It is so sad that we are losing all these wonderful old places, because lets face it - nothing will ever be built like it again. Today's modern cinema's are nothing more than steel framed sheds. I loved it when you were standing up on the upper tier, with all the seats still in place, looking down on the stage. Can't help but think back to the days when those seats would have been full, with people like Morecambe and Wise performing on stage. Just distant ghosts of the past now. That place must have hosted some famous acts in it's time. Whatever they do with the place now, nothing will beat what this place was in the past.
Hey Matt loving the explores lately with Jordon. You’ve really calmed him down and you’ve developed a good friendship and love the banter between you two, adds good humour. Anyways keep up with the excellent vids and look forward to the next instalment. 👍
Another amazing explore. People will look back at the demolition of these buildings just like we look back at the destruction of the post war years where thousands of beautiful buildings were lost because they were no longer valued, seen as old fashioned and expensive to upkeep. Perhaps a warning from history that what stands in their place has not stood the test of time. The buildings like this that do survive should be highly cherished even more so now. It would appear that society hasn't learnt much from past mistakes.
Classy place in its time. Great video! Thanks Matthew!
The UK Premiere of Wayne's World 2 was at the ABC in Liverpool. Mike Myers wanted it there because his parents are from Liverpool.
Went to that cinema so many times in the late 80's and early 90's. Before the adverts came on the screen they used to play the old style cinema organ music through the speakers. It was a fantastic place.
definitely one of your top 10 glad you got in this amazing place the design and architecture is exceptional
Matt your cinema explores had me captivated!!! So much history is being torn down superb !✌️👍
You are a mountain of knowledge when it comes to this, such a fantastic place, I just hope them bits of camera lenses go to a museum, but I sadly doubt it.. amazing
Aw this looks like its going to be good. great to see The legend that is Jordan with you..
The bulb i think Jordan was pointing at 46.19 or so was for a clock that was there one time Now from what i recall with this place was the original projector room was up in the roof and the Ross projectors had a very steep raked position When the cinema was tripled May of 1982 A new projection room was built into the rear of screen one The restriction of the small proscenium was overcome by the installation of a new wide screen frame brought forward of the original stage and splay walls, thus forming a new curtained proscenium. I would think that everything behind was just left after that and forgotten about Its always nice to see the ABC gold drapes as they are getting rare now to see in buildings in one piece
From Matt of Finders Beepers History Seekers to Matt of the Secret Vault. Good explore with good memories for some people who've visited there. Good to see Jordan, he's a comic for sure. Xx
When the cinema was tippled, the local council insisted that the stage and festoon curtains, (by the way there were two sets of festoon curtains) had to remain in place and not to be destroyed so that they could still be seen as they were deemed of historical interest. This is why the stage is still there. Strange that ABC removed the screen frame.
Blimey Mathew..!
Amazing video. Wish my old mate was still alive to enjoy what he called 'the faded grandeur of a golden era'.
For the Conversion to 3 cinemas, there was a floor built from the front circle to just in front of the original proscenium, and that is where the new Screen Frame and Tab track were installed, together with Gold Festoon tabs (Curtains). ABC built a projection room at the back of the circle. A Philips DP 75 was installed for 35/70mm projection. 70mm film was shown, but I don't really know how many films they actually showed in 70mm.
Last film I watched there was total recall around 1990 1991 something like that can't remember cheers guys for this great work
Brilliant explore - so much history in these old cinemas.
Stunning old building.
This was amazing, absolutely loved the interior that was really special. Popping to Lime Street on Thursday so will have a look at the exterior. I won't be climbing in wearing my shirt and trousers in broad daylight though 😂😂😂
