm thinking if in the future I become richer I'd just buy a mid-range Windows laptop and stack it up to 8TB-10TB of SSD, no Apps, that'd be the safest option as a 500eur/500$ will already come up with 1TB SSD, then another 500$ to install whatever maximum the laptop can hold 4TB/10TB.

    • @AlexGTech
      @AlexGTech  Před měsícem

      Yes... the T7 Shield was really good for over a year, but after that time, it started to fail and eventually not even mount anymore... So be careful with that one. I think SSDs are the way forward, still - imagine losing that laptop with all the data in it. But the SSDs need to be reliable really. What I do for my important data is to have a copy I keep on smaller SSDs like the Crucial ones and a long-term copy on my NAS. For personal things like family photos and documents, I have a copy in Google as well.

    Here's the thing, benchmarks tests are only one important factor. The real important factor is will the drive die in a day, a month, three months? If you can't answer this, speed tests don't mean anything to me. Sandisk didn't get back to you because legal told them not to. They don't care about some youtuber even if you had 10 million subs. Crucial has tons of failure reviews as well as Samsung. So what do we do? Are internal SSD's in cases the answer for portability? After watching this I'd say go for the nuclear option Sabrent stick in a case. If you're getting 2 years out of them that's a good start. Having a backup Samsung for another Samsung is the same price as getting a pricey stick to begin with.
